  • Does it work for the MacBook Pro

  • Omg am too scared to do that

  • wow I didn't know you had to do this? my mums iMac is just over 2 years and I Haven't seen any lint build up

  • scary

  • I wish I had an IMac :(....

  • @DetroitBORG Dose this void the warranty !?!?

  • So, if I don't do this, the screen will continue to be more foggier over time?

  • 2 people sprayed directly on the lcd screen and fucked it up :D

  • Thank you for this video.

I have the problem with trails from the cigarette smoke. Will this procedure help???

    Thank you!

  • well done!

  • could the apple store do this for you?

  • @itsmeKyle13 I'm sure they would prefer that, absolutely.

  • i would be terrified to do this

  • The glass is holding by magnets. Something only Apple can imagine.

  • What spray did you use to clean the glass?

  • @randomguyy It's called "Sprayway", it's a foaming glass cleaner, one of my favorite things in this world (neat-freak over here).

  • @DetroitBORG Can you use that spray on the front of the glass as well?

  • @DetroitBorg Is it the same magnet-style on the thunderbolt display?

  • @AMacProOwner Yes.

  • Do gps cups work 2?

  • @Y0UNGDAL88 Yes, many people use those cups.

  • @DetroitBORG There's a guy I know who sells iMacs at a low price do you think its worth getting one? PLEASE REPLY : )

  • @applemagnet633 iMacs are the best, I highly recommend it. My first apple comp. was my iMac 27" I have had no problems what so ever. Except for I need the inside glass cleaned which is how I found this video. I would question the fact that they are a low price they could be refurbished or fake.

  • help please...i remove my imac glass and i cleaned it as you did, with the apple cloth...but when my computer is shut down, the black screen doesn't look black at all ... there are prints of the cloth...what should i do ?

  • @GiannisGRChalkidiki I would clean it again with a lint-free cloth moistened with distilled water. Something must have smeared in there, either the cleaner or the cloth. If not, try alcohol wipes.

  • I highly recommend that you avoid this. Removing the glass and attempting to clean will only lead to more dust entering. I've done it.

  • @MyWideSpace I would avoid it unless you have a noticeable build-up, otherwise keep it shut.

  • I'm a bit tight on cash, could I use a toilet plunger instead?

  • @1247427 Possibly, if you're careful.

  • @DetroitBORG i think he was just trolling you

  • @1247427 You're tight on cash, but you own a Mac? Doesn't add up...

  • I did this my Mac glass broke

  • @gabriel102000 Sorry to hear that! I actually did this a dozen times for this video with no ill-effect.

  • man i want to thank you so much for these great videos :)

  • Good info thanks

  • good thing i don't need to do this on my desktop screen : o seams like a inconviniance

  • Rip Steve jobs

  • go apple uck mp3s

  • WOW. You rock dude.

  • Really great video, no one can do it better than you. @DetriotBORG

  • i would never do this my self ill take it to apple

  • First time seeing that. That's so awesome

  • Wow, I never would have guessed you could do that! How sweet.

  • @DetroitBORG You Mean iSight Camera

  • @TechManGuy1 the new iMacs don't have an iSight camera anymore. It's called the Facetime HD Camera I think.

  • What kind of cleaner do u use

  • Guy who disliked broke his panel ;)

  • Does it break warranty?

  • @Left4Fail

No of course not. Even changing the hard rive yourself won't break the warranty. And that requires removing the whole screen.

  • woow, its a pretty neat trick, although I wouldn't want to do it myself haha. Great video, please keep us posted with rumors or even the review of the iPhone 5

  • Thanx for this video. Great stuff!!

  • did you just use water for cleaning the LCD?

  • @cart2334 I use the same glass cleaner, but you could use water...you just don't want to use any harsh cleaners.

  • Wait it looks like one of your iMacs is going to fall from the table why dont you give it to me and you wont have to worry about it (:

  • Was the inside dirty?

  • @ReezeAc No, only the glass seems to attract the soot.

  • excellent 'how to' - straight to the point. Thanks

  • You make very professional videos. Keep it up

  • @MrMoslehChowdhury Thanks!

  • Apple should make their own suction cup.....

  • @PhilipGreger I think that would be pushing it ;)

  • I didn't know that there would ever be a problem with lint, dust and other contaminants back there. Great video showing how to keep it cleaned up...

  • @slyguyaction Awesome! I love Sprayway, I buy cases of it when they appear at Costco.

  • Hey Guys please check out my channel I have unboxings Tech reviews and stuff and I am very much grateful to DetroitBORG

  • Magnets eh? Who would have thunk...

  • Cool Video

  • Why you don't sell your old iMac

  • @Razanmi It has been sold, those were some stock shots I took earlier. I actually bought the suction cup to clean the older one.

  • Very well done Mike. Many iMac users will now dare to do this by themselves. Apple should have done a support video like this! Awesome.

  • @dirckxd Hopefully that doesn't lead to problems for Apple ;)

  • i know i would brake something.

  • that look pretty easy :D thank you !

  • When u take the LCD panel out in reminds me of s unibody iMac

  • @Thebartbuddies12 This is a unibody iMac, the only way to access the components of the computer (beyond the RAM slots) is through the screen.

  • Pretty simple. Good Video @detroitborg

  • @productfeedback Thanks!

  • @DetroitBORG even i dont have anythings from Apple except from ipad but ive seen almost all of ur vdos and im gonna continue doing tht..sorry bout my eng ^^

  • nice video

  • Wow! I never knew you could do this. Very cool. Thank you.

  • now that is one squeaky clean monitor panel!

  • shit, this looks dangerous

  • @handsome2302 Nah, this is the safe part, it gets more scary f you have to remove that LCD panel to work on the computer.

  • nossa!!! otimo!

