hahahah i love how he admits that he thinks his supposed successors are "actually really really really nice" when we all know that there WILL NEVER BE SUCCESSORS TO LCD SOUNDSYSTEM!!
so to summarize, this is a video of him getting slapped repeatedly, talking about how he was 'there' and doing cool things in the past, then whining about how other people have more talent than him. with a lot of 'i'm losing my edge's, and a drum and synth track.
@OMGitsAshtonlawl it's self-deprecation, it's about when people his age can't chill out and have to take themselves too seriously, he clearly doesn't take himself too seriously. That's the sign of intelligence.
Err...no. It's simultaneously a satire of the culture of trying to be cool. The lengths people will go to by name dropping music in an attempt to stay ahead of the times, in an age where anyone can know anything instantly. And the fact that as he gets older, the things that he once had are no longer at the forefront of the zeitgeist. Funny thing is in doing this he refashioned the zeitgeist in his own image.
Captain Beefheart - 1965, Can - 1968, James Murphy - 1970 = joke
I can now say that I was there. On April 2nd 2011 in New York City when James Murphy stepped on stage for the last time with LCD Soundsystem. I was theeeeeeeeere!!!!!!!!!!
@AnIntangibleBadge You were there 6 weeks in the future???? You cannot make a statement on 15 Feb 2011 that says you did something on 2 April 2011. I call bullshit.
@holzmanj9 You call bullshit? Who's bullshit, a friend? Call on the phone or what? I can make any kind of statement that I want, who's stopping me? I will be there. Got the tickets. Live in NYC. Know how to get to the Garden. And in 6 weeks I will be there. Will you? And furthermore why in the fuck are you so uptight that you had to respond with that shit? Jealous?
@AnIntangibleBadge He's right, you could get hit by a bus tomorrow and die, making your claim that you were at the show invalid unless someone brings your corpse to MSG.
I heard that your friends are starting a band with my friends and my friends sold their guitars and bought keyboards and your friends sold their keyboards and bought a drumset and I sold my turntables and bought a microphone and a bass.
Agh! I love this song, but I have a kind of neck-cricking habit, which is probably bad, and this video kept making me want to. Bizarre and annoying DX<
But the song is fucking awesome. I loooove the lyrics. God, I love the lyrics.
LOL did it just cut off? Fuck, I love LCD Soundsystem.

@codyjdick Ah, but time can be considered as circular, so Darwin is really the coolest person since James Murphy was the coolest person since Darwin was the coolest person since James Murphy was the coolest person since Darwin was the coolest person since James Murphy was the coolest person since recursion.
Or your original comment could be correct, because there is no such thing (as much as there can be such a thing as 'no such thing') as a definite answer.

Bass players are stupid apparently. Yea Paul McCartney is really dumb. Any who, good shnazz I'll be listening.
Everybody stop complaining. Tastes in music are completely subjective - Some people love listening to pure noise, some people love nothing but classical, and some people love everything from speedcore, thrash, to dance, to folk. There's no BAD or GOOD music, it's all just music.
Also, I love the message this song conveys. Even if you don't like the music, just listen to what he's saying.
P.S. If you have an old Casio PT-20 from your childhood go put on the "disco" rhythm and sing along.
@dmc0053 he makes no attempt to hide his influences and this track in particular demonstrates that. I love Talking Heads and like this guy no less for it.

i could see how this could be catchy to some people but no way is this a top 20 song of the last decade.
He is ripping off david byrne big time in this song, and in "losing my friends" it sounds just like the killers. I honestly think a 12 year old made these beats on a $80 synth
thats cute, i'm sure its real easy to just dismiss it as me being musically ignorant. But when we get back to reality, its garbage.

It's really about how all these kids nowadays can go out and get a lifetime's worth of experience in music in about a week. They can see all those shows online (for free). They can read about and even interact personally with musicians who were pioneers in their genre.
Hey Margaux and Nigel, do you guys hang out together, or are you just the same bitter person? 'Cause if you are really are two people, you should date, and make each other miserable. Just an idea!

The lyrics of this "song" might have made a good short story. A record store clerk who takes being on the "cutting edge" so seriously that it becomes paranoia, even dementia.
As something to listen to, this track is an absolute piece of garbage.

The lyrics are genius and the whole atmosphere the loop creates is amazing.
It doesn't matter much if you like it or not. But if you don't, don't be an ass like you are now and fuck off without commenting,

I agree. Great lyrics.
It's really about how all these kids nowadays can go out and get a lifetime's worth of experience in music in about a week. They can see all those shows online (for free). They can read about and even interact personally with musicians who were pioneers in their genre.

Jesus christ, this isn't even music. Its someone talking over a few notes repeated over and over again. He isn't even fucking singing.

As something to listen to, this track is an absolute piece of garbage.

that might be your opinion, but i think it's a cool track.
