I have tried both and ended up with Lasermax: The CT (Crimson Trace) messed with my comfortable grip, the laser was much more diffused, and it is way too delicate. The Lasermax can be dropped, submerged in water, and go through the torture test firepowerTV put it through. They even put explosives next to it and ran it over with a dump truck. Would love to see the CT do that. If a drop of water gets on it it's done. Hope it doesn't rain while you are carrying a Crimson Trace.
this is a good video.i have owned both crimson trace and laser max lasers i prefer crimson trace because my laser max lens would get covered in gun powder after about 25 rounds and get worse while shooting and i would have to wipe off the lens every now and then.you have to clean the crimson trace also but very rarely.
Not being blind or stupid doesn't mean you have knowledge about how light can be focused or diffused. I have neither laser at this point and am still deciding which to buy. From what I can see in this demo, I am leaning toward the lasermax. The beam is far better focused which translates into a brighter beam over distance. I know something about these things, it's my job.
Give me the CT any day of the week. I have various brands, the CT wins for the results you get. And sorry but the light travels straight, you can't change that.
@GeorgiaShooter- I agree. Lasers have their place especially in a short distance defensive setting where the time it takes to make a two handed grip, and achieve proper sight picture can be the difference between life or death. Shooting a CT equipped pistol from the 1/4 draw is so easy it's like cheating. My wife's 1911 is CT lasergrip equipped for this reason. My A.R will have a green viridian for the same. YMMV but thats my take.
Those are obviously NOT both 5mW. The CS one is definitely brighter and more powerfull. And tbh, I don't really see how collimation can be SO BAD that it will affect your accuracy with a HANDGUN at any effective distance for the handgun. The important thing here is zeroing in, as far as accuracy goes. Not the dot size. The dot size is gonna be small enough , even if you'd put a $5 laser pointer on your gun, trust me.
@mrkiky They are BOTH 5mW lasers. However the strobe speed is faster than the video camera frame rate. In real life your eye would see the same brightness. Have used both and the only thing obvious is that the CT laser looks more like a spot at distance while the Lasermax remains a nice pin point. Not making a difference really, but the Lasermax being tougher and waterproof as well as keeping a comfortable grip made me choose the Lasermax and stop believing the Crimson Trace hype.
Why are people trying to say "test it at a longer range!"? These are defensive handguns. The vast majority of handguns are used in ranges of less than 7 yards (21 feet).
Any laser that is not activated by the grip is less than ideal, especially in a hostile situation. you want to be able to have a normal grip on the weapon and be able to activate the laser without moving any of your fingers.
the other big advantage of the crimson trace is that the laser may be covered by the trigger finger when it is naturally on the frame of the gun, so that the laser may be on and hidden if desired. A huge advantage when hiding your position and instantly ready to fire.
I don' t know about this test. I have both on two different Glocks, and at 25 feet both seem the same, both do the job, and both work just fine. Dead batteries? or dying batteries sure would affect performance?
Laser Sights are not a gimmick they really work, and make iron sights like a model T car. Lasers rock. Well worth the money and effort. Crimson Trace does not have Laser Grips for any Glock Gen 4 guns at this time, because frame size is different than Gen 3 Glocks, That sucks. Gen 4 rocks
This test is bogus. I have a CT on my glock 19, and its much brighter than your demonstration and I love it! You can see it on my page I have a video.
The Lasermax on my S&W.38spl Airweight is a lot brighter than the one you've got. Time for a new battery. I can bust pop cans at ten yards with no problem with the Lasermax. Any closer than that you shouldn't need a laser to hit a perp and any farther you probably shouldn't be shooting.
@GoldenRing1989 Well, they're not using the $1 diodes, and they've also got to ruggedize an adjustable mount and battery holder to stand up to a recoiling handgun. You can get cheaper weapon lasers, but they might not last. But if you think you can do better, by all means, please go for it!
@geniusiknowit Don't know where you got that idea. An internal guide rod laser doesn't need to adjustable. A laser that is off to the side would need to be adjusted for different ranges. There is no support to your opinion of LaserMax, but quite a bit of evidence to disprove your comment.
@GoldenRing1989 a boat load of engineering, getting a laser to me able to take the acceleration and deceleration of recoil in a split second is just one reason, plus many many more engineering related problems!! just my 2 cents
i dont know shit about this lasers but i believe that the one on the pistol only looks dimer/smaller because is pulsing, but both are the same brightness.
I have a CT on my ruger and an arma laser on my beretta. at 35 feet the CT is much brighter and doesn't diffuse as much as the arma laser. I don't have a lasermax yet but I am about to buy one. I will be happy if it truly is brither and more pinpoint than the CT. But I'm not going to be fair about this the lasermax is going to be green! I know my armalaser from half a block isn't pinpoint. I'd rather have pinpoint than bright! Both are fine for short distances of say 100 ft. want bright go green
