  • Louisa is a DUMBASS

  • great job trying to win him over. it was all going fine till u had to mention lady russell. i mean really! have some sense!

  • wasn't jumping once enough? i mean he's super cute and i get you want him to hug you and all but damn get his attention another way thats not so annoying

  • In many ways, our lives probably would be like an Austen novel. To our benefit, we have the ability to observe their lives from the outside. They did not. I wonder what others would see or think if they had the same ability to see our lives?

  • When Mr. Elliot was checking out Anne, Captain Wentworth was looking like " Oh you better not be checking out my girl!"

  • Makes you wonder if he heard her!! Never liked Mr. Elliot; always thought of him as FAKE!! I dont like the fall part in this one; they would have moved her after the fall to wherever. If he is upset about her giving in SOO quickly its because; she just wanted her to shut up!!

  • In the book Mary wasn't TOO bad but in the movie...ugh she reminds me of Miss.Bates in Emma (Gwyneth Paltrow)

  • @kennyg9898 ... The same actress that played Miss Bates in Emma 1996 played the part of Mary in Persuasion 1995 and executed both parts with remarkable percision.

  • @bella50008 really? that's cool i guess.

  • Hahahahaha when she fell.

  • that woman is a manipulative person... she stayed because the house is fancy.

  • LOUISA LOUISA!! SPLAT ahahaha i cant help but laugh

  • Catch me! *fail* lol

  • yeah stupid girl that is what you get for being an idiot!!

  • for goodness' sake Mary, SHUT UP!!!! Anne would be a much better nurse than you and you know it. Stop being selfish and attention-seeking.

  • @Charlotte2791 I know Anne would have been!! She wanted to stay cause of jealousy!!

  • ummm its kinda windy!!

  • That awkward moment when you just can't stop watching this movie :))

  • "All the privilege I claim for my own sex (it is not a very enviable one, you need not covet it) is that of loving longest, when existence, or when all hope is gone."

    ------- Jane Austen, Persuasion

  • i like how people keep describing this dashing Captain Wentworth as YUMMY! haha it is absolutely true. He is YUMMY!

  • I was rewatching that "funny" jumping scene over and over and STILL don't get how she could have landed on her...head! o.O?

  • @angelbunny225 I'm doing the same thing. Although I always picture her jumping spread eagle. lol

  • maybe that fall kocked some sense into her :/ one can hope

  • Awww... to be loved by a man who loves you for being capable, smart, virtuous, and not for looks/body. No wonder women love Jane Austen's heros! That's why Persuasion is my favorite book. Wentworth not only never stopped loving Anne, but he loves her for her brain!

  • LOL the people in this are so clumsy! soooooo funny

  • I must say the guy who plays Captain Benwick is somewhat attractive.

  • LOL "Louisa, no!" *pitiful scream* *splat* i love it! replayed it over and over again. :)

  • Louisa, I could watch you hit your head over and over :) Oh I am so very evil. No but serously, she was really getting on my nerves. O.O

  • @34RiverStone lol

  • @mjloca...WOW...I have seen this over and over and never noticed that!

  • why does it seem like Anne has medical knowledge? lol. in the book she just seemed nurturing

  • She should of jumped higher.

  • She deserved to hit her head, the shameless flirt. She just said things she knew Wentworth said he liked in a lady.

  • I hate Anne's hair style

  • why does mary act so strange? anyone know?

  • @masqueball she´s just attention seeking. probably something she didn´t get enough of when she was a child. who knows? i like her^^

  • i love all the things they add to the movie, but i hated the part where she said that about "woman love the longest when all hope is gone" it would have been nice if he had listened to that...even so i love the movie is my second time watching it within a week!!!

  • hahah Louisa is so stupid!!

  • Ok, am I evil for being happy when Louisa splatters? She was getting on my last nerve!

