  • is it really that loud?

  • you better stay away from the acoustic weapon of snapping shrimp lol

  • where the fuck did they get all the thousands shrimp sounds from ?

  • That's how I knock out prostitutes that want my money, by snapping at them.

  • @iShank2Win I've tried that, but they always get me with their snappers.

    *Rimshot*

  • Well there is no air inside of the bubble correct? Since it's underwater and all... So the bubble just dissipates since it is moving so fast and contains no air I guess

  • @stfuplzzzz Look up cavitation on wikipedia! Or just listen to what the guy in this video is saying.

  • SONIC BOOOOM

  • Its called a pistol shrimp not a snapping shrimp

  • @brolly9001 snapping shrimp is the general name for all shrimp who are able to snap like that

  • michael (vsauce) sent me here

  • tickle it with a paintbrush. hehehe

  • if it emits energy the same as the surface of the sun, wouldn't the shrimp cook itself then? lool :{

  • @XpianoxboyX No, the heat is around 4,700°C and it is so small that the water around it takes away the heat.

  • @XpianoxboyX not how energy works, dude.

  • @XpianoxboyX It's not the temperature, it's how much mass has a certain temperature. Standing in water at 60 Celsius is very bad for you, but opening an oven at 300 Celsius is perfectly safe as long as you don't touch the metal. That is because water is much heavier than air, so it can carry a lot more heat energy while having a lower temperature.

The amount of water that reaches 4700 Celsius is so small that it doesn't burn.

  • @XpianoxboyX No, This only happens for the smallest amount of time that it doesn't have any time to effect the shrimp or anything around it, Just imagine someone walking on hot coals, it doesn't burn their feet cause they step for a short amount of time

  • Awesome video great results.

  • That should be the first animal who actually cooked his food. lol

  • Thank you, great video. Much more info than the BBCs.

  • lol when he says tickled with a paint brush i die laughing

  • i wonder what it taste like

  • is that christopher walken commentating this?

  • @durkadurka91 Haha, you would tend to think so, huh?

This was a experiment done in the Netherlands, by the University of Twente. The commentary is done by a Dutch person, hence the accent.

  • Some other video said that their bubble gets as hot as the sun for a short time, sounds a little like BS, huh? This video actually explains what happens, tyvm...

  • 007 version Shrimp

  • wow, is someone making popcorn at the start of the video?

  • Pistol shrimp = Snapping shrimp.

  • Sonic BOOM!

  • the bubble also reaches the temperature of the sun for a split second

  • dont let megaman know about this shrimp or he'll come after the bubble atk.

  • and why does the bubble collapse instead of rising to the surface?

  • "...The water jet velocity is so high that the corresponding pressure drops below the "faker" pressure of water, and a cavitation bubble is generated...".

    what is faker pressure...

  • @pokenei it's vapor pressure. =P

  • Implosion power on a small scale : )

  • Can't we use them to make electricity?

  • Holy snap

  • Favorite line: "For example, this small Crap here" LMAO His accent disrespected the Crab!

  • SONIC BOOM!!

  • bubble beam is probably the shit then

  • thats one cool ass bubble gun x)

  • then a math equation came.. made the video boring...

  • omg bubble dynamics... i love it!

  • veeeeeeeererrrrrrrrrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyyyy innnteerrrreeessstttiinnnng

  • lol he is dutch! u can hear it by his accent

  • when a gas or liquid moves at high speed it drops in pressure, the water extruded at high speeds from the claw moves fast enough so that the pressure drops allowing the water to become gas, seeing as water cannot be compressed, a supersonic wave passes through it into the nearest thing to the claw such as a shrimp, the shrimp's brain is frazzled then it dies THE END

  • Pistol shrimp used bubblebeam.

    Super effective?

    Prawn is defeated!

    Pistol shrimp receives 244exp!

  • @crazy619 lol "DING"

  • 2:04 AHHHHHH OMG!!!!

  • this narrator's accent rapes my ears.

  • heh

"the shrimp was then tickled with a big brush"

that sounded sorta odd to me

  • @JruidTheDruid paint brush

  • when water is at a very low pressure, i.e. a vacuum, it expands to its most spread out form, which is a gas. When the shrimp closes its claw, the jet of water is traveling at an extremely high speed. since a high speed or flowing rate results in an equally lowered pressure (bernoulli's principle), the pressure of the stream is lowered enough for the water to become a gas, as stated above. =D woot physics

  • @hypurbeing And when the water becomes gas (bubble) and it stopped travelling, the pressure goes back and the bubble collapses inward violently. When the inside surface of the bubble hits each other, it produces the sound and shock wave, plus it produces a heat that is comparable to the heat on the surface of the sun because of the Law of Thermodynamics which means two surface that hits each other will produce heat (hit a nail with a hammer and the nail becomes hot. Get it?) =D

  • @aj27117 not to mention the cavitation bubble is what makes this the loudest animal on earth

  • these shrimps are good at math

  • 2:40 BOOM HEADSHOT!

