I am just a little confused....aren't you supposed to just keep your horse at a steady or brisk canter? I didn't know you could or should rush the jump. Doesn't that throw them off balance?

Stadium/show jumping is a timed event. As long as you're able to balance so that you don't hit the jumps, you should go as fast as possible :) I am working with several horses that have to rush to balance- it's especially true with younger horses.

I love in movies how hey can just leave the horse and walk away. It's not a bike. Some horses will stay most will leave especially with grass all around! :)

you can actually train horses to stand without being tied, even in grassy fields! it does test your patience, as to begin with when you tell the horse to stand and then step away they will walk or start to eat many times over, but every time they do you just back them up a few paces or turn them in a few small circles before asking them to stand again, and soon they get the message. I can now leave my horses in one place in a field full of grass and set up jumps and they will stand waiting.

I know you can teach a horse to ground tie. Thats why I said some will. They do it in every case in movies. Which I don't think they always apply. :)

ok, I get you :), I suppose they can take more than one shoot when filming so if the horse does forget him/herself and starts to eat/walk, they can just remind the horse and try again!