Those batteries are Dead bro Lasermax blows crimsontrace out of the water but don't get me wrong I've shot allot of weapons with laser sights before these are the brand names that I have used on my Weapons and other Friends weapons, Lasermax,Crimsontrace,Viridian,Glock...........Insight,NCSTAR,Laserlyte,Beamshot,UTG,Firefield,Crossman,Center Point,Streamlight TLR-2s.there are allot of good lasers out there but between these too laser brands that ,you have shown Lasermax Wins for quality and
the laser max is clearly dead......if the they had good charge would be flashing bright and furiously, when they go dead you get what you see here.lasermax is clearly the better choice if you change the battery and try again.
Dude, you are retarded. It proves in the video that the batteries are low on the lasermax. Have you seen them in real life? The Lasermax is more visible because it's flashing. I don't work for lasemax or crimson trace. I'm just no a fanboy or an idiot like you. Now leave me alone for crying out loud. Aren't you tired of looking like an idiot. Both are the same brightness. It's proven. Give it up. You must work for Crimson Trace or something.
Sorry comparing lasers through video is not a good idea. A good laser should have a small point of impact and should not show up well on video. It'ls like trying to take video (or even a still photo from most cameras) of the night sky. Resolution and contrast isn't high enough to pick up stars or other light bodies. What the human eye with a complex brain running it and what a camera "sees" are two vastly different things.
You can say whatever you want, they are both producing the same brightness in the visible portion of the spectrum. The lasermax has an IR filter so you are completely wrong. Give it up, already. 5mw at 635nm which is completely visible. This is a case of low batteries. The blinking of the lasermax actually makes it easier to find, can be shut off, and there is a green version which is much more visible than any crimson trace. Goodbye, fanboy.
I have used both and guess what? THEY BOTH WORK! It is all about personal preference. I persoanlly like the CT grips on my 1911 and the LM on the Glock Style pistols (Polymer frame) with non-removable grips.
these laser sights just give the public something to play with and does NOT teach them proper gun handling or sight and trigger usage. that commercial with the granny blasting away with her installed crimson trace laser is a joke. lasers have their place. but tricking people into thinking that an intruder is going to crap his pants and run instead of blasting away at the light source are in for a world of hurt.
@stallion44107 I disagree. It is all about the *intended use*. Having a laser pointed at them is much more of a deterrent than NOT having one. Also, in low light situations where you need to shoot without getting a good sight picture and lining up your sights (which you will NOT have time to do) the laser is going to be a big help.
@stallion44107 Laser grips are not intended to teach someone how to get a proper sight picture. They are intended to give you quick target aqusition. If I have to draw my weapon in the dark I don't have to bring the gun fully up to ensure I will hit my intended traget. I have tested my Crimson Trace at night with friends and it is very hard to tell where the light is coming from with out looking around. It is not like waving a flashlight at the bad guy.
These are lasers not weapon lights. The CT laser is already diffusing and spreading out. What you want in a laser is collimation and pinpoint accuracy. The Lasermax wins on this particular comparison with these two setups. compare the same beams at 50 ' instead of 15 and the CT will almost disapear in its messiness, the Lasermax will look very much the same. The LM puts all its brightness into a pinpoint, this is what a good laser does. The wider spot of the CT just means it is not well focused.
What he is showing is close up, so you really have no idea of the divergence. It just so happens that some lasers are wider than others at the aperture. He should place the guns on a table and look at the laser dots on a wall or something farther away, you can't really tell from the vid.
@Databyter really 50' with a pistol, most encounters happen from 0' to 3' feet in real life. and probably start and end within 3 to 5 seconds.. just my thoughts
If you anything about anything, moron, you would know that the lasermax is putting out 5mW of brightness at 635nm which is in the orangish/red portion of the spectrum. Both are exactly the same brightness. You obviously know squat about lasers.
Even if the CT were brighter, why is that better? A laser that you can't turn turn off brightly signaling an intruder sounds terrible. You fail.
Case of the Crimson Trace fanboy. Both are 5mW lasers and are EXACTLY the same brightness. If you want to see it better, Lasermax makes a green laser. The human eye is more sensitive to green light. You can even see the beam.
BY LAW the laser can be no brighter than 5mW so this is an outright lie. Anyway you are trying to see a dot, not blind people with your laser. Can see my lasermax dot just fine.
obviously one is putting out less.... maybe the CT puts out 5mW peak while the lasermax is 5mW stable? Anyway, I'm not buying a laser sight till green diodes become available to the public cheaply, current green modules are too bulky for pistols.
