@preeyareg when you're learning something new. Your brain is going to try and use the patterns of movement that it knows already. You then have to work against those impulses. This "working against" the existing pattern is hard work for your muscles. But as the new pattern becomes stronger you use less and less energy to keep it going. You don't have to build stamina but rather practice at a pace where you don't need to use force to practice. Check out the posts on my website! :)
Everything you just said describes me in the past. This is expert advise and really shows how procrastination creeps up on you. You my friend are a genius.
Be careful which neighbors you tell that you won't be back for a while. Otherwise, not only is that "when we know that you're serious", but it's also when we know that your safe, guitars, and stash will be gone when you get home.
I wish I could get my students to understand this point, since it applies to all disciplines, whether swinging a golf club, practicing music or cutting dovetail joints.
Not that it matters, but you have an interesting accent I can't quite place: British mannerisms but with a little German precision-engineering thrown in...
I never understood why I have to PAY for knowledge. Knowledge isn't something that can have a price attributed to it. Really, passing on the knowledge so that others may find similar success should be reward enough.
Of course we all have to make a living, I understand that. But pricing knowledge always bothered me, especially with things like university and college costing astronomical amounts of money.
@MapleLeafAce I Suggest you visit the website. There are tons of knowledge for free. I have made more progress than ever by taking the knowledge there and making my own prctice programs. I haven't paid a dime for that. I might spend one or two inthe future, 'cause what he does is making programs to follow. That is timeconsuming, and I think by making those, the man has worked for his money. By laying his knowledge out for free, he has undoutly made a few points on his karma-card.
I took a chance and bought this training system - something that I normally never do - because I was impressed by your awesome free material. My review is this: IT WORKS. I'm not saying I instantly shredded like Yngwie in 3 days, but I'm improving WAY faster than I was, practice is more fun and playing feels easier than ever. All the stuff is very logical, but if you don't know all that, you won't be making optimal progress. That's my 2 cents, so thanks and keep making new products!
Too much ... over...Malmsteen licks on your video. Try MacAlpine,Howe,Moore... variant...But changed your pattern with others like Reb Beach,Frank Gambale.....
PURE BULLSH***T there are thousands of people in the world that play just as good...and compose waay better...but few are so Malmsteen wannabe as this guy!
the idea is to use your decision making process at a rate of around 20 decisions per second: "UP DOWN UP DOWN UP DOWN"... if you master that, you just need to build up the muscular tissue and ligaments in your arms within several years. simply keep on playing. its GREAT!!!!
One really must respect and admire the amount of time and effort you've spent in order to share your wisdom, that the rest of us might improve on our chosen instrument. All kidding aside, you are a class act my friend. Love your vids, will continue watching until you are done making them. :-)
@creepsomber Thank you, thank you, thank you. So nice of you to take the time to write that. I'm so happy you like it! Have a great weekend when it comes...
Having Sherilyn Fenn promise to give me a blow job every time I spend at least an hour a day practicing would be a fantastic way to ensure that practice is fun, rewarding, and.....um.....good. Kidding aside, you're absolutely right about the idea of the futility of making "future decisions" as it is truly a mental abstraction, but one that unfortunately appears "real". It's probably the biggest dream-killer there is.
@wizardofshred Funny , but trust yourself .You are a great player and very clear teacher and I truly dig how you preface your approach with REAL truth about reality , energy and the power and pitfalls of the mind. That awareness already stands alone above and beyond any other teaching methods I've seen. Run with that.I wish you much success!
i started playing when i was 20 and now i m 22 and i just broke the speed barrier with a 4 note pattren 2 days back. i am personally inspired from paul gilbert's work and it has always been in my mindset to play shred licks and it does help to BELIEVE that u can do it and PLAN YOUR WAY UP THE LADDER...
Kindly tell if u go from easier licks in the program to tougher ones coz i would like to learn some stuff that someone like me should play to improve.
so....ive been practicing alternate picking with a metronome for a year and a half now, anywhere from 1-4 hours a day. and ive been stuck on triplets at 132 BPM for 8 months now, everytime i try to go faster i get sloppy. Ive made the decision, but i sure as hell havent mastered it yet :?
You need a new strategy that will get you over the hill. You can give up, which is the same as making a new decision about not deciding anymore :) Or you can stick with your decision and try something else. The road you are on now doesn't seem to lead you to the place you want to go. Take another road. Choose another strategt when you practice. If this program doesn't put you way over that hill in four weeks, I'll refund you your money and you can keep that program. That's a personal guarantee..
