Banks were over lending to the people, which increased their short term debit and decreased their liquidity. USA government promoted high spree shopping rather than saving money in the bank.

The big problem for foreign lenders (banks, investment funds and governments) is that they themselves face a shortage of funding as much of the internal lending between banks is made in dollars. The Dollar is the international currency - so when large values in dollar evaporate like US stocks and US properties have done - the whole world is suffering a shortage of money. That is why the dollar is strengthening instead of weakening. The world has to stop trading in dollars as soon as possible.
The issue is very simple. America promotes its Treasuries and MBS as investment vehicles to the world. So investors lent US the money and it is expected that the principle plus interest to be returned as compensation. If US cannot back its Treasuries and MBS anymore, then US would have effectively admitted its insolvency. Politicizing the issue does not negate the fact that US cannot repay its debt. It is simply unwise to hold US Treasuries and debts as US is practically insolvent.
This is the whole point. Treasuries are backed by the full faith and credit of the US government yadda yadda, so is Ginnie Mae paper, nothing else is supposed to be! On Fannie and Freddie paper, it said so in large print.
This bill applied a taxpayer guarantee to mortgage paper. That is not about US solvency, it is about private investment risk. Have people decided the US should hand out risk-free returns like candy all of the sudden?

The reason why the American companies choose to invest on the plants in China and produce their goods in China is because it costs less than doing the same in say India or Mexico. This is what capitalism is about, things are done in ways that provide maximized profit. The capitalists don't care about the future of the nation. that is because noone did a proper accounting treatment of the REAL cost of offshoring. If someone turned around and said right, you import goods from a non-floating currency economy, you pay import duty that would fix a lot of the trade imbalance very quickly. If someone turned around and said right mr US registred country, you moved 500 jobs offshore last month, your company tax is now up by x% based on some percentage of total workforce or value of overseas input, that would also work!

Sorry i don't American shares, wealth is relative, but i earn a steady wage. And i work in the Pharmaceutical industry not the banking/finance industry. But the current crisis is the result of past government treasury policy, where the government allow bankers to undertake high risk short term investment. Banks were over lending to the people, which increased their short term debit and decreased their liquidity. USA government promoted high spree shopping rather than saving money in the bank.

I accept your point, but you also need to factor in the fact that China's doing this not only for political plan, but a commercial one. Buying T-bills was a safe way of keeping China's savings. Now with the dollar at an all time low, US economy crashing and rising interest rates, there's no incentive for China to continue to hold onto the US bonds. It is a mutual thing. China wants the US econ to hold much more than the US thinks.

The big problem for foreign lenders (banks, investment funds and governments) is that they themselves face a shortage of funding as much of the internal lending between banks is made in dollars. The Dollar is the international currency - so when large values in dollar evaporate like US stocks and US properties have done - the whole world is suffering a shortage of money. That is why the dollar is strengthening instead of weakening. The world has to stop trading in dollars as soon as possible.

The issue is very simple. America promotes its Treasuries and MBS as investment vehicles to the world. So investors lent US the money and it is expected that the principle plus interest to be returned as compensation. If US cannot back its Treasuries and MBS anymore, then US would have effectively admitted its insolvency. Politicizing the issue does not negate the fact that US cannot repay its debt. It is simply unwise to hold US Treasuries and debts as US is practically insolvent.

This is the whole point. Treasuries are backed by the full faith and credit of the US government yadda yadda, so is Ginnie Mae paper, nothing else is supposed to be! On Fannie and Freddie paper, it said so in large print.
This bill applied a taxpayer guarantee to mortgage paper. That is not about US solvency, it is about private investment risk. Have people decided the US should hand out risk-free returns like candy all of the sudden?

Actually, there's been news reports of people talking about terrorism and bombs in the United States, which has resulted in arrests- especially in the time right after 9/11. The fear of terrorism in AMerica is so great that they have accepted losing their civil liberties. They accept torture, wiretapping, etc. Even an Aqua Teen Hunger Force ad campaign turned into a terrorism scare. This is common knowledge. You may not be a defender of America, but you are very ignorant unfortunately.

Any human society sucks in some ways; the point is...whether the people inside their countries feel good or not. in China the satisfactory rate for the country is 85%. can we say the same thing for US?
