  • syperbe condacteur...caresse le perfecte musique...

  • what an amazing orchestra...

  • Compare Harnoncourt w. Chamber Orch. of Europe -- perfect tempi and a lot of excitement with a bare minimum of gestures. Too many conductors wave their arms around and get in the way of music.

  • see also video:revolution of beethoven-egmont

  • I have a recording of this piece being played BRILLIANTLY, but at a somewhat faster tempo, and it sounds incredible. I'm not sure what recording it is, which orchestra, who's conducting, etc. But if anyone knows where there's a faster version of this on YouTube I would be very grateful.

  • Furtwängler-genius.

  • Godlike interpretation.TY chatoyer17 for posting.

  • The best of all !

    Thanks

  • At 1:01 you feel that the piece is only beginning now and everything until this moment was some sort of introduction.

  • I think that this conducting of Egmont is THE most suitable to this musical masterpiece.Real depth and power!

  • YES! That is how you conduct Beethoven! Brilliant.

  • When Toscanini was asked who the greatest conductor was (other than himself, of course) it took a moment but he did ultimately blurt out "FURTWANGLER!"

  • @SatchmoSings -He did not like him,but had to admit that he was impressed with his greatness

  • I believe that the new Furtwangler is Maestro Gustavo Dudamel with regard to Beethoven. Just check out on youtube Eroica with the Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra. Intense.

  • @padredemishijos12 You are limiting both yourself and Dudamel by comparing him to Furtwangler; Dudamel, who isn't even 30, is the greatest conductor I've ever heard; the man's a genius; how he gets the young people of the SBYO to play "world class" is a wondrous miracle all by itself.

  • i cant wait to play this

  • @billyguns2 @iplongnin Guys why always everybody makes this compared to that..blalblabla.. It is all matter of taste.. Let everybody choose their style.. I listened to karajan's edition then I switched to celibidache and I thought that was what I look for..But again Furtwangler impressed me with the control over the orchestra is like it is one player..The master makes the perfect balance <3

  • Forget all the other conductors inclusive Celibidache when you want to experience real Beethoven.

THere is no other conductor who until now can equal Furtwängler in the breath of ther musical phrase.

  • The tension is palpable, he commands the orchestra , I love Beethoven and Furtwangler isnt always my first choice but on this occassion I want more of him!!

  • Glorious Timpani !!

  • Yes this is it! Furtwangler's inexplicable uniqueness - the profundity, the power, the nobility, the heat! Who said Karajan to be the greatest Beethoven conductor?

  • @iplongnin

"Who said Karajan to be the greatest Beethoven conductor?"

    Never thought it.

  • @Vendimi3 Those comments on the video of Karajan conducting Egmont Overture (watched it a year ago).

  • I love this so much, and I have played this before, and the piece is so freakin amazing :)

  • I have played this before, and it was a lot of fun to play. This piece is so intense, but it is so awesome :)

  • Questo signore l'ho conosciuto da pochi giorni, ma credo che sia il mio direttore preferito!!!

  • You know this is done right when the hairs stand up on your arms. Egmont is a living entity, a force of nature, made up of musical notes. In my opinion, one of the greatest & most powerful compositions ever written

  • that was really nice!

    nice intonation

  • Excellent! This is wat I like in Furtwängler's music. Depth, appropriate tempos everywhere (for me), huge dynamical contrasts, clear structure.

  • One of the greatest "Egmonts" I've ever heard, with real depth, nobility, and amazing structural awareness.

  • @billyguns2 what is structural awareness ? civil engineering ?

  • @Metalloys To be 100% precise: "..and amazing awareness of the musical structure." You must either be a non-musician or a real pain in the ass.

  • @Metalloys Shut up, no one has time for your pedantry.

  • @billyguns2 -I totally agree. His Beethoven and Brahms violin concertos with Menuhin are IMHO the best.

  • Wow - thanks for these Furtwängler uploads. Simply astonishing music making!!

  • Excelente!
