intresting that doing things via particles is the way things are done on the amiga for much "3d" graphics. It's just rfaster than polygons. It appears here they have adapted that to the pc, on the pc scale of particles.
@Polybun It is not really faster. It shares scalability problems with voxels. On top of that,the particles are rendered using pairs of triangles forming quads, these quads are then always oriented towards the screen. One significant problem is that the quads all have unique vertices, and cannot be reused, so the GPU's vertex cache is actually not used at all. And it shows: this demo is VERY slow on most cards.
@dvdv7777 I would think then the speed problem would be more attributed to graphics ram speed than lack of power on the part of the gpu. Also the CPU is calculating the vertices correct? So then there is the problem of moving data back and forth across the system buss right?
I quite agree. I never thought about it this way before, but polygon dominance is exactly why so much computer generated imagery looks so ugly - all those mashed together hard-edged pointy shapes. Nothing beats the soft beauty of a circle - or loads of really tiny circles.
is their grey lines in this demo or is it my video card?
i play this video and there are grey line, i play the benchmark demo on my pc and i see the same occation light grey lines as bright things leave the screen. Any clues folks?
lol, i agree i was WOW after my speakers started to rattle my floors by the awesome music start but after hearin that muddy male voice i had to turn down my vol. Btw video is gorgeous!
These guys even received some "special price" made up on the spot by some nvidia PR guy for "best disappropriation of nvidia GPUs". Was kinda heart-warming though... :-)
This per-pixel-rendering eats my computer alive - my 8800GT renders some single digit number of frames per second in this demo. I wonder what sort of GPU is needed to render it like in this movie. Fantastic (and original) production though. Good to see such quality productions still being released. Breakpoint's webcast was very entertaining too :>
@probbarn : couldn't agree more! Farbraush have lost the touch, great 3d, but since everyone is having babies with marching cubes these days, they have lost the race

Probably the most beautiful and artsy demo the demoscene has to offer.. absolutely love it!
It's a shame you need some alien hardware to run it decently :)

@laxmanstretch
The grey lines are part of the demo, not unintentional. Also, it's not a benchmark, it's a demo as in "demoscene"

eugenealive 1 year ago
@eugenealive
The music is just a remix of an old Socrates/Vangelit tune:
Vidoe ID = sqXpXmFDzF8
I think the remix is well executed, but the lack of a reference to the original is just plain lame.

Jesus christ guys, what are you talking about running this demo on a 8800 GTX/GT for?
This is Breakpoint 2010 -- yes, 2010, when did 8800 GTX hit the market? Oh, I believe it was 2006?
If you didn't know already, 8800 GTX is a piece of fucking shit by 2010, as plain and simple as that, single digit FPS rate? What else do you expect?

u dont neet the "ULTIMATE" gaphiccard .... a 8800 is enough ... but the time to render all this stuff needs more
but u can still make the same video ... a video without lagg ..
