I'm not sure and wonder about that myself. I sure like sound that I'm getting with the open coil but the nickel covers look great. I'll have to look into that also.
@george5555, I'm sorry but I'm a fan of almost all of the Les Paul Standard line, to include most of the variants (traditional, traditional pro, etc). On mine, (the traditional pro), the price was right and I wanted the Grover locking tuners already installed. I can't say that I really use the coil tapping/single coil function available on this guitar.
The tuners are very good, the pickups sound great, and the guitar is weight relieved, not chambered, so it is more like the regular "standard" les paul of old days. I just thought, for the price, it was the better option for me.
@IdahoAir Hi man sounds nice and your playing is good, only thing I would say is to take the treble and bass on your amp down and crank the mid thats where the sweet tones spots are =) it makes the guitar sound smooth and creamy.
great video im buying this guitar in about an hour hahahaha has anyone ever told you, you have a very classic actor type face lol great jam keep it up!!
@Rangerhalt1 There are no problems at all with this guitar. I'm using two tube amps, so that helps, but the guitar is really carrying its own weight. Both with distortion effects and clean, this guitar is great, defin worth the price (its not chambered like the regular "standards" but instead is merely weight relieved). The locking Grover tuners are a very good upgrade from the stock tuners.
@IdahoAir Thanks. My plans are to buy this guitar, and after a while I'll buy Slash Seymour Duncan pickups. Along with grover locking tuners and strap locks.
@Rangerhalt1 Dude, I have one of these damn things and mine has problems. The guitar is just "ok", not like my old one from back in the day. Feels like a cheap guitar. Worst problem is tuning, the G string and somewhat the B string won't stay in tune. I have to get mine worked to fix...it's either the cheapo locking tuners, or the cheapo Corian nut they use. No matter, I'll have to shell out another $100 or so, cuz I can't use it like it is. Just try one before you buy it. Friendly advice.
@Sweeper5 You probably just got a bad guitar. Go back to where you bought it and demand a different one. I've played these before. It was great. I had no problems at all.
@Rangerhalt1 I thought that too at first...but I've read many user reviews, and this is a pretty common problem with these trad pros. I've been playing for longer than I care to remember; never had problems like this, not even on cheap guitars. I'm likely spoiled, because I have some pretty killer guitars, but stil. Just make sure you try it out really good before you buy. Tune/untune it, bend the hell out of the strings. I'm sure there are some good ones out there, mine isn't. Good luck!
@IdahoAir NP man, pretty classy playing to my ears. I'm saving for one of these myself ... only problem is having trouble deciding between vintage and cherry burst. Beautiful guitar.
hey can i ask you question, does a (Epiphone) les paul pro traditional could give the same (tremelo) effect with a pedal, i mean (like Boss ME-25), if there is no tremelo.
Looks like a great setup you have there. I am thinking of getting one of those guitars, now that you have had it awhile, do you still like it? You play some better than I do, but I keep trying.
Great guitar. Same color I just got. Agree with IdahoAir - NO WAY it replaces a strat. It has it's own single coil thing going on. I HIGHLY suggest you try it before you buy it. I tried 4 (Vintage Sunburst - Too Fat (great for clean, but muddy as hell in distortion), Wine Red - Great highs but no balls/fat, Finally I found one with great balance of fat and highs - with no muddiness. The Plek'd DEFINITELY works - NO string buzz on any of the 4.
@hcj1967 yeah, I agree about it not replacing a strat... It won't get those strat out-out-phase sounds. But y'know... it actually does the Telecaster thing surprisingly well. Lots of snap, bite, and tele-like snarl in single-coil mode. Now I happen to like Teles a lot, but this will get into that neighborhood if you need it to...
@IdahoAir I had the nut on my Gibson Explorer changed to a "delrin" nut, the delrin material is such that it feels like it is permanently "lubed'. End result, stays in tune without any fuss. (Explorers because of the tuning peg placement have a tendency to go out of tune, stick in the nut and "ping", since I changed to a nut made out of delrin, no more problem.)
This seems like the ideal LP with all the features I would hope for: The coil tap factory installed, locking tuners, and 60's slim taper neck! I just have one question--what do you think of the pleked fretboard? Do you feel it makes a big difference? And does this LP have the long neck tendon?
I think it is. The locking tuners alone are a noteworthy upgrade. The neck is very playable but not sure it has the long tenon you asked about... good question.
I bought mine, took it immediately to a Gibson authorized luthier for a setup. He gave it a thumbs up.
Now I am right on the brink of purchasing this guitar. I've tried it out, and tested it in various different ways. The one question I have is that: Because the guitar has the coil-splitting, does that mean that the humbuckers are any less effective? Or are the humbuckers still amazing Gibson humbuckers?
The humbuckers are great. The coil splitting that knocks them down to single coil is good but..., don't expect Stratocaster tone.... just a bit different but still good. But these humbuckers are the best - I wouldn't change them.
hey dude i figure your the best person to ask this as your one of the few with vids posted of yourself actually playing this guitar well heres my question im saving up and its beteween a 1992 57' reissue stratocaster and the same guitar you are playing in this video can you give me some insight?
Well, you've asked the right person in that I also own a 2007 '57 reissue Fender Strat (that's it in the background). I love them both. The Strat, to me, is better for rhythm playing along the lines of the Rolling Stones/SRV. Really depends on the sound you are going after. Know this might not be a direct answer but that's the problem, both are outstanding guitars.
I'm not sure and wonder about that myself. I sure like sound that I'm getting with the open coil but the nickel covers look great. I'll have to look into that also.

Some players state that the open coil has a different tone than the nickel covered is this true?

How heavy is this guitar ? Is it comfortable playing standing up for a couple of hours ?

@Machin3God It's not bad, you get used to it. This is weight relieved (not chambered).

hi! I was just wondering if its ok playing guns n roses stuff with this guitar. does it have the slash sound?
Efforts1 1 year ago
@Efforts1 Yes, I feel that it does. Of course you would want it slightly overdriven through a tube amp for that sound, I would think.

I like the sound. I have to get one of these at some point.

@Sweeper5 I typed that in six months ago. I already got a Epiphone Les Paul Standard about three or four months ago anyway. I don't regret it either.

Nice playing, but too much effects for my taste. In my opinion, that amount of drive and delay killed the tone for that kind of music.
Anyway, keep the good job ;)

It stays in tune quite well. Suggest using lube/graphite on nut/saddle when you put the strings on though- that helps with any guitar.