  • I just got through watching Emma and I didn't think anything could top Emma, I really love the different feel of this movie. I love Captain Wentworth, yummy! He's so different than the other Austen princes. I also love reading the comments :D

  • oops, just seen a small mistake: at 3:34 Anne is already sitting at the table and then we see her enter the room again :(

  • Sir William Elliot: Creep Extraordinaire

  • I wish my life was like a Jane Austen novel .... *sigh*

  • พักหนึ่งวัน ดูถึงตอนนี้แล้วนะฮ๊าฟ

  • พักหนึ่งวัน ดูถึงตอนนี้แล้วนะฮ๊าฟ

  • "you dislike Bath most heartily, as i recall"

for me, it's the small things. after all those years & heart break, he still remembers something as small as that. :) gets me all the time...

  • Ok jumping once is ok but jumping twice at a higher area and him being more then a arms length away is just plain old stupid! And Captain Wentworth sure dislikes Lady Russell! Actually I kinda do to...

  • 5:14 if only Captain Wentworth would look at me like that....

    *swoon*

  • OMG she jumped. What a dumb bitch.

  • Are they never gonna talk?!

  • He depends on a great deal on Ann's wisdom. Though not obvious, I believe he was observing her & how she dealt with matters.

  • what the hell is brutus doing here? Oo

  • what a glance of hope on 7.53! ))))) She is such a good girl, well maybe too humble.... She must be happy! Why all men are so peevish!?

  • That split second Capt. Wentworth looked at Anne and then looked away when she looked back at him gets to me every time! I have to replay it a couple of times before I can stop squealing like a child.

  • @dinovrsrobot what time is that :) i want to replay it too

  • @adizzy2005 2:00-2:20! Enjoyyyyy~ Hihi

  • bahaha the way Mr. Elliot is at first introduced i wouldn't be surprised if the story took a nasty turn and became a murder mystery. what a sketch.

  • @ shahilagh well I get u'r point but if u see it from a prudent point of view, to get engaged in the situation they were... U may say is love but is also being foolish, any parent in that time would have told u not to... He had not fortune and ( in the book) was overconfident which may have seen as imprudence or being rushed and they were both young so their love could have been just something of the moment and Anne although she broke the engagement still waited for him, in that case if he love

  • Wentworth at 6:10 thinks "Oh geez...great..."

  • 2:21 Aaww Hell no, someones making eyes at his woman :P

  • This is a terribly gloomy movie. And it pains me to see such an unattractive leading lady. Anne was supposed to be lovely, only lacking "bloom." Mary is hilarious! What a weirdo. The actress made her exceedingly quirky! Wentworth - hot.

  • Lord, this is a gloomy movie. Visually, I mean. Well, actually in all ways. Much prefer the book -- it pains me to see such an unatractive leading lady on film. Ugh! Anne was supposed to be lovely, lacking only "bloom." Wentworth...pretty hot, however.

  • @hank5168 Oh really, I think Sally Hawkins makes a lovely Anne.

  • @Googlemonkey8 I was afraid I was going to get yelled at about being mean for saying she was unattractive. Thanks for not yelling! I figured there must be others out there watching who think she's attractive because mine was the only nasty comment!

  • @hank5168 You were not being nasty, just expressing your opinion. I just have a soft spot for Sally Hawkins and see her as Anne Elliot. But the way they styled her hair does nothing for her face, it's kind of glued on her head and it makes her less attractive. She is acually not a bad looking gal:)

  • wow-the tension is a palpable thing between wentworth and anne...the staring...

  • I am still not sure why Mr. Eliot ( the cousin) makes such a strong play for Anne. If his hope is inheriting from his cousin ( Anne's father) and become a baronette, the biggest obsticle is the young woman who Anne's father might marry and produce an heir. Since we know that Mr. E( the cousin) intends to make that women his mistress anyway, WHY press the suite with Anne so hard?

  • @mrspopp123 Austen explains in the book that he actually does likes Anne, and only because Sir Walter wouldn't marry Mrs. Clay that doesn't mean he wouldn't meet another woman eventually. So his intentions were that it be written into their marriage contract that Sir Walter never re-marry.

