  • Hey Moses, sorry I had to repost this comment because something went wrong. I was just wondering, have you ever looked into Igbo? The reason i am asking is because I speak igbo but I do not speak Yoruba, and both languages are spoken in Nigeria. Do you know if Yoruba and Igbo are similar to eachother? I know the alphabet is the exact same but could both languages be similar to eachother, or not really?

  • After watching White American Titi (adopted yoruba name) Cara vids I think your accent is better eventho Titi had been to Nigeria. You both speak correct yoruba grammar.

  • @omoibile Nooooooo, Titi is definately fluent in Yoruba(injile yoruba ni Titi un so)..BUT Moses is a man of many languages so I'm not mad at him..o gbiyan ju.....they both inspire me as a yoruba man to learn CHINESE and SPANISH

  • @324seun : Yes, Titi have upgraded to another level.....lol.. But if you watched her first video, she wasn't as fluent as she is right now. I guess Moses or Ekute (don't know why he wants to be called rat...lol) will speak fluently if he stays a whole year in Nigeria. I commend his efforts because he is learning by himself unlike Titi Cara who learned ifrom university of Wisconsin later went on work & learning programme in University of Ibadan and in Lagos. The difference is clear.

  • Good job laoshu.

  • Languages are not that difficult to learn. You just need the right tools, and a lot of time to repeat, repeat, repeat.

An excellent free tool is VLC player. It allows you to repeat a selected part over and over.

Then find a friend that speaks your language, and also speaks the language you're learning. That way if you're stuck, he/she can help you out.

Finally, don't be ashamed to make mistakes. Let people laugh at you if they want to.

  • What resources did you use for Yoruba? Did you use a book? I've been searching for one, but the only books I've found have been for Swahili (TY, Living Language, etc). Searched online too, and I already know of of the websites in the links you posted in the Nigerian languages video.

  • Gbere o, omo Y'oba. Odua a gbe o.

  • How are liking Yoruba? I see you used the same book I used to. It is still up on google books limited view but most of the pages show, the audio is on Uz. High, low, medium and Rising I have no problem with, falling (actual falling tone, not going from high to low) is hard for me.

  • Actually someone posted up the whole book. cool. I'm going to try the immersion method this time. Mo pè padà di.

  • Are you around a lot of Yoruba speakers?

  • Just one that I talk to regularly. Facebook is a great resource, especially the groups. I have several Yoruba speakers on my friends list. This one sprinkles random Yoruba words and sayings into the conversation. Ironically, around the time we became friends I started focusing on another language.

  • omo naija delta le mi..

  • I see ! I don't often meet thai to practice the basics I learnt with pimsleur but today I went to a thai restaurant, and spoke a little thai ! I love it! I want to learn thai but I'll learn arabic first xD

  • Very cute language !!! Do you have some opportunities to practice it in real situation?

  • Not much. I run into Nigerians every once in a while..I have a good book with audio though which is very good.
