  • How did you do the side mirrors? I want to do a pickup truck and love your ideas, I just get the side mirrors.

  • @SearchNScriptures Hi there! Thanks for watching and for the comment! The side-view mirrors were little balls of black fondant stuck on the ends of toothpicks and then secured with royal icing. You could probably do without the toothpicks, but I wanted to be sure they wouldn't fall off. Also, I informed my guests of any spots that inedible ingredients such as a toothpick so no one would be hurt! ;) hehe

  • It's wonderful. Thank you for posting.

  • thanks for sharing

  • i just wanted to say THANK YOU!! i have a mini cooper cake for this weekend (my 1st car cake) and i have been raking my brain trying to figure out the tires,., the fondant covered oreos is genius!!!

  • @erMunchkin Aw thanks :) Yea, clever, and tasty, too! hehe enjoy!

  • great tutorial! your cake looks amazing

  • @electricutes Thank you very much! That was my first time making any kind of carved cake, let alone a CAR cake. So, if you'd like to try for the first time, give it a shot! :)

  • OMG THAT IS SO AWSOME HAHAHAHA I WOULD LOVE TO GIVE IT A GO BUT IM TOO SCARED SO ILL LET HUBBY DO IT LOL GREAT WORK AND A GOOD SENCE OF HUMORE TO HAHAHAHA

  • im going to have a go at this next week. im pretty much a novice but i love making cakes! im going to do ordinary sponge with chocolate sprinkles as opposed to red, and im still deciding on a colour. just hope i can pull this off...

  • @thetrueincarnation Can I tell you something? This car cake was my FIRST TIME EVER CARVING A CAKE - EVER! haha So, it took me a while, because I'm an amateur as well, but that's okay! I took my time, tried to be as careful as possible. Like I said in the video, carve off a little at a time, because if you take a huge chunk off it's not as easy to patch back up. Feel free to ask me any and all questions you may need answered! unioncountychef@yahoo.com

  • i hope i can make one half as good as yours. i hve no idea how to edit youtube vids like this but i'll direct you to my fb so you can see the finished image

  • @thetrueincarnation Sounds good, I look forward to seeing your work :) Oh, and to make this vid, I used "iMovie" on my macbook. Just basically a picture slideshow, I suppose :) let me know when you'd like me to see your facebook! unioncountychef@yahoo.com

  • OMG im pulling it off...LOL.

ive done blue frosting n the middle but im going to copy you with the black colour...on account of the fact my dad has a black fiesta!

  • @thetrueincarnation Nice! sounds good, I'm looking forward to seeing it :)

  • i cant put anything up until after sunday. cos thats dad;s day...lol. itd spoil the surprise.

my windscreen a lot smaller than it should be. the overall shell is good though not as good as yours. ive bought real wheels as opposed to oreos too. so far so good :)

  • @thetrueincarnation awesome :) sounds fun! Can't wait to see!

  • @thetrueincarnation any word on the car cake pics? I'd really love to see :)

  • Hi .. what would you charge for a car cake similar to this one? Thank you.

  • @innocentgirl00 This cake came out to $170. It was $50 worth of materials (fondant, luster dust, sugar etc) and 12 hours of work. At that time, I was charging $10/hr for labor, and this cake took 12 hrs total. It wasn't a perfect system, because I wasn't able to predict an EXACT estimate for their price because I didn't know how long it would take at the time, but, $170. I am not a professional, so I felt my price was reasonable for my hard work, but not outrageous for such a specialized cake.

  • Amazing cake!!! How many people do you think this cake would feed?

  • Amazing cake!!! How many people do you think this cake would feed?

  • @drzsexiiladi Hi there! If I remember correctly, I think there were up to 30-40 something people at that rehearsal dinner, and everyone who wanted a piece got one. I believe the dimensions were roughly 15" from front to back, and at the tallest point it was about 3- 5" (3 layers of cake, filled with icing) I've found in my experience you can count on several people not even wanting cake at all, and then you should have some extra. If you cut normal-sized portions, it can feed quite a few ;)

  • Youpiiii!! ( Hoorah in french lol) I now know what to do for my brother's b-day! He will just love it in blue so thank you for sharing!!

  • @tiaree972 Glad you liked it! :) Thanks for the comment! If you have any questions, feel free to ask, either on youtube, or you can contact me through my site, unioncountychef.weebly.com

  • Very helpful tutorial, thanks for posting. I am attempting to make a corrado cake for a 30th birthday soon and didn't know where to start until i saw this!

What type of sponge cake is it best to use, did you use a madiera cake or just a normal sponge?

  • @acerone I used just normal sponge cake. :) What I usually do, is if you are trying to find a good recipe, I usually test them a little in advance (maybe a week or two before the cake order) to see the consistency/stiffness, etc. also, sometimes a little refrigeration will help the cake firm up to assist with carving, if need be. If you are in a pinch, store bought cake mixes, such as red velvet, have also worked for me. However, with any cake carving, take off little pieces at a time. :)

  • Amazing cake.. Awesome video , thank you for sharing the details of the making of the cake.. I am so scared to even give a try.. I love your video..I have a q , how do you place the cake to the cake board, do you place it before beginning or later.. thank you :)

  • @itshobbytime Hey there! Thanks so much for the interest! :) Well, this is how I did it:

I smeared a little icing right on the cake board; this helps to secure the cake in place on the board as you begin to stack it so it doesn't slide around on you. I actually carved the car RIGHT on the cake board itself and just cleaned up any crumbs afterwards. That's how I do it, and it works for me! :)

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask away! :)

  • How did you get your fondant so black?

  • @sarahjcheek1 Actually, I bought it already prepared, nice and convenient! "Satin Ice rolled fondant," it's called. However, I believe that if you want to dye white fondant yourself, there are special gel or powdered food colorings with which to do so: I have heard it is not highly recommended to use regular liquid food coloring because it could potentially change the consistency of your fondant. Hope this helps! :)

  • that was amazing, i want to give it a try but im afraid!

  • @miraculous91 Hey, trust me, I understand... i was TERRIFIED b/c my friend hired me to make this cake for a real-life rehearsal dinner for a wedding... I'm a full-time student in NYC and have to come home on weekends to make the cakes in my parents' kitchen... I come home friday afternoons, and they needed this cake for saturday evening! Not a lot of time to get such a cake done, so having only had like, two fondant cakes under my belt at the time, it was a little scary to dive into (cont'd...)

  • @miraculous91 (part 2) however, once I started to see the cake come to life... first with covering the carved cake with fondant, then adding all of the cute little details like tail lights and license plates, you start to go, "yes! YES!" I was a first-timer to this, too, so my two suggestions are...

    1) if you don't have any practice with fondant or carving cakes, try it out first and get a feel for proper consistancy, etc. 2) if you have the luxury, TAKE YOUR TIME! hehe

    Any questions? Ask me!

  • Amazing!! I'm making a car for the first time as well and your tutorial has been REALLY helpful!

  • @kaizahs thank you so much! I'm glad it helped. Make sure to also see my tutorial for a Gameboy Cake ("how to make a fondant gameboy cake") and keep checking in for new and exciting videos.

I am completely self-taught, and I love getting a job here and there for a birthday, anniversary or even wedding to get a chance to try new things, and I am glad to see you pursuing your interest, too!

  • I hope you all are finding this video helpful. This was my first time making a car cake, too, so trust me, I can understand how you feel... Believe you me, I tried to do my research to get prepared, but there were very little videos on the subject on youtube. So, I thought to make my own might be helpful. I hope it is! :-)