  • LMAO what a moron "jump fail".

  • love the whole staring thing that's going on between Anne and Wentworth the whole time

  • How rubbish was her aim when she jumped!? The muppet.

  • @BubbleyBeck da prigalas!hahaaha

  • Mary is so strange Lol.

  • to me, what Anne feel is not love . it s just regret .. if she left him once before, she could leave him again too. this isnt love

  • @shahilagh It is regret for not listening to her heart. She regrets turning him into what he is today, and she regrets having harmed herself just as much, if not more so. There absolutely is love for him in her heart, and I don't doubt it at all. We all make mistakes, and we all have a point at which we wish to rectify those mistakes...her regret is a result of her love and for pushing it away rather than embracing it.

  • @DevouringSickness .. :) so why some ppl listen to their hearts and some dont? that s my point, Love is brave.

  • It's a mess he doesn't laugh a little more in the serie. He's so cute when he laugh at 0:10

  • What's the big deal? She played with him with jumping. Didnt any of you girl's play with your boyfriends and husbands during courtship? Examples piggy backs in public, lifting you up and swinging around, laughing, tickling each other etc etc.

Dont grudge the girl jumping and trying to be happy, yes it went a bit far, but she was just trying to have fun, were all entitled to that.

Bit of envy there with some i think.

  • @barnabyfraser I think what it is is that she jumped off of a clearly slippery wall when he was not expecting it. It was foolish, but what's more is that we're all rooting for Anne, so of course we'd feel a bit vindicated when her obvious competition was made an ass of.

  • @abeautifulnightsky Anne would of won over the Captain with or without the girl making an ass of herself anyway. But there are worse things in life than occasionally being an ass, especially when your young.

  • @barnabyfraser she made a totally full of herself, ladies had to behave more wise in those periods not like a full and childish girl

  • She really did jump like an idiot :D

  • 3:29 WENTWORTH: Who is that gentleman?

    (what he was really thinking)

Who is that gentleman..I'm gonna kick his ass..no one looks at my woman!

    haha

  • @kneekeytaRWD Good thinking! :))) any real man would think so in his place.

  • SO DEPRESSING. I HAVE TO GO WATCH EMMA NOW.

  • 6:27 do you notice how he looks disappointed ? as if, inside, he had wished they could stay together, with the excuse of taking care of Louisa...

  • @rythmbaby He wasn't going to stay in the first place... So I don't think that's what he meant with his facial expression..

  • 5:19 she's pressing his hand, he can't stop looking at her while the other girl is bleeding... that's what i'd call irremediable passion : can't stop touching, can't stop looking, nothing exists except the other, even when death's around

  • I just realized that the scene when Anne is taking care of Louisa is the first time we hear Captain Wentworth actually speak two words to Anne. He's stared at her, touched her, and directed his "firmness of character vs weak spirit" speech towards her. But there was no dialogue between these two until now.

  • So... watching this with one of my guy friend's was a bad idea. Louisa's batman impersonation has got him singing "I believe I can fly." And he won't shut up with it, either. :-/ I hate it when stupid girls jump off things and expect men in really tight trousers to catch them...

  • @LoserJinxedAndJaded So, you mean David Bowe?

  • @LoserJinxedAndJaded Yeah, I hate when that happens..

  • @LoserJinxedAndJaded My boyfriend stayed awake exactly two minutes in Emma. But it's still my fav<33

  • @LookinForMoon, I WISH my boyfriend would have fallen asleep... he spent the entire movie "Is that Gwyneth Paltrow? I think that's Gwyneth Paltrow! Oh, look that IS Gwyneth Paltrow! I didn't know Gwyneth Paltrow was English? Is Gwyneth Paltrow English? I don't think she's English. I think it's a fake. It's a good fake, though. That guy has a big pecker. He looks like my step dad, doesn't he look like my step dad? His peckers takin' over his face!" I was very close to killing him...

  • @LoserJinxedAndJaded Lol, that made me laugh so much!!!!!!!!! ahahahahahaha.