  • i don not understand where the bubble comes from. the shrimp is underwater all the time so how does air get there??? does the pressure come out so fast it moves the water out of the way for a split second? but then that brings me back to how the air gets in there >.>

  • @ccdrev99 It's not air...

  • @ParabolicBox if its not air what is it? magic?!?!!?

  • @ccdrev99 It's water vapour. Listen to the narrator in the video. He explains it well enough.

  • @ParabolicBox It's actually not water vapour... there are various gases dissolved in the water (Oxygen, Nitrogen, etc) and, from what I understand, it's when he snaps his claws shut and the water rushes out of the pocket of one half of the claw and over the contour of the other, a lot of negative pressure is generated. This literally "sucks" the gases out of solution and forms a bubble which then collapses on itself again.

  • @ccdrev99

    It's basically nothing.

The pistol crab injects a blob of pure nothingess into the air, i mean water.

Then all of the water collapses into the empty space.

If the crab tried that where there was no air, nothing would happen.

  • @Pivoteer24 No. The shrimp can only produce the sound if it is in the water. Cavitation only occurs in water. Listen to the narrator. The sound did not come from the snapping claw, but from the jet of water that was ejected when the claws closes.

  • @aj27117

    Smart ass

  • @aj27117 I agree with you (and the scientists) in theory. However, interestingly, my shrimp readily make that "snap" when they're out of water, e.g, sitting in my hand. I guess there must be remnant water in the claw cavity? Perhaps they can fill it with fluid sans water? Next time I fiddle with the tank, I'll test them... At any rate, awesome video.

  • The heat lasts an extremely short time... the only way we know about it is because of the quick flash of light (not visible to the naked eye) that happens when the bubble collapses. I think you'd have to be at the center of the collapsing bubble in order to be affected by it , which is probably unlikely because of the jet of water that comes in front of the bubble. That's all speculation though : /.

  • This Shrimp Is Actually Called The Pistol Shrimp Which Is The Worlds Loudest Animal

  • BOOM! HEADSHOT!! haha

  • @prammaven sounds like fun ^_^

  • @prammaven depends how hard you tickles

  • This is sooo cool!

I want the job of the guy who had to tickle the shrimp. I'd probably do it for free!

  • Wise up people this bubble will do no harm to a human. Prob like being pinched

  • Unless you make a Giant Claw...

  • @Reader90909 when the shrimp snaps its claws it sends a shockwave of heat hotter than the sun. so the least it can do is paralyze. the most it can do is kill.

  • @Woofay4 Yeh but how long dose this heat last 4 Its too fast to do any actual damage to a human, Or am i wrong ?

  • @Reader90909 i would say for at least the very least 10 seconds but u have to remember that is one fast shockwave but it is said to be too short to actually harm humans with the heat and when i ment paralyze i didnt mean wheel chair i ment it would like stun a finger but if ur too close to the shockwave when it hits it can kill because of the massive heat

  • @Reader90909 this bubble is a shockwave far hotter than the sun. so the least it can do is paralyze. the most is kill. just letting u kno

  • communicate wit udder shrimp. AND damn they had that little shrimp all locked up :( I felt sorry for him.

  • No no no...

    BANKAI!!!! Cavataion bubble blast!!!! ICHIGO!!!!!!!

Random arrancar: OH NOEZ NOT THE CAVATATION BUBBLE!!! *tries to shadow step*

TOO LATE IT ALREADY GOT HIM!!!

Arrancar is paralyzed so Ichigo drags his body away to eat it... oh wait... maybe not...

  • @Pixelrelated lol u crazy xDDD

  • nice... i had same thoughts

  • how is tht one of the louds sounds in the world?

  • you played youtubillionaire?

  • that and hours before i wikied it because i have no life lol jk.

  • haha i did xD

  • @redice1024 ahaahaaahh I played it too. the shrimp is intersting

  • @americancomrade I guess that you can't hear it very loud because of the water or something :S

  • haha "tickled with a paint prush"

  • *tickles you with a paint Brush*

  • looks tastey

  • it shits on your face

  • 2:40 - 2:43 SONIC BITCH SLAP

  • i just ate this kind of shrimp today :D

  • Pistol Shrimp? More like "Hadoken Shrimp"!

  • @RagingBanebou excellent comment good sir, i commend you

  • onix roll onthem snapping shrimp and make tortillas out of them so i can eat them at taco bell later for who ever hits a home run gets a free taco day

  • bublasaur eat those snping shrimp

  • the crab...oh my god...crap

  • must be require a lot of mana.. hahaha

  • hahahaha :D

  • @taufan8687 LOL

  • @taufan8687 stupid nerd

  • @KakashiTheWorrier Thank you.. I'm honored.. :)

  • @KakashiTheWorrier

Stupid and nerd ... Two opposites if you ask me, so which one is it?

