  • why isn't this in every magazine?

  • hahahah i love how he admits that he thinks his supposed successors are "actually really really really nice" when we all know that there WILL NEVER BE SUCCESSORS TO LCD SOUNDSYSTEM!!

  • so to summarize, this is a video of him getting slapped repeatedly, talking about how he was 'there' and doing cool things in the past, then whining about how other people have more talent than him. with a lot of 'i'm losing my edge's, and a drum and synth track.

    amirite?

  • @OMGitsAshtonlawl it's self-deprecation, it's about when people his age can't chill out and have to take themselves too seriously, he clearly doesn't take himself too seriously. That's the sign of intelligence.

  • @OMGitsAshtonlawl no youarerong lol

  • @OMGitsAshtonlawl

Err...no. It's simultaneously a satire of the culture of trying to be cool. The lengths people will go to by name dropping music in an attempt to stay ahead of the times, in an age where anyone can know anything instantly. And the fact that as he gets older, the things that he once had are no longer at the forefront of the zeitgeist. Funny thing is in doing this he refashioned the zeitgeist in his own image.

    Captain Beefheart - 1965, Can - 1968, James Murphy - 1970 = joke

  • the coolest man in the world is James Murphy.

  • this song performed live was absolutely massive when I saw it at their show at Metropolis in Montreal in summer 2010. SO MUCH LOVE FOR LCD.

  • This is mah shit!!!! I love this song.

  • I like the part where he gets smacked

  • I can now say that I was there. On April 2nd 2011 in New York City when James Murphy stepped on stage for the last time with LCD Soundsystem. I was theeeeeeeeere!!!!!!!!!!

  • @AnIntangibleBadge You were there 6 weeks in the future???? You cannot make a statement on 15 Feb 2011 that says you did something on 2 April 2011. I call bullshit.

  • @holzmanj9 You call bullshit? Who's bullshit, a friend? Call on the phone or what? I can make any kind of statement that I want, who's stopping me? I will be there. Got the tickets. Live in NYC. Know how to get to the Garden. And in 6 weeks I will be there. Will you? And furthermore why in the fuck are you so uptight that you had to respond with that shit? Jealous?

  • @AnIntangibleBadge He's right, you could get hit by a bus tomorrow and die, making your claim that you were at the show invalid unless someone brings your corpse to MSG.

  • @holzmanj9 I'm always 6 weeks in the future. (or at least)

  • reminds me of Talking Heads

  • @fpznKILLUMINATI2

    No, u.

  • @fpznKILLUMINATI2 and thats good or bad??...or maybe neither?

  • i was there

  • What happened to the end of the song? I watched this vid a couple weeks ago and it was the whole thing...!

  • Mark E Smith from the Fall anyone?

  • looks like he took so many lefts he begged for a right in this one. LOVE LCD!

  • what just happened???

  • 42 people wasn´t there.

  • i hate the new generation

  • I heard that your friends are starting a band with my friends and my friends sold their guitars and bought keyboards and your friends sold their keyboards and bought a drumset and I sold my turntables and bought a microphone and a bass.

    ...And we got LCD Soundsystem.

  • bahahahaha! this is the worst song ever!

  • @teedle1 This song is the shit!!!

  • @teedle1 On the contrary! Have you ever listened to your favourite song, for example?

  • LCD Soundsystem makes me wanna get drunk and think of what I could have been.....Had I not been me. (?1?)

  • That was actually disturbing.

  • im digging this LCD Soundsystem boy...

  • im digging this LCD soundsystem boy...

  • i love the irony of this song, that he got famous from making a song about how he was losing his edge

  • more like lcd downsyndrom

  • I'm looking for that song by LCD that goes "ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya, ya ya ya ya ya ya." What's it called, I can't find it. Anybody know?

  • Comment removed

  • @whiter123able that would be the song.... Yeah. :D

  • @whiter123able Yeah(Crass version)

  • I WAS THERE!!!!!!!

  • Murphy is an absolute maniac.

  • i imagine david bowe doing things of this nature if he was still making music

  • @skanknstein13 Murphy is very much influenced by David Bowie.

It's actually one of the reasons we hear him today. He shared this with his producer.

  • PUT THE TITLE AT THE END so they SAY

  • i heard you have a compilation of every good song ever done by everybody

    ahahahahahaha

  • Shit, The Dude Can Take A Beating!

  • mmh okay, a hitsingle

  • mantronix :(

  • i was wondering why he was moving his head like that. i guess i blinked whenever the hand was there.

