To what extent are we a particular type and to what extent is it undynamic and limited to characterise people as one type or another in a rigid typology rather than a view whereby we have all elements but certain preponderances and propensities and certain trajectories towards patterns that may be healthier or less healthy depending on how they suit us and our environments? And can we describe families, countries and so on as also having propensities towards certain types, not just individuals?
@MagnaCartaTwo The Enneagram is dynamic by nature. Nothing is static. This is not a rigid typology because each of us emerges individually and adapts to the circumstances we find ourselves in. And yet we only do that within our personality type. Behaviour does not determine type, it is what drives that behaviour. This acts as a seed from which the personality emerges. The extent to whether it flourishes (or flounders) is down to the environment it is exposed to.
@MagnaCartaTwo Each of these 'seeds' is in essence a base vibration that has inherent characteristics that can certainly be used to understand cultures, societies and collective consciousness.
@enneagramuk I'm new to all this and I am sure that there are many different forms of interpetation on these questions, but one site I just looked at after having done a quick Google search suggested that a six might move in a nine-ish direction when getting healthier, and the idea of a Britain arcing towards a more peacemaking direction is an interesting one.
@MagnaCartaTwo Its my belief that the 'integration' that you speak about for the six can be achieved in Three as well as Nine. Its simply not the case that Six gets 'healthier' by moving towards Nine. So re: Britain. I don't know if you can say we are moving in any firm direction, i think that would be too simplistic :)
Hi I'm a five yet at a party I can come across as being more outgoing than I am survival skill from attending so many schools as a child, I also relate to the nine description. When I am comfortable in public I am quite and observing.
I'm a 1, and I recognize what she is saying, though she isnt really saying anything about how they apporach people in that setting, which is quite confusing for me, because I really dont know. I often feel like a 4 in that sitaution, and a 5. But sometimes even a 7. How is 1s typical behaviour connected to social settings when confronted with people? (and I realize that what I wrote now is typical 1 lol)
Yes, her 4 description is more typical of 4w5. I know I've behaved like this at times. Not always, but this behavior can come out of me pretty naturally. A 4w3 might experience something different.
I am a 4w5 as well, and find the description of 4 and 5 to be exactly what I do in a situation like that. I swing back and forth between feeling like I'm from another planet and being quite distressed by that fact, to knowing I am and loving it. In groups I prefer to just sit back and observe whats going on, but one on one I prefer deep and intense emotional interaction. Small talk is torture. I can't help thinking "who cares about this stuff?" and yet I wish I did, at least to some degree.
@enneagramuk It is not in correct. I can clearly see myself as being the introverted and reserved person. I hate people who are craving for recognition, so I would never push myself to the fore.

@enneagramuk What enneagram type is Britain?
MagnaCartaTwo 4 weeks ago
@MagnaCartaTwo The Victorian era was very ONE, there is still much of that around now. In modern day it is quite SIX.

Once you labeled everybody with numbers, ask them about their Zodiac signs. It will make a lovely party indeed!

I had the same feeling when she talked about type 4. I might feel like I don't fit in, but I think my 3-wing makes me a pretty sociable person.
I also think this has a lot to do with your tritype - I'm a 497 and might behave like a 9 or a 7, depending on the situation.
