Top hatted Commendatore? WTH? I did not know the Commendatore was an English lord- The director needs to also be executed the same way as Don Giovanni is in this scene for this crime!
@EliasCalabretta1 The problem is in order to produce the sound that these talented singers do, they can't turn their heads or bend their necks without negatively affecting the sound. At the same time, the sound travels in the directions they are facing, which keeps turning their entire bodies from being a viable option either.
is there another song that keeps the tone of the first minute of this song?....oh man the first min of this song is ridiculous...the rest is good but i rather enjoy that first bit.
In "Amadeus" they showed how an 80s Hollywood director would imagine "Don Giovanni" being produced in 1787, but it will definitely have no resemblance whatsoever of how the real thing was... I most certainly suppose there will NOT have been a Commendatore crashing through a wall or dancers as infernal spirits during the chorus in the end... That is historically completely inaccurate, albeit visually stunning, of course.
O 100% agree with you. And visualy none stand a chance against amadeus, When it comes to the sound I think it is the best. Come on John Tomlinson as the commendatore
Richard Stilwell as Don Giovanni
Williard White as Leporello.
Richard did the best Giovanni death scream out there.
And no one even touches john tomlinsons commendatore vocals
Could you post some more scenes from this production of Don Giovanni please? I would really like to see more of D'Arcangelo's interpretation of Leoporello. I think he is really good :)
I'm going to be honest, I like the set design a lot, it's very brooding and atmospheric, but I honestly think the Mr. Peanut design (lols to DiVeronica) needs to go. I'm thinking a 19th century Cuirassier uniform to stay in character?
Did the Cuirassiers have high headgear? I suppose the bass who performs the Commendatore here is visibly shorter than Mr Alvarez and something had to be done to prevent him looking ridiculous...
where is this performed? and when? does anyone know that? There is another scene (ah taci injusto core + deh vieni alla finestra) available on youtube with Alvarez and d'Arcangelo, but I'm not shure wether it's the same performance...
Zeffirelli's met is impressive...the other entrance that is good is the peter sellars production, wich is odd, but very popular among fans and specialists...
Exactly as Mozart intended? Probably not. We don't have the set designs from the original 1780s productions anymore. The only Mozart opera to which the original set designs survive is Die Zauberflote (and I'm not sure if all of the sets exist)
This is from probably the best overall production available on dvd...there's many to choose from, but all the singers here, the acting, the staging, and everything else is first rate...

His lines in this scene are the following:
- Oh master, we are all doomed.
- I feel like being feverish, and I can't hold my limbs from shaking (La terzana di avere mi sembra e le membra fermar più non so)
- I'm sorry, he doesn't have time.
- Say you won't!
cadmo7 2 years ago
Sorry, I forgot the last part:
- The fire of doom surrounds him,
Its fiery glare confounds him,
What sounds, what sights of terror,
Oh, I shall die, oh, I shall die of fright!

Absolutely NOT!
In "Amadeus" they showed how an 80s Hollywood director would imagine "Don Giovanni" being produced in 1787, but it will definitely have no resemblance whatsoever of how the real thing was...
