this is not fair at all. Please someone help. I lost my Event pan crop tool!!!! Idk what happened but its gone. I try to click the little button like he showed. Nothing happens. I try to right click and choose the tool but nothing happens!!! IT WORKED BEFORE!!! and now it doesnt. Please. Pleaseeeeeee help.

Bill, I'll be SO GLAD if you can share your thoughts on this. I've been trying to figure this out for hours now but couldn't...pan/crop works fine but when I try to move my watermark to all the way right or left my watermark disappears like it is going behind another layer(kind of it is going behind letterbox..it shouldn't though because both my recorded video and project setting are set to 1280x720 so in reality there is no letterbox there..why is this happening??any ideas? btw, no lost window.

forgot to mention..on pan/crop window the box area ends on those borders which my watermark starts to disappear on left and right..it's like box doesn't recognize those left and right sections of my video screen..when I pass the box borders it seems like the watermark slides underneath another layer..I'm creating these videos for a product so I'll really appreciate if you can assist Bill..Thx

@PostalGuy89 Scenes turn black if the required video codec is missing or invalid. This can happen with avi files that are not really avi, divx and xvid compressed video, and mov/mp4 videos where the latest itunes quicktime update is not backward compatible with the mov/mp4 file you use.

Note: 99% of the problems I answer regarding vegas have to do with non compatible mov/mp4 files.

let's say you wanted to do exactly as you did, where you have a different video being played inside another video (just exactly as you did). Now, lets say the video that is inside or tinier (the driving video) you wanted to zoom in on it without making the actual image become bigger or smaller?

@aylictal sorry, what i meant to say at the end is how do you zoom in on the image that is inside the television, while KEEPING the image of that television the same size? Basically my problem is that when i try to zoom in on that driving picture, it starts to overcome the television set, and i don't want that. i simply want the image to start zooming without it becoming bigger and overlapping the television set on the outside.

@KattenJonsson You can't pan and crop across multiple clips as each will have its own pan & crop control.

But you can use track motion to pan across several clips or an entire video track.

@SloWovies Previewing real time video effects is CPU and RAM intensive. So when your computer doesn't have enough power, the preview window lags.

When you render the video, there won't be any lag.

To eliminate lagging in the preview window, get a more powerful computer, more ram, better video card. Something like i&-820 processor, 12 gig of Ram, Windows 7 64 bit, 1024meg video card - around $800.

I'm having the same problem as "seafome1"; my video overlays are being cut off in at the edges when I'm making a movie for widescreen format. I have tried setting the project properties to the correct aspect ratio, then selecting "Match Output Aspect", but it still crops the text at the edges. Any chance of help?

@TamiyaGuy123 Set the project properties before you add any text elements or add any overlays or apply pan & crop effects. If you fail to do this first, the effects and text won't fill the screen.

PLEEEEEEEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!! My video overlays are being cut off on the edges while I make a movie in sony vergas movie studio (all versions, hd, hd platinum, and the regular version (ive used all of them). I was told to uncheck the stretch video to fill output frame size (do not lettterbox) when rendering the movie, but it doesnt change anything! Do you know how to fix this?

@seafome1 Set your project properties to match the output aspect ratio you will render to. Then on all overlays, use pan & crop, and right click in the pan & crop window, and select 'match output aspect ratio'.

I usually use pan/crop for making widescreen and get rid of the subtittles but right now when I do that I keep having a black space and when I try to make it disappear the the video what I want to make widescreen without subtittles becomes smaller.

Then click pan & crop, right click and select 'match output aspect'. This will crop the image so it is widescreen

i got a problem with extending my clips to faster or slower, some of the texture turn black, and it kinda ruins it, you know, when i try to edit out a clip bu cutting things out, i hold ctrl, it makes it go faster or slower, every time i do that, after it renders, it turns completely black

Hi Bill! I just left a comment regarding a pan crop problem and after a year of having to reinstall vegas over and over again because of it, I found out the answer from a very helpful person on youtube - resize your desktop or minimize your task bar. The event pan/crop window pops up at the very bottom. It may be one of the solutions to this event/ pan crop dilemma.

In the pan & crop window, make sure the 'move freely' icon is chosen. Then set keyframes, zoom and pan, then add another keyframe, & repeat.

If the preview window is blank when you have your mouse pointer on a section of video, it almost always means the video was encoded with a codec not on your computer.

This is common with videos from cell phones, digital cameras, flip cameras, and videos encoded with divx or xvid.

Also common with some .mov and mp4 videos.

To solve problem, find the codec used by the video, and install it on your computer.

If a window doesn't open, it means pan & crop is docked behind or attached to a window within sony Movie Studio.

Close some of the effect windows to find it.

Don't worry, I found a solution, I enabled the option which shows the Windows taskbar only when the mouse is positioned on it (if it isn't on it, then the taskbar dissapears), then I could find the Pan & Crop window and move it.

Sony Movie Studio doesn't have a file size limit. I've edited many files that are 10gig and larger.

If there is a limit, it might be in the camcorder which records to hard disk.

Yes, it is the SR-7's 2GB limit that I am struggling with. I am sorry i made it sound like Movie Studio had the 2GB limit. It is the camcorder that breaks it up after a 2GB limit. I figured that sliding them next to each other would work... but i was wrong.

Thanks for your videos Bill. I have a question you may be able to answer. I have a Sony HDR-SR7 and I have Sony's Vegas Movie Studio Platinum. I would love to devote tons of time to video editing and the like, but i am forced to remain a once-in-a-blue-moon tinkerer. I shot video footage of a wedding this past weekend. I went to make a DVD using DVD Architect and I had problems with a file that would not let me save my project....

The Sony HDR-SR7 records in AVCHD mode. You'll need to bring those files into Movie Studio Platinum first, then render to avi using ntsc dv template.

You can join multiple files by bringing them onto the timeline, and sliding them next to each other.

Or let them overlap about 15 frames to get a nice dissolve from clip to clip