  • I was thinking about doing this, when i toke mine in for repair they did not do a very good job, when i got the imac back there was dust and finger prints underneath the glass so i toke it back and complained, they did it again and gave me a 10% off voucher for anything :), however there is still a few specks underneath which are annoying me...

  • That is quite interesting, never would have guessed it was held in that way. Wonder if the iPad screen will eventually get dirty

  • Great video as always. If only I had an iMac to put this into practice!

  • Cool video... had no idea you could do this.

  • Whats Damp on the Cloth just Water? or Glass Cleaner

    can Windex work too

  • @Gazooo29 I used the glass cleaner, but water will do as well. Windex is not streak free IMO ;)

  • @DetroitBORG Sprayway is awesome! I bought some after seeing this vid and it is hands down the best glass cleaner I have ever used. Thanks for the tip!

  • @iillylabrat Isn't it great? I love that stuff!

  • is this really necessary? because my mom would never let me do this!!! :P

  • @najma50000 No, not at all, I only do this because the filmy streaks are annoying to me. These iMacs are heavy breathers as well and run hot, so this may not be necessary for all iMacs.

  • I've never seen this done before! Thank you for the demo! Thumbs up!

  • subscribing! that was awesome

  • magnes!

now i've got a lot stuff stick to my screen !

  • does this void the warranty? :O

  • @AngusNG12345 No, but this was never meant for the end user to do, they would prefer that you take it in for this cleaning...I don't think that's necessary in this case.

  • @DetroitBORG ohh okay :D

    thanks for the reply!

  • Hey, what can you NOT do? lol

  • I didn't even know it was held on with magnets!

  • thank you so much for the video... I shared it with every one I know who owns an iMac. Great tip!

  • my glass broke and i had to take it off but it got fixed now!

  • Does this work for the 21 inch to?

  • howcome when you do it, its spotless!

    mines not :(

  • That's great, thanks again Mike

  • Shit I broke it goddamned!

  • Very helpful video Mike!

  • Wow, great video :) Didn't even know you could do this!

  • Thank you for posting this video, I was wondering how I could do that =D

  • very very nice

  • Whoa, magnets?! Apple, that's strangely....accommodating of you! Allowing the consumer to be responsible for their own products (read: iPhone, iPod, unibody Macbook, etc...), whatever next!

  • i have taken the display off my cinema display a few months back to get a speck of dust away let me tell you a nightmare i ended up with more and more dust i eventually got it clean but ill just wait till it gets real dirty this time

  • cool

  • the best reviews as always!!

  • Every time I even try to put a screen protector on dust comes back 1 second after you clean it. I wouldnt dare to do this. I've got a MBP anyways so I'm all good

  • shit thats scary. seems like the glass is going to crack. nice vid

  • Damn that was so easy, thanks man

  • can you clean the front of the class? thanks

    please reply

  • well this work for a macbook?

  • @1TIDB no

  • I used a plunger

  • 1 person broke the glass as they took it out

  • I would find taking an iMac screen of TREMENDOUSLY FRIGHTENING!!:(:(

  • Nice video detroit.. could you please also show us how to config the new time machine capsule?

  • DetroitBord > SoldierKnowsBest + AppleGenius0921 + whole other reviewer...quality camera (no webcam shits), quality voice (no echo whatsoever), quality presentation and easy to understand...definitely the best Apple reviewer on the planet...but he's not worth on Engadget, he worth on Apple itself for sure :)

  • @anipz90 +1

  • @anipz90 you are absolutely correct! I Agreed!

  • interesting, didnt know you could do that!

  • You have 2 iMacs? What do you use both for

  • Cool

  • AMAZING.

  • great job

    :D

  • Nice !!!!!

  • intuitive video, I like how you make the process easy to understand covering all the aspects.

  • Not even SoldierKnowsBest knew how to do this

  • Holly Cow Man! I never would have figured you could do that :-)

  • WHAT!?!? I just tried this with my iMac, never thought it was possible. Now this is why I subscribe to detroitBORG

  • awesome

  • Great video bro, I didn't even know that you needed to do that every once in awhile. :-)

  • It's a shame that an expensive product like the iMac neet to receive this kind of maintenance by the end-user.... By the way, thanks for the review Mikael.

  • @DetroitBORG will this avoid your warranty?

  • Now that is a great and useful tip...thanks for sharing!

  • Will this work on all iMac's?

  • Your videos are so straight-forward ! :D

  • Wow. Awesome video!

  • holy shit i did not know u can do this

the ones on the macbook pro can pop off too??

  • @randomrazr No, just the iMac.

  • @DetroitBORG thats what i thought, great informative video as always detroitborg!

btw, after watching ur video on the speck seethru clear for ur air and macbook pro, i picked one up and LOVE IT. thanks so much for making that!

Do you takes urs off ur macbooks every month to be cleaned?

  • @DetroitBORG And on the Cinema or Thunderbolt Display.

  • @randomrazr can you do this on the macbook air as well or is the macbook air display too thin?

  • @gadgetboyash the macbook air doesnt have a glass panel??

  • @randomrazr no, they don't, the macbook pro screen is all one piece, including the glass, led display, and the aluminum casing. don't try to separate it because you will break it and void warranty...

  • @thatsnazzyappleguy hahaha ur name its like thatsnazzyiphonguy

  • I'd make sure to empty the good ol' bowels before taking this one on. Great video Mike!

  • Great video, as always.

  • I've had to do this for arcade machines before and I find it to be a really nerve wrecking job because if I were to drop the glass, I would have to replace it with that exact pacman or narc one which are VERY hard to find.

  • will this work on the mid 2010 macbook pro?

  • @incredablechris Yes, works with all the aluminum iMacs.

  • just watching even though i dont and cant afford a iMAC