  • I love the little part at 2:13 when Anne turns to look at Wentworth and at the exact moment he turns away.

  • I know you can TELL he was listening!! I always thought Mary and Charles made a BAD couple; they fight a WHOLE lot in the book! At this point Benwick and Anne have alot in common; accept of course how they lost their love!! Their cousin is UGLY!!! I'm sorry no matter what u think of Louisa it was sad she fell and hit her head!!

  • Gotta love the open shirt 5:14

  • ''catch me'' oh well i have to admit that i laughed a bit when she got hurt ...

  • what a stupid thing to do..kapangalan q pa nmn.. ;o)

  • " Is that we love longest when all hope is gone." Not so sure if she came up with it.

But if she (Jane Austen) did. Big Respect. :)

  • @Honoracharity18 She certainly made it famous, not sure if she was the first to quote it though, but many have quoted it since.

I'm also not sure that i agree with her either, men in history have loved just as much when all hope has gone. Infact some of both sexes have.

  • @FellowTownsman

Well said. I respect my sex and love this movie too much to ruin it for others. So, all the best, guy:)

  • oh! come on!!!

  • 'do you think he had the Elliot countenance?' says Mary with an eager grin on her face, she sounds so dopey...i think her and Charles make a good (yet odd) couple

  • Louisa is dumb!!

  • @blubryfields4evr ... yes, very

  • You know what, there are many books that are knee-slappingly funny or overly sentimental - but there are few that make you smile, fewer still that gently unleashes one single tear...Jane Austen's are amongst them.

  • wish she would stop being annoying

  • Is Louisa stupid?

  • @Hinzmana yes! very!!

  • there is so much TENSION in this movie

  • I think the woman who plays Mary did a really good job.

  • @bhanshee75 I really think so too.. I don't like the character and the actress in the movie did a great job in portraying her insecurity

  • @OneHindo Lol. She also did a good job of being annoying... Or maybe she wasn't acting for that part? ;)

  • @bhanshee75 lol I totally agree! and yeah maybe she wasn't haha!

  • "When they came to the steps.. a gentleman.. stopped to give them way. They ascended and passed him; and as they passed, Anne's face caught his eye, and he looked at her with a degree of earnest admiration.. Captain Wentworth looked round at her instantly in a way which shewed his noticing of it . He gave her a momentary glance, - a glance of brightness, which seemed to say, 'That man is struck with you, - and even I, at this moment, see something like Anne Elliot again.'"

  • I know it's very inappropriate but i can't stand laughing every time i see it. *Screams* and BANG, it's bloody hilarious!! how stupid is she really? ;-D

  • @bogi18, I can' help but laughing either! We had to watch this in class a few years back, and one of the boys in the back when she jumped went, "Weee! Oh, shit!" then made a splat sound a pitiful screech sound. I think of it every time I see this movie. It's hysterical.

  • How can people be so stupid? Talking about that girl who jumped from a 2 meters high stair down onto a STONE road.. don't know what that is called in english (norwegian: "molo", stops the waves from hitting the shore)

  • You see in Louisa's second jump, she jumped too far. The book explains (1) that she was a giddy girl looking for husb., she was like YOU'RE MY HERO...And (2) he'd nade his fortune. was wife shopping...he may have married her if things didn't happen that day. Re doctors: Apothecaries were reg. docs Medicine( and Surgeons did wounds. 1995 version makes more sense.

  • The fall must be a hard scene to do because in both versions of this movie it looks like he didn't really try to catch her.

  • Stupid girl! I'm glad she fell.

  • why is he so hootttttt ughhhhh

  • NOTE: Mr Elliot goes up the stairs, and then goes down... with no reason at all! :)

  • mary is still SO annoying

  • That captain Wentworth is such a prince charming...

  • hah he probably mised louisa on purpose just so he could be close to Ann

  • Wentworth looks absolutely bored to death listening to Mary complain.

  • "captain Wentworth catch me!! teehee"

    *jumps*

    FAIL.

