Look, do you want to know the easiest way to convert MKV files into whatever file type you want?

It is so simple, just open the MKV in windows live movie maker, then save it as a wmv file, from there you can use any basic converter to make it whatever file format you want.

I know, I felt stupid after spending an entire day on the internet trying to figure this out when it was this simple.

hello...this program awesome unfortunely the restricted special mode are super slow to convert...><! and the normal mode seems not worked because when i converting mkv files to avi,its finished at 28%-50%?i knw this normal mode surely are fast converting but its always finshed at 29%-50%...nvr completed til 100%...can someone tell me how to get rid of the normal mode plz...and one more question...how to copy the orginal subtitle in mkv into newly avi?ty...this program awesome!<3

Any Video Converter does a better quality job making AVI files look closer to MKV without making the file size really big. The reason I convert MKVs to AVI files is basically because I can watch videos on my Xbox 360 that's streamed over from my cpu and it doesn't read MKV files.

Well, what I do not like is how unprofessional this looks. Most programs you choose your Codec plus it WON'T have music.... It's weird and honestly, I'd like it better if it was a little more advance but yet basic where the user can simply drag and drop, etc.

Personally, I find MKV files to be smaller, and better quality. But a better program to use for converting MKV to AVI would be Wondershare Video Converter. Providing you can obtain a free copy of it from somewhere.

FINALLY...run time error 70. cussed about 70 times till this worked for me... and go!!!! Windows 7 right click on the program icon and run troubleshoot compatibility ....

FOR RUN-TIME ERROR 70 FIX, if you have windows 7 you right click it and the click on run as administrator. That seemed to help me.

If you get the Run-Time error 70, just close the program, right-click on it and Run as Administrator. Works perfectly.

When you convert the .Mkv to.Avi, does the subtitle stay on the video? I've been trying to convert Mkv files to DVD, but for some reason the creator program doesn't identify any subtitles within the file?

You have to right click the program and do "run as Administrator"

It should be mentioned that the quality gets worse when doing this reencoding (encoding should IMO only be done with the original DVD or Blu-ray)... this reecoding to AVI is only useful for compatibility-reasons, but even then I'd rather buy a mediaplayer hardware that can handle h264-MKV (even up to 1080p)... like a Popcorn Hour, or a HTPC.

BTW !!! the fps if u have a h264 encoded file you should choose the no skip option (left side) just because that was recoomended :] i tried 23/29 fps it was choppy so no skip is best for h264

The AVI formats will. But you need an update on your X-box 360 it will try and play then it will say if you want to update it. and just do it. Need to be signed into xbox live tho mkv's can't be played at all with or without the update

that would have been helpful. unfortunatly, to convert 1 1080p 30 min show was going to take 6 hours. less then 1 frame per second. i guess i'll just put linux on the ps3 and play the files on there rather then streaming.

no, you should get lil program called media info to see which fps resolution bitrate and so to see what the file have then you should choose the same options that the mkv has. thats atleast how i do it... and if you want HD on youtube you should see.. eh a video! with derek or something, search it on YT!
