One of the contacts on the encoder "comb" is bent. Maybe you can unscrew the two screws holding it and bend it back into shape.

My Zeiss lens is not made by Tamron. And for you to assume that its a Sony Zeiss is even more absurd. Zeiss ZE's are made by Cosina Japan and assembled in Germany. My older Contax/Zeiss lenses are AE version made in Germany. Wow...

@mookgti Your Zeiss lens is made by Tamron if it's a Sony Zeiss lens and probably contains the same, if not more plastic.
