Sorry, guys, it was a balloon. I've got the same one on cam in thunder Bay ontario over lake superior when we were sailing down to Duluth. And we actually got to talk to the people who "sent it off" from Grand Portage Minn. They bought it at an extreme novelty store in Minneapolis the day before. And it's exactly a "space shift" looking balloon. They said they had all kinds, shapes and sizes. Sorry, to "burst" your bubble. No pun intended.
