i way 125 pounds and ive been debating on wich vangaurd to get flex 4 or 5. i want a board that will be really flexie like in the vidoes for that trampaline effect but i dont want to have to worry about bottoming it out. does any body have any knowledge they can share with me?

well you cant really say.. the vangaurd is already flexy and my friends own a flex 4 and 5. i tried it and its almost the same from my perspective. The vangaurd is meant for carving, so i cant really tell you which one to get..

if you do get one, the best way is try to absorb some of your jump with your knees.. try going from small to bigger hippy jumps when you first get it so you know the boards limit before it bottoms out.

I think dervish, coz it has nicer nose n tail plus it's a drop through deck so you can slide easier with a lower point of gravity

the Vanguard is awfully high off the ground (not THAT high, but pretty high) and its not the steadiest for bombing. Sliding is amazing on the vanguard and dancing isnt bad, but the thinner midle doesnt really help with dancing. For a good multipurpose board thats a bit lower to the ground and a bit more solid, i would reccomend dervish

the vanguard has more flex, but the dervish is built for faster riding. I would recommend the vanguard for all around riding, but the dervish is better for downhill/speed

Depends on how flexy you want your board to be. I'm like 5'10" and like 140 lbs. I ride a vanguard flex 4 and its pretty flexy. my friend who weighs like 220 can ride my board and have it nearly bottom out while standing in the middle. So flex 3 should work for you, but it would be really flexy. I'd go with a 1 to be really safe, and a 2 if you want it to have flex, but fairly safe flex.

Pumping is pretty simple. Just think of pumping as half-assed, tight, and quick turns. All you have to do is quickly initiate a turn with most of your body weight and momentum. Only turn for about an inch and do it on your toeside edge. You should feel yourself excelerating aas you do this.

my description isn't the best, but it should at least help. It should also come quite naturally to anybody who has ever been on a longboard.

I'm 6'6". Most skaters are somewhere around 5'9" - 6'.Find me a skate to scale. I'll bet it'll be a longboard.

I'm definitely not as smooth as this guy, but I can certainly do (technically) everything he's doing here.

The point here (as mentioned in another comment) was that people don't see longboards with viable aggressive potential, which is really too bad, cause it looks damn well impressive watching someone hop up a 4 set, and land in a manual, on a longboard.

Lots of decks that are for all intents and purposes longboards on account of their size and wheelbase are designed to be usable in parks and bowls as well. The Loaded Fish and some of the blunt Arbor decks come to mind. Then you have the big-ass dancer decks - any preteen punk-wannabe dickhead is going to pull off a simple ollie, I'd like to see any of them try to do a nose manual on a 60" dancer with a quarter of Adam^2s finesse without eating asphalt.