  • turrets style head banging is exactly why i love you

  • 'i want to make something real, i want to make a yaz record', delicious mr. james murphy, still inspiring me. repost

  • I'm there

  • all the Modern Lovers tracks - great!

  • "I hear that you and your band have sold your guitars and baught turntables."

"I hear that you and your band have sold your turntables and baught guitars."

  • This song has another minute or so...

  • Um dos nomes mais criativos que usam a eletrônica. Apesar da idade do Murphy, o conteúdo não carrega aquele amargo típico de artistas do mesmo tempo.

  • saw you guys at reading ..... you were awesoomeee

  • Pretty colours :Q......

  • Just "discovered" this band, and wow do I love this guy. This is one of the funniest songs I've heard.

    But I was there.

  • Such hilariously sarcastic lyrics

  • i was there!

  • @0FinnJones0 WHAT A COINCIDENCE SO WAS HE!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Saw them in Dallas at Palladium...great show

  • I hope this wasn't in one long take... a very painful 3:23 haha.

  • @tomoyopop hahahah xDDD

  • dead good

  • now i wish it was the whole original!!

  • Wow!

  • Um yes there is.

  • cool song but this video is little painful to watch haha

  • just hear this on XMU - bad ass song!!!

  • This video shows the meeting between President Obama and General Stanley McChrystal.

The General is explaining why he chose to be featured in Rolling Stone magazine

  • Jajaja espero que no hicieran muchas tomas del video ,,, vaya paliza que se lleva el colega.

  • @matheesha123 Umm Daved byrn?

  • @matheesha123 THE COOL OF ANTI-COOL

  • bro con-cept IT'S HAPPENING HOW?

  • not sure why he keeps getting smacked in the video but it's a good song nonetheless if you check out the lyrics which are a bit ironic

  • hilarious song..xD

  • Is he really getting slapped?

  • @the10eyedtwolip if thtat was real his cheek would be really red wouldn't it? ;)

  • The Fall are not the only influences on this (and I hear Can too), I think you should listen to killing joke's change...

  • @tourettes84

yeah i was thinking exactly the same thing.."change!"

  • Joy Division esta a la moda!

  • @SpikeSpiegel01821 C'est pas une mode c'est une passion !!

  • Damn this is a RIP off of The Fall

  • Love It

  • acctually the ending sort of sucks like a bolt on... he should have come back to how it started full circle... losing my edge!!

  • this is very much like "THE FALL"

  • This is my kind of music.

  • On my brother's account (I'm lazy):

Agh! I love this song, but I have a kind of neck-cricking habit, which is probably bad, and this video kept making me want to. Bizarre and annoying DX<

But the song is fucking awesome. I loooove the lyrics. God, I love the lyrics.

LOL did it just cut off? Fuck, I love LCD Soundsystem.

  • this needs to be a million hit + video, god this is awesome!!!

  • He's losing his edge to Change by The Killing Joke :)

  • 1:57 LOL That's hilariously incoherent. "Well actually look pretty nice..."

  • I personally love the super long version

  • talking heads? you dumb fucks this is a rip off of the fall. asshat wearers

  • @scottbaioisdead what track, specifically? just wondering.

  • @theneedledrop

don't listen to him, man. mark e. smith created music and anyone who makes it is ripping him off. pavement > the fall ;). i actually like the fall, but i think that guy is really up is own ass. i wish i could meet him and tell him he ripped off lou reed and is completely unoriginal.

  • @intheband002 the good artists borrow, the great artists steal-picasso.

  • WAR's "Me And My Baby Brother" filtered through a Killing Joke cover ("Change") and David Byrne vocal sound... love it all music is one and alike

  • such an amazing video!! go on murphy kid!!! you'd know he was irish anyway!!! :)

  • more of an internet sensation than a band how is this music

  • darwin is lame, but evolution is real

  • @robertson1a, well said that man !

  • yo eh

  • they say James Murphy is the coolest person since Darwin.

  • @codyjdick Ah, but time can be considered as circular, so Darwin is really the coolest person since James Murphy was the coolest person since Darwin was the coolest person since James Murphy was the coolest person since Darwin was the coolest person since James Murphy was the coolest person since recursion.

Or your original comment could be correct, because there is no such thing (as much as there can be such a thing as 'no such thing') as a definite answer.

    Swings and roundabouts, really.

  • What did Mel Gibson do wrong to deserve slapping like this?

  • I just watched a man get slapped for over three minutes...