  • @Embraced89 No, the opposite of Stupid is Smart, do you see how that works?

  • @Embraced89 Stupid and nerd are NOT opposites, let me tell you.

  • @taufan8687 NO AMBROSIA AND NECTAR

  • hahaha tickled with a paintbrush, how CRUEL

  • Pistol Shrimp, I choose you!

    Pistol Shrimp, use bubble blast!

*Pistol Shrimp uses Bubble Blast on Krabby...*

    *It's super effective!*

    *Krabby takes 100 cavitation damage*

    *Krabby faints!*

  • Haha, that's perfect

  • you think it hurts a human??

  • hell no

  • @samir500i i wouldn't want to find out myself as I've heard that the heat of this bubble made by a grown up pistol shrimp is about as hot as the sun :S

  • when it snap's in slow motion the bubble or something is same tempature as the sun

  • no,it doesn't it gets close but not quite

  • as you can see,,,, small CRAP (crab) lol

  • OH SNAP

  • Wow!! That's really interesting!

  • i have 3 of these in my fish tank and they've broken the glass 7 times, there such a pain in the ass

  • you made my day

  • sweet fag, i hope ur mom has been educated on abortions since having a failure of a child like you

  • LOL!

  • Kill them.

  • the implosion of the bubble momentarily reaches the temperature of the sun.

  • SONIC BOOM!

  • are pistol shrimp tasty deep fried?

  • pistal shrimp would beat matis shrimp i think Ranged attack vs melee attack :D

    ranged wins

  • mantis would definetly win if it got close it would murder it plus its speed eyesight and intllegance mantis shrimp can break ur thumb while pistal shrimp only stun small fish

  • The only thing that would matter is who got the first hit in. Also, both of them are pretty powerful, but the pistol shrimp is designed to take out enemies in a single hit of the sonic boom.

The mantis is WAY bigger, though, so the sonic boom would have to be right next to his head, probably, and a hit with the mantis shrimp's claw would probably stun/kill the pistol in one hit because of the size difference.

  • so whos stronger or faster? mantis shrimp or pistol shrimp?

  • really depends on size. if the pistols are big enough. goodbye mantis

  • lightning speed? come on ;/

  • at 0:57 it's all heheheheheheheehehee stop it!! it tickles!!

  • over 9000!

  • studies show that this is even louder then the blue whale

  • That's a motherfucking Kingler using Bubble Beam.

  • LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

  • Sonoluminescence, no?

  • slominisesence...yea sure

  • can you eat em or what?!

  • when they are alive? why not?

  • BOOM!! HEAD SHOT!!! Really great aim for a shrimp...

  • fascinating

  • Lol tickled by a paintbrush.

  • lol so the shrimp was tickled by a paint brush lol

  • real life pokemon

  • it aint fake dumbass, pistol shrimps are very real

  • ur dumb

  • yea its fake until one of these things shows up at the front of your door wanting money with a loaded claw to your head

  • ROFL:D:D:D:D nice one:D..... laughed my ass off:D

  • So if I get a whole bunch of these pistol shrimps, you think I could heat water for my home? :)

  • yes, and power your car and get killed.

  • the heat is about 200,000,000 degese or something

  • o_O

    it's 9900 degrees centigrade

  • It's over 9000!

  • yes, it is

  • sonoluminescence ftw

  • Next, behold the shotgun crab!! btw i think it would be more like Guile's SOONIC BOOM!

  • Hadoooken!

  • wtf that?

  • Hadoken! is what Ken and Ryu say on "Street Fighter 2" 1 on 1 fighting game. It is a move where they shoot out some ball of energy that knocks the opponent down. as seen in this video at 33 seconds VOtfSPiReKE unfortunatly, I could not find a 5 second clip of just doing a hadoken, maybe I will make one and upload it, because that isn't a good video.

  • i bet lockheed martin is using this shrimps method to create a new weapon of severe destruction, that leaves no evidence of its use behind.

  • They already working on that, notice whales and other ocean life washing up on shores already dead.

  • great explain

    big thx

  • OMG imagine if we cloned an experimental one except it grew to like 500x its normal size then did its snap thing in the ocean like the whole world would be paralized! and probably burnt if that temperature thing did work.

  • dude hes gangsta he shoots sideways and stuff

  • this is key to sonofusion

  • It Looks Like a Mini Lobster

  • what defense does the shrimp have that prevents it from stunning itself with this sonic pulse majiggy?

  • Dude, I was right there until they started explaining it with math @2:04!!!

    Sweet explanation though.

  • Lock, stock and one smoking claw

  • Thanks, this explained it well