No, they're lying. lol Definitely not that the batteries are low. Get whichever you want. I don't care. I don't sell em. They're both the same. Believe whatever you want.
@priya1985 Not bigger. You mean brighter and yes I am aware of that. However it is not allowed for a weapon laser. Both of these are limited to a 5mW maximum.
@jps9901 CT is soon coming out with a green laser (as you would expect, as "everyone" is) CT has been working to perfect issues that green has (such as running hotter and using batteries much faster) before releasing their version.
Green has advantages, but many like red because of the intimidation factor. When placed on a bad guy, a red dot makes many people associate it with blood, and red is known to increase the adrenaline and stress of the bad guy as well. (as red does)
@romansten9 So much for CT and their green laser. As a shooter you want that garbage off the grip, you want to be able to turn the laser off, and you want it to be waterproof. CT still hasn't done any of this. Red is only good because it's cheaper, idiot. Has nothing to do with intimidation. Green is more visible to the eye. Your blood-red comparison is just a pathetic excuse for your Crimson Trace fanboyism. What a fucking moron. ROFL
@jps9901 I can buy two 50 watt speakers that according to you are "exactly" the same. Yet both will sound completely different. QUALITY over quantity (or in this case power) wins.
@mjm9536 Haha! Short answer, NOPE! The Lasermax is just as bright and same quality. You lose and the post was over a year ago...I mean, REALLY? Don't you have anything else to do, kid?
@jps9901 and yet the ct is albeit not focused in as small an area is clearly brighter in the video. yes they are the same power. and yes, mfr'ing and quality makes a different. Not to say lasermax is poor quality but on these two models the ct is plain and simple brighter. and don't get on my case about commenting a year later considering you replied a year later as well "kid" :-)
@mjm9536 They ARE both the same brightness. Have used both in real life. The CT is in NO WAY brighter. The Lasermax is also higher quality as it will stand up to abuse. What you are probably witnessing is either low batteries in the lasermax or that the strobe cause the light to look dimmer on camera. I assure you that neither is brighter and that the Lasermax is clearly visible across the room. 5mW is 5mW which means they are exactly the same brightness.
I prefer the Crimson to Lasermax, mainly because I don't really like the fact that the Lasermax pulsates, and, I've heard the mainspring that the laser is placed in breaks or malfunctions after a ew hundred rounds. I went with Crimson Trace!
I carry dual Para P14 pistols for my CCW. Since Crimson Trace doesn't make grips that'll fit these yet I use the Lasermax Uni green laser. They work amazingly well considering the crap product you get in the Lasermax guidrod lasers. However battery life is less than an hour and at $20 per set of batteries it gets expensive fast. I hope crimson trace makes a hi-cap 1911 grip soon. Either way thank God for bright tritium night sights.
I've had both. Lasermax on my G26, Crimson Trace on my Sig P229. Lasermax had to be replaced 3 times, activation button never worked correctly, and the little plastic battery cover kept cracking. After last replacement, I sold the thing. Crimson Trace is excellent. As a police officer, I need to be able to depend on my weapon to work when needed. If the internal Lasermax fails, your weapon can fail. if your Crimson Trace grips fail, you can still fire your weapon. Do the math !
the lasermax guiderod insert laser is about the biggest piece of shit ever made. its not built strong enough to absord the recoil of the guns its made to be installed in. they ususally break or malfunction after about 500 rounds of normal firing. The crimson trace laser grip IS brighter and a better design if you dont mind the very slight change made to the grip. and they are about 100 bucks cheaper too.
The LaserMax works perfectly in G26s and G17s through which I have fired thousands of rounds. Poster mentions "very slight change made to the grip" - this happens to be a very important factor and one I found unacceptable. LaserMax does not change your grip whatsoever. This video does not feature a LaserMax running on fully charged batteries, so it is a misrepresentation of the true performance of the device.
I have seen at least ten lasermax guide rod models that shatter after less than a thousand rounds to even consider putting that much more money into it. Maybe your lasermax has held up so far because its in the 9mm models, although I have seen a glock 19 shatter the lense in one too, so its probably all in the luck of the draw. I would not recommend these even to my worst enemy. But to each their own. another thing that gets me is you have to work the slide to get it to activate.
I like the Crimson trace laser grips. Some people like the lasermax even though they are more expensive and prone to breaking. The reason I like the crimson trace is because of the convience of it. it fits on the backstrap and activates when you grip the weapon. And it doesnt affect your holster choices like a forward (rail) mounted laser does. Crimson trace also makes one such forward mounted laser but its not really something I like. The grip for my Glock 27 is the LG-626.
the one on the xd is for longer range and will get bigger and the distance is increased noe on the revoler its bigger cause it for close incounters with in 15 yrds and closer .
Green lasers are crap when cold, and are less reliable. I've had three of them burn out on me from different manufacturers