What holds you back is most likely a way of picking that works great at "slower" level but that has it's limits. Practicing something slow has a build in danger: Playing slow requires different movements than picking fast. But when we practice slow we most often use movements that are of no use to us when we approach warp speed. The key is to practice slow but to move your hand as if you where playing fast. It should look more like slow motion than anything else... Thanks for commenting
yeah, but the thing is i cant get the motions for playing fast in the first place, i just cant get my hand to move that fast and that accurately, ive been stuck at 132, ive tried so many things, i tried "the metronome game" that i think you came up with, the problem it is takes up 4 hours a day and on one lick, so i have to set aside everything else i practice and just dont have that kind of time on my hands every day.
id like to know a little more about what it involves, the metronome game did not work for me, dont get me wrong i know you can tear it up like its nothing but id like to know a tiny bit more about what the program involves.
It's hard for me to give you more information than what's in the videos you saw. Did you see the 40 $ option? I could send you some testamonials from other people who bought the program. If you write to me using the mail form on my website.
Your philosophy guides your actions and therefore your results. what goes on in your head is the reason for everything you do and everything you get. So if you're lucky to have the right philosophy you'll probably get some pretty good results. And people will then say the magic words "You must have some kind of special talent" but talent is an effective philosophy, nothing more. In my experience... I hope that makes some kind of sense.
Great presentation. You sound like Brian Tracey and others. Great skills too!I see that you scalloped a squire neclk. Is this true ? Are you using a Marshall ?
Thanks! Yes I scalloped a Squier Deluxe and put in a couple of Dimarzio Red velvets and a Chopper. I'm using a Marshall MG 15 watt amp. Great setup, I really enjoy the sound and the response I get from the instrument. thanks for commenting!
Unlike the last guy posting I actually appreciate your cerebral approach to the subject. Does the course include economy picking as well or strictly alternate?
Very few things in this world are as beautiful and expressive as a womans face. What they have to do with playing guitar? Well... perhaps very little. but to me they belong to the same area of life. "Passion" I guess would be the right word...
Yes. All the girls on my website are my girlfriends. Once you arrive at shred heaven there'll be girls every where. It's amazing. I highly recommend it.
Good advice! Not just for guitar but life in general.Dreams can become real, but only with hard work. And hard work without direction not gonna make dreams real.
You're right. If you're running east, looking for a sunset, you won't succeed no matter how hard you persist or how fast you run. Effort is needed, but effort without strategy wont work : )
Funny thing is I've been doing that again as of recently. Originally, 7 hours a day every day is what led 2 my tendonitis incident years ago. Lately its 4 hours here, 8 hours there almost every day with no breaks but I know I'm not practicing effectively, my guitar set-ups a beeotch and more importantly I know my picking techniques are done with too much effort. I'm slowly working out the kinks but its causing more problems and frustrations it seems. But I will "win"...or level up...lol.
The only thing it takes it not giving up. Everyone who didn't learn it gave up. And everyone who did, didn't : ) If you have the focus and persistence to practice that much, you've got what it takes. But it's like watching the grass grow in the beginning. But suddenly your development explodes and you can't believe how fast you're getting better. Most people give up just before that happens though. Thanks for commenting
Yeah...its like Christmas when you reach that next plateau just to have to repeat the same vicious cycle that becomes more and more difficult as you progress.
Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't change my skills for the worldbut sometimes it can be such a trying relationship in every possible form (i.e. emotional, physical, psychological, spirtual...you name it.)
Like my site says "Unlock the voice of your soul."...but our souls constantly change or we begin to lose touch, in my opinion.
You speak truth brother...I use to have that mentality and got so much better over that period of time. But the dedication slowly faded with the roadblocks and discouraging times, like seeing talented musicians who waste away and talk a big game but never seem to put towards the effort, no matter what I said or did.
"You only have 1 life"
Thanx for the motivation. Sometimes shredders don't need more exercises, licks, riffs or anything physical. Words of wisdom can go a long way.
I thank you for the compliment. But my experience is another. Everything was hard for me. I got no breaks at all. I felt like I was the least talented person on the planet. But when I started using my brain to figure out how to learn more effectively, I got a lot better results though. Check out my website and read the "Get more out of practice" articles. They're free
