@harkeill Since I heard about Hawken, I've been interested in what the other free to play mmo mech fps's would be like. Mech Warrior was the first thing that came to my mind. And from what I see, Mech Warrior doesn't really have action gameplay. The only "action" I see is a bunch of guns firing. If you enjoy just trigger-happy shooters with no real strategy, why don't you go play Call of Duty or something?

@anonymousdev1l Hawken takes inspiration from both human-based shooters and mech-based ones. I wouldn't say it takes inspiration from Tribes, Global Agenda, or Firefall, since they're coming out at around the same time. And yes, they all have jetpacks, but Hawken's jetpack system is mainly to counterbalance its slightly more clumsy mech controls. Instead of ammo, its weapons are limited by overheat. It's designed to feel both like a simulated mech game and a human-based shooter.

Mech wars is a good concept with poor execution. To make me buy this game:
1- Make mechs less clumsy. Sometimes I felt like a big chunk of metal crap playing the other MW games.
2- Make the game more tactical. I see you, you see me... and that is it? just shoot-all-u-have? we do have brains you know? we like to use them sometimes ;)
3- Make mech-girl-alike with huge boobs that fire lasers. Just kidding... or am I??
@valleproductions 1. The Battletech universe isn't about high-speed anime-style robots, it's about BattleMechs. A little more fluidity might be nice, but you're MEANT to feel heavy and powerful.
2. That pilot was an idiot. He had a faster Mech than his opponent but lighter armour. He had powerful weapons, but he played to his opponent's strengths by standing and fighting head-on. He should have flanked. Tactical approach is important. I could've taken an Atlas there. Also, heat?

The movement & firing system in mechs is way to hard. I would like the movement & firing system from other FPS such as Call of Duty.
2. Flanking an enemy is not possible in multiplayer. It is just fighting head-on and care enough not to overheat.
@valleproductions 1. Normal FPS games have elements to their shooting that doesn't work for Mechs. Doing FPS controls would be an oversimplification. Finding a middle ground between the two extremes would probably work though.
2. In 1 vs. 1 with a Mech 20 tons lighter than your opponent's and an urban environment, flanking is totally viable. Particularly when your opponent is an Atlas. Heavy vs. Assault should rarely have to go head to head. I never did in MW2 or MW3 except open areas.
@valleproductions Flanking is possible, but usually happen when player use medium or light mech with gauss rifle against slow mech. I think that Warhammer in this video is heavy class and has 2 PPCs, but it isn't fast enough to flank Atlas.
1. because that's the closest how a bipedal mech will walk, shoot, etc. you can't slide and roll in a mech which it's movement controlled with hydraulics
2. oh because it's heavy (70 ton) vs assault (100 ton). they have firepower but lack of maneuverability, especially the big Atlas. if you want a fast movers, look for light and medium class. but they lack of firepower and maybe armor
3. with a laser cannon and missile pod attached on it? cool.

I honestly find Hawken more beautiful, what's funny though is that it's been developed by a small indie team. Their work on graphics really withstand the work of massive teams with a big budget to spend which is kinda impressive.

THIS is gonna "KICK-YOUR-ASSSS" Yeah, for anyone who got that it's from Robot Jox. Yeah, I'm not a kid so I remember watching stuff like that. Now, since Front Mission Evolved "makes my drink taste like blood" I have some hope left for this title.
One of the most slowest pace and boring fights I have ever seen can't imagine gameplay being any better. Run in straight lines and half way hidden in cover. Please you'd do more help just blowing up your own nuclear core.

Thee drone shows the atlas walking down the street. You can SEE half of the atlas as it walks out into the street while its other half is covered by smoke and last but not least this stupid pilot can actually gawk at the atlas when its in his face.
It always pisses me off on how in almost every Mechwarrior trailer I watch, The first-person view person has like the most useless weapons and always ends up in an ambush

@YaBaDji in the fiction, mankind goes through a bit of a rough several hundred years where they fight a bunch but don't really invent much new stuff. So the order of the millenia is giant mechs and lotsa warmaking :)
Is it just me or should a nearly point blank hit from the Warhammers Particle Beam Cannon have detonated the missile rack on the front of the other Mech?
As much as I'm looking forward to this game (hasn't been a MW worth playing since MW2), both those mech pilots were just rubbish. ...egt some distance, use the cover more? And as bartkusa says, what's the point of an ejection system which lands you above a mech seconds from going critical? That could use some tuning.