@priya1985 Not bigger. You mean brighter and yes I am aware of that. However it is not allowed for a weapon laser. Both of these are limited to a 5mW maximum.
jps9901 1 year ago

QUALITY over quantity (or in this case power) wins.
mjm9536 9 months ago
@mjm9536 Haha! Short answer, NOPE! The Lasermax is just as bright and same quality. You lose and the post was over a year ago...I mean, REALLY? Don't you have anything else to do, kid?
jps9901 8 months ago 2
@jps9901 and yet the ct is albeit not focused in as small an area is clearly brighter in the video. yes they are the same power. and yes, mfr'ing and quality makes a different. Not to say lasermax is poor quality but on these two models the ct is plain and simple brighter. and don't get on my case about commenting a year later considering you replied a year later as well "kid" :-)
mjm9536 8 months ago

Wow... great video.

Fug it I got night sights, I dont need a laser.

Do the math !

hey, it's not the batteries. According to both MFG's website the Lasermax uses a 3mW laser and the Crimson Trace uses a 5mW laser. nuff said.

the lasermax guiderod insert laser is about the biggest piece of shit ever made. its not built strong enough to absord the recoil of the guns its made to be installed in. they ususally break or malfunction after about 500 rounds of normal firing. The crimson trace laser grip IS brighter and a better design if you dont mind the very slight change made to the grip. and they are about 100 bucks cheaper too.
s197stangdragger 2 years ago

But to each their own. another thing that gets me is you have to work the slide to get it to activate.
s197stangdragger 2 years ago
so what would you recommend? tlr-2? gtl? m6x?

I like the Crimson trace laser grips. Some people like the lasermax even though they are more expensive and prone to breaking. The reason I like the crimson trace is because of the convience of it. it fits on the backstrap and activates when you grip the weapon. And it doesnt affect your holster choices like a forward (rail) mounted laser does. Crimson trace also makes one such forward mounted laser but its not really something I like. The grip for my Glock 27 is the LG-626.

Ya, case of a much needed charged/new battery on the XD.

My Lasermax on my Glock 22 isn't that dim. Perhaps it would be advantageous to all if you took another video at night.

@FoxDie262
The other one will be all the MORE brighter also. Whats your point?
bert2050 2 years ago

Um... no.
TheChoada 2 years ago
Not true. We tested at close and long ranges. CT is brighter in both cases.
Kennardy 2 years ago 6
@Kennardy it is accuatly true.. tested both my self and daewen6 is right.. the LaserMax is ALOT more accurate at longer range.
