hey a great video, i dont know ANYTHING about the recording stuff, and i want to record my drums, i have a kit of microphones (cheap), an alesis multimix usb 2.0 (comes with the cubase LE 4) and i read this in a blog, the gating and compression stuff, i really interested but my cubase dondt have in the dynamics menu the gate =( what can i do?
@joesoto007 Hi, its a shame but I am dropping video support for cubase as Logic Pro is taking up more time and has more interest. Im not familular with Cubase LE4 but I suspect if you search on google for a 'free vst compressor and gate' youll soon be sorted.
@2upendra How deep is a pond? I cant tell you the settings for the vocal you have recorded as it is opinion/taste and individual to the performance/style. Generally pop/rock vocals will be heavily compressed maybe 4:1 up to 9:1 ratio with around 6-8 dB reduction at highest. Jazz, acoustic would be a lower ratio and reduction with a soft knee. but it is all individual to the goal of the artist/producer and the performance of the vocal. Check your in box!
@Callmejohnnyboi because its listed as either Noise Gate or for what ever reason (whether you are running a crack copy or have accidently messed with some files) the Gate hase been deleted :(
Great Video. I really love how you explain in depth how the gate and compression works (this gives me a basic idea of what these terminologies like "attack, release, hold" do). I also love the visual example you use with microsoft word. Subscribed right away (it's rare to see someone articulates and clearly explains how these plug-ins work for novices like me). Thank you so much for being a great teacher! =)
im a newcomer please be gentle, this looks like cubase i plan to use logic so these are different programs but does "threshold" appear on logic ? if not then what is its equivilant? thanks
@keybox8 Hey no worries, everyone started there at some point! Ill in box you a video now...
everything is the say its just the Graphical User Interface that looks different, all the controls attack, release, knee, threshold etc are the same. Cheers for checking out the video.