I'm not sure the Atlas can fire all those missiles after eating two shots of ACP. This would increase the heat like Hell ... except if the pilot is sure of bringing his foe down with this shot, then he can take the risk of a reactor shutdown ... Damn ! @mikeiona This new game is supposed to use a more realistic radar system where you can only see enemies that are not behind other objects. After the clan invasion in 3050 the active probe was put into use which let you see contacts through obstructions.
@frogjedi4 It was more to do with the fact Atlas always sneak up on people. Like in the MW3 Opening when it appears in front of the Thor out of nowhere. There's a few other examples... I think its Canon that a big tactic of Atlas pilots is to get as close as possible and then alpha strike the enemy, hence taking advantage of all that armor

Mechwarrior games are slightly slower paced and, even though it's an action game, the recipe for success is based more on strategy than reflexes. There have been other games like the one you're talking about and I will admit that it looks pretty good. However, there's a reason the MW series has been around so long and never really dies.
Also, the BattleTech Universe covers A LOT, including the type of combat presented in Hawken, and has been around far longer.
@mkkraze hawken is completely diff than MW at least the style of fighting, and they better not change it. true mechwarrior fans want mechwarrior style not hawken with what seems like no weapon customizations but classes, either way MW FTW!

I honestly find Hawken more beautiful, what's funny though is that it's been developed by a small indie team. Their work on graphics really withstand the work of massive teams with a big budget to spend which is kinda impressive.

Imagine an USA mech having a duel with a Japanese one in a multiplayer game, later teaming up to survive the Russian swarm. Then the ground shakes, and everyone points their guns towards the gigantic German walker (something like Mammoth MkII).

Ah, this is the stuff. Front Mission Evolved.. you killed the Japanese Mechwarrior for me (guess I'll play FM:1 and FM:GH) but this.. THIS is gonna "KICK-YOUR-ASSSS" Yeah, for anyone who got that it's from Robot Jox. Yeah, I'm not a kid so I remember watching stuff like that. Now, since Front Mission Evolved "makes my drink taste like blood" I have some hope left for this title.
PS: Front Mission is great, play the SNES games.

Thee drone shows the atlas walking down the street. You can SEE half of the atlas as it walks out into the street while its other half is covered by smoke and last but not least this stupid pilot can actually gawk at the atlas when its in his face.

As much as I'm looking forward to this game (hasn't been a MW worth playing since MW2), both those mech pilots were just rubbish. ...egt some distance, use the cover more? And as bartkusa says, what's the point of an ejection system which lands you above a mech seconds from going critical? That could use some tuning.
Apart from that, wetting myself in anticipation! XD

I'm not sure the Atlas can fire all those missiles after eating two shots of ACP. This would increase the heat like Hell ... except if the pilot is sure of bringing his foe down with this shot, then he can take the risk of a reactor shutdown ... Damn ! Now I want to play the board game again !!! Where are my buddies ? Oh crap, they're all married with children ... Then I'll play Mechawarrior with the children in some years !!!

@cirocar you mean a 2 year old trailer of yet to be created gameplay sucks? you can't be serious, the real game will definitely play much different then this, just look into some battletech, then again, some people can't handle modifying their weapon loadouts, and armor totals. or heat or.... etc.
i'm guessing you have seen the heavy class in hawken as well? does hawken have an even bigger brute to the heavy's? how fast are they with all that armor? landpigs are not always the mech of choice.

@mikeiona This new game is supposed to use a more realistic radar system where you can only see enemies that are not behind other objects. After the clan invasion in 3050 the active probe was put into use which let you see contacts through obstructions.

@frogjedi4 It was more to do with the fact Atlas always sneak up on people. Like in the MW3 Opening when it appears in front of the Thor out of nowhere. There's a few other examples... I think its Canon that a big tactic of Atlas pilots is to get as close as possible and then alpha strike the enemy, hence taking advantage of all that armor

Mechwarrior games are slightly slower paced and, even though it's an action game, the recipe for success is based more on strategy than reflexes. There have been other games like the one you're talking about and I will admit that it looks pretty good. However, there's a reason the MW series has been around so long and never really dies.
Also, the BattleTech Universe covers A LOT, including the type of combat presented in Hawken, and has been around far longer.