  • @Utubenoob23 lmfao

  • what sort of weird motherfuckers just take walks right by the ocean this idiotic girl must have mad hops to jump over all of them

  • did you guys notice when anne's cousin was looking at anne and cpt wentworth was like what the hell are you looking at?, he turn around and kept looking at him.

  • @flipsyde336 yeah i was thinking ooooooooo and just imagined cpt wentworth like growling or something and saying mine! just by the way he stood over annes cousin lol

  • Is Anne the middle child?

  • @tinalovesanimals yes Ann is the middle child!

  • Why in the world did Louisa jump? She's kind of an idiot, no offense :)

  • ahhh the cravat is off... !

  • 4:47 LOOOOOOOOOL

  • she is so stupid

  • that was one hell of a jump

  • It was very funny the way she fell, i couldn't help but laugh:)))))))))

  • don't you notice that in almost every historical romantic period drama, the hero always gazes at the heroine is this longing way, sometimes with her knowing, sometimes not.....I just love the adoring gazes!!!

  • " Catch me, catch me!!" And he didnt :P Oops.

  • wtf is wrong with the suicide girl?????

  • HAHAHA louisa hahha

  • Jane's sister Mary is so irritatingly neurotic. I think I could put up with the other sister and the father easier than with her!

  • Captain Wentworth has gorgeous legs in his naval costume! So tall and handsome!

  • ha what a bimbo, "oh captain Wentworth, catch me. I am going to jump like a bloody idiot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

  • I get how Wentworth can't stand feeble-mindedness and whatever, but surely being damn foolish (such as throwing yourself head first off a wall) isn't high on his list of turn-ons either?

  • I also thought when I first watched that it doesn't look that bad, the height I mean, which she falls from but when I went to Lyme and walked on the Cobb I felt differently it is much higher then it looks and on a rainy day like that, very scary.

  • wentworth finds authority very sexy.

  • @Xx0Gwenn0xX, it was a touch creepy, actually. His expressions kind of like "Mmm. Head wounds."

  • I love the way Captain Wentworth looks at Ann when he sees her taking authority.

  • OMG luise is such an IDIOT its actually unreal !

my 2 year old sister seems more mature than her :S

  • srsly? i think that girl might be terminally stupid, who throws themselves head first from any height?

  • i love that second when she turns and he prtends he wasnt looking at her

  • @lollygibbons that is probably my most favorite scene in this entire movie!! so fast, but it means so much!!

  • maaannnnn....the scene in which louisa falls of was rather too fast..i would have liked there to be a moment of OMG SHE FELL in which everyone is just frozen...and then there comes anne!

  • Half the dialogue in this adaption comes in the form of a stray glance or a few bars on the piano. It's beautiful.

  • Wow, so much tension

  • Really, though. What on Earth was Louisa trying to do? If she was aiming to be caught, then maybe she should have jumped within the vicinity of Mr. Wentworth's arms. She wouldn't have been more off if she would have closed her eyes, spun around three times, and yelled 'polo'. Really? Was she aiming for Wentworth, the ocean, the beach, was she trying to fly? Louisa Musgrove. Proof that Red Bull DOES NOT give you wings.

  • @LoserJinxedAndJaded

I think she just got carried away with the romance, we're all capable of that when were young.

  • @LoserJinxedAndJaded

    OMG, I loved your response...LMAO!

  • @LoserJinxedAndJaded

Tell us how the scene could have been filmed better than this. Wentworth had to remain without fault, so it had to be young naive Luisa to fail to jump near him. With a big budget à la Spielberg they would have made it look better, of course.

  • It's funny at 2:30, when Mr. Elliot stares at Anne, Frederick stares back at him and he's like "What the F%#K are you looking at?!!! hahahaha

  • @Warilyn27 OMG LOL I just posted that comment a few minutes ago. deja vu'

  • 4:55-5:06 MADE ME FEEL SO MUCH BETTER.

  • 2:02-2:11 Oh my.
