if you got platinum, search for a gun flash on google. make sure it has a blank background. Chroma key the background out, then use event pan crop to move it around into the right place.

@MasterMagician21 There's a simple, yet unfortunate, answer to your problem. It can't be done. You see, masking is only available in the PRO versions of Vegas. You can do front and side flashes to great effect without pro, (especially if you have the Video Copilot Action Essentials 2 package) but 1st person is not really possible. However, if you happen to be a student or teacher, you can purchase pro 10 for around $275 instead of the usual $600.

Have you learn about Key framing? It's basically going to add animations in your video. Like from one point your video is in the left then you add another point so that your video goes to the right.

Use the Event Pan/Crop to move it around though.

hey dude...early Happy Birthday greetings! I guess After Effects is brilliant, complicated and very expensive but awesome effects. I am just starting to use Effectslab pro. It is very cheap and has paricle generators (smoke/fire/blood etc), lightsaber and muzzle flash generators as well as awesome colour grading. I'll be putting a vid up over the weekend showing a couple of things and asking if people want me to do some tuts on it Fits really well to use with Vegas.

best thing would be to shoot the person on a background such as blue or green to create transparency, then you can put anything including text behind them. If the footage is already shot I think masking is the only way but would be very timeconsuming if you have a lot of movement in the vid.

When I render AVI in HD my flashes move around to different spots than where I put them. What am I doing wrong?

No once I get everything set and try to render it will only render with the muzzle flashes placed correctly if I do a lower grade render, say DVD or something like that. Once I go to 1080 it moves the muzzle flash a little on each one so they don't line up with the gun. They are on the right frame, just the wrong place. When I go back and look in the preview window it looks fine. Is it because I have to have the preview window in the same quality as the render?

trying to create flashing still images but struggling to do so. making the images shorter but the then jus become a slitther on the time line and difficult to work with i want to acheive jus a quick flashing image probs less than a second long help it's driving me insane.

don't try and shorten the image, simply zoom into the time line using your scroll wheel on your mouse until you see tenths/100ths of a second as in the video and simply use the composite level to turn the image either on or off :)
