  • This video teaches almost nothing. You explain how to download and burn an image and then go on talking about your setup without talking about how you got their. Very poor tutorial.

  • Thanks for the info

  • its quite good that guys are trying to tell that there is not only asterisk, but few other opensource PBX

    but

asterisk has quite good docs and support base

and I would suggest starters to start from it cause other PBX are based on asterisk and if u'll get onto it it would be much easier for u to learn other PBX software

  • I downloaded the latest Asterisknow and the install looks nothing like this, I don't get a ip address shown to point the web browser, I try to log into the server it won't let me use the password i entered during setup!!

lots of googling later i found the username to be freepbx and password to be fpbx...WTF!!??

No setup page just a bunch of options.

FUCK this shit this is why i use windows because as fucked up as it is at then end of the day shit works on it and its easy to use

    Fucking retards

  • i have installed sipfoundry they have one of fastest growing community that could become the first choice for many of us, sipfoundry supports pure sip with voice-mail IVR, and user portal and minimum features for such small office and it claims to handle over 500 concurrent active sip session.

anyway asterisk without sip proxy can only have 50 concurrent session

  • which Sipfoundry application did you download ? was it SIPX ?It would be a great idea for a video of it to be produced especially with its native backup server setup facility

  • hey, i cant even tell you are from georgia, cept for the out of sync audio, lol, latency?

  • asterisknow is not so bad to get up and running.. as long as you know your config files

  • I have tryed out AsteriskNow and have found it to be very buggy. Better off learning how to compile asterisk in a linux term will be a more stable system. AsteriskNow im my opinion is no good for a production business phone system unless you can afford downtime.

  • hey could anyone help me out!I tried installing asterisk but as soon as I press enter for installation the next screen doesnt come up instead it says that it cant recognize the CD and the required rpath files. But the rpath files were there inside. ????

  • If you're still having problems with this, check the md5 hash to ensure the download was not corrupted. I had to download twice to get it to work. Good luck.

  • ha ha ha :)

  • I like the idea of making and receiving calls while away from home. Not to sound like an idiot, but what is the easiest (or should I say the least expensive) way to set this up for home use? I assume I need to buy special hardware since I don't currently have VoIP (I'm using a standard landline).

  • Get an old PC. Install hardware that will give you an FXS port for plugging a phone into. Download and install AsteriskNOW onto that PC. Done.

  • As for the hardware, the easiest thing to do is to install a PCI card from digium because it will work out of the box and be supported natively by Asterisk now. The Digium TDM10B Single FXS is about $150 retail. For about $50-90 you can get an network based Analog Telephone Adapter (ATA) that will have an FXS port. Digium makes one called the IAXy. You can then configure it and configure AsteriskNOW to get it to work.

  • You should check this video also, it is much cooler (sorry Mark). I advise you to download and install the system presented in the other video (4PSA VoipNow), it makes AsteriskNOW to look like a seven years kid toy.

  • Shoot... if someone is installing a Linux based PBX, they are not likely to be a "non-techie".

  • "What's a gooey?"

It is the phonetic way to say GUI. GUI stands for graphical user interface.

  • MohDemos: I knew that.. just trying to be clever! :-)

I like this use of youtube very much - do it more! But there were alot of insider terms like GUI (pronounced gooey) that will make no sense to non-techies.

I'm looking forward to having an application for asterisk - have been watching it and am very excited about the possibilities.

    Cheers,

    Tobias

  • What's a gooey?

  • lol no0b

  • lol

  • asterisk shines for small business that uses the phone in any way. You can do voicemail that reaches you by email, call filtering by caller id, unlimited speed dialing.

  • It is possible to put a asterisk now on a routerboard with mpci slots???

  • Congratulations for a great idea, now Asterisk will be massive! Great!

  • It was a great explanation. Users can view this as a linksys router of sorts, for home or work use, that you can configure to handle all your voice over IP needs.

  • " This sounds very instersting. However, I am not sure if this is just for businesses or, also for a home user?"

its free and for home users as well

  • Let me put it like this...

For households with at least three adults and 2.2 kids contending for the phone, "*" is a dream come true. If configured properly, "*" will handle simultaneous calls and process incoming(CID) and outgoing(block ld or require call code) calls. This means that Jen's phone buddies goes to Jen's phone/ext and not ring the hold house. To add to that, if Jen is to be in bed at 8pm, her buddies can opt to leave a message of ring up the parents parents to talk.

  • Because it is network(TCP/IP) based, it can go wireless. The remote functionality is endless. I can travel to Japan (or anywhere I can access the internet) crank up my laptop and VOIP app, login to my "*" server in the US and make phone calls without ld fees. Its like v*nage on steroids but you having total control.

"*" is the shilnitz! I know this because I do this.

    Peace,

    -YDT

  • schweeeeeet

  • This sounds very instersting. However, I am not sure if this is just for businesses or, also for a home user?

  • great vid for a freakin awesome app.

    Trix is for kids.

  • Astersisk@home is now called trixbox. Same project.

  • Intersting. I wonder how close this project compares to trixbox or asterisk at home.

I found it interesting and a bit confusing that when registering for the asterisknow project i got the following response:

"Thank you for registering at Asterisk at Home or Asterisk at Work in 30 MINUTES :: AsteriskNOW."

So is asterisknow taking the asterisk at home name?
