when i plug in my archos on my vista computer it does not show up as a disk drive or any of the other drives, it shows up under portable devices and then i can't find it when the page comes up asking me where to save it

any suggestions of how to fix it?

Use a diffrent Internet Browser, and on ur Archos, Menu> Settings> System, choose at Use Preference as what ur Archos wants to connect.

one more thing, what type of archos are you getting, because they are no longer improving the 605 versions of the archos, and the archos 5 version is faster, stronger, and better, and they are shipping the Android OS on the Archos series which should allow it to be more like a umpc/tablet or computer. look it up.

That is not windows xp, it is a windows xp portal made by psp programers, they are web pages that are saved with information on them, made to run like a program/ operating system. almost like a flash game, but if you really want to get an open source or different OS on your archos, than get qt (Qtopia) running on it, they have instructions online, but be careful not to brick your device.

PS. Nokia is coming out with Maemo 5

so a new version of the nokia n810 should be coming out, with a super fast processor and high res camera, they should be a great battle between the archos and nokias devices using the same ARM cortex processors.

He's lying, that sort of hacking takes months, and the Archos isin't capeable of running that Ram and processor intensive stuff. But their is a Archos 605 WiFi Linux hack, its on CNET look it up ;)

pspwxp sucks! i used it on my first psp, and was terribly dissapointed. im deffinetly not putting that on my archos 5. we need to know how to install real windows xp or vista (the archos 5 deffinetly has the capabilities to run vista )

I have recently downloaded about 8 programs that I am going to try on the archos to see if it can give it some extra features, or at least make it run more like a real Operating system, instead of some locked up encrypted Linux embedded piece of metal. What version of pspwxp are you using, and if all fails, just put the folder on your archos and open up the index files on your archos, every game and app has its own index, this version on the video is not the lattest. and the new version runs in full screen mode, this one on the video does not. For get installing it, and just open the index files, they run like widgets, but better and faster. The updated version of pspwxp runs just like a real OS, and no errors. it even has a cool control panel

Uh, this doesn't run XP or vista. It just gives you a lookalike interface. Although it is cool that you got it running on an Archos. This suggests the PSP and Archos are very compatible.

Put the new version of pspwxp on the archos, I tried it the apps are so much better, and the games look better + has sound, and work better. It even has an app that allows you to make phone calls but i havn't tried it yet. It has more Games and apps and they work so much better in the lattest version of pspwxp. TRY IT ON YOUR ARCHOS
