hi, im a long time guitarrist and keyboardist, but I am now very interested in playing tenor sax, how long will it take me to play some simple melodies if I start taking classes this monday. I have all the time in the world to practice. Let me know, and please dont be mean, thank you. I really like this video, the sound of the tenor sax is so beautiful.
its rly easy to learn to play the sax. The hard part is learning the alternate key fingerings but since each note is only one more finger you need to put down its easy to pick up. You can just grab a teaching book and learn by yourself. I would try the Essential Technique series
Id say the hardest part is getting a good sound and maintaining the sound. Clear articulation, and control over your sound. Sax is "easy" because its just pushing buttons... OKAY... Now make it sound good.
@MetalHybrid Hey, just found this video and looking at the comments :) If you have 'all the time in the world' to practise, you'll be playing simple melodies within a couple of weeks. Tenor sax was the first ever instrument I picked up and I'd say it took me just over a month before I was playing full but simple tunes and that's with my ten minutes a day practising and inability to read music when I started.
and stop with the jaw movements you got to be a pro to do it nicely as myself. i got my own jazz band me being lead saxophonist/singer. you not so much
I totally disagree. Please ignore pinkyand brain1 comment we all know you did your thing.Everything was good and i couldnt help but realize you saved everyone the trouble of harmonizing the sax parts. Please keep the vids coming because i'm a new fan of yours.
O for anyone who didnt realize the harmony thing i was talking about. The alto part is a third up from the tenor part so the melody would be in thirds.
Alto mouthpieces don't work on tenor. It is proportionately incorrect and you end up sounding terrible. Like you do in the video.

That's the most horrendous thing I have ever heard. It almost sounds worse than the "Georgia" recording that sounded like Blackfoot.