    Music was good tho :)

  • awsome song

  • *Jaw Drops* *Drops a large brick from his shiny metal ass* Where the funk have I been? O yea, "music school." More like music jail or music nut house. Jesus, I am funking loving this ishna. How long has this been around? I am very out of touch I guess. Why haven't I enjoyed music this much in so long? O yea I was in an orchestra being told original thought is stupid. Bass players are stupid apparently. Yea Paul McCartney is really dumb. Any who, good shnazz I'll be listening.

  • @medanzig school's overrated...music is life...use your heart and you can be successful in art

  • @medanzig fuck dude, I think I have a mancrush on you.

  • This song is fucking amazing but this video drives me damn nuts!!!

  • this song starts off so simply, then turns into a really crazy song! I love it!

  • james murphy is one of the most important musical voices of this generation. independent and creative...

  • Everybody stop complaining. Tastes in music are completely subjective - Some people love listening to pure noise, some people love nothing but classical, and some people love everything from speedcore, thrash, to dance, to folk. There's no BAD or GOOD music, it's all just music.

Also, I love the message this song conveys. Even if you don't like the music, just listen to what he's saying.

P.S. If you have an old Casio PT-20 from your childhood go put on the "disco" rhythm and sing along.

  • well not COMPLETELY subjective....

  • u know what. this is the shit manª real soundsystem i like it so if u not go and fuck yourselfs cause this is great i like i support

  • better label everything so you know what it is

  • electronica is what its called now

  • I'd say trance-punk

  • 'TEAR'

    SHARPEN YOUR EDGE!!!!

  • hell yeah, dance-punk.

  • what kind of music is that???

  • @kazanas4 a kind of punk funk

music from the end of 70s and the begining of 80s

check the band called Chk chk chk (!!!) or the rapture with the track called "house of jelo.."

    bzzzz

  • @kazanas4 Funk, you genre-izing punk.

Who cares about genres, until it sounds great anyway?

  • i feel the same way. Great song and great video.

  • God, what a meat head slap face...

good old beat, though and I kind of relate...

  • great song. great vid. why is an "edge" always new & ironic?

  • I nearly had a seizure at the begining

  • A little bit influenced by The Fall...

  • @giselahere

And quite a bit by DEVO.

  • vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv like the fall-great tho

  • Haha. I like LCD and I like James Murphy but he wasn't 'there' in 1968. :)

  • hahaha this video makes me laugh, its so stupid.

  • funny shit. calls it out.

  • and i suspect you´re a douche with no friends

  • people more cooler than you with internet help?

    this is the posibble message

I were in 1968 in Ibiza but you have all the cd collection with the help of the internet

I think is possible the central message of the song? * o * desu

  • this is a good song

  • Why even post an incomplete video? You left off the best part and it cuts out right as the groove gets going?!?! -50 points

  • i dont like to see you get hurt like that

  • so...does he want to be david byrne or what?

  • hahaha true true.

  • @dmc0053 he makes no attempt to hide his influences and this track in particular demonstrates that. I love Talking Heads and like this guy no less for it.

  • @robertson1a talking heads influenced pretty much everybody....i dont see other bands trying to BE the talking heads. its just a little bit blatant and spoon-fed for me.

  • i love this song :D the video is awesome as well lolss

mitchell seems to like it :)

  • o wonder how many teeth he lost filming this video

  • i love how people continue to reply to my comments. if you truly felt this song was awesome then wtf cares what i think. But you all know i am totally right and your offended cause its true.

keep replying to my comments talking shit, i listen to pink, good one man! im proud of you for that one! damn you are clever, you should be on "yo mama!".

    much love trolls

  • hey buddy i like this song... because of the lyrics and bands that he is referring to.

  • just stfu your only posting comments to annoy people which is pretty sad

  • I honestly don't care about this song or you people enough to post just to annoy someone. In case you didnt know, when someone replies to your comment, you are notified when you log in. I have ignored most of the comments. BUT...

When someone as hypocritical as yourself replies to my week old comment, I feel obligated to humor you. As i do with all mentally retarded people.

    You're a special boy! Aren't you?!

  • but LLTech have you not heard tale of his compilation of every good song ever done by everybody.

  • trash...

  • Where were 'his friends' in this vid? 5 stars

  • meh!

  • i don't like this video but the song's great! how's that for a compromise, ey?

  • I wish it was the full cut.

Oh, and you two jag-offs below, one with the sinlge Pink upload, and the other with some serious beatboxing taste - sort yourselves out.

  • wow, you have to be the biggest asshole without music culture, check more songs, and get a life, and put a black cock up your ass

  • thats cute, i'm sure its real easy to just dismiss it as me being musically ignorant. But when we get back to reality, its garbage.

I give everything a chance, quite a few chances actually, and as many times as i listen to this and tell myself its big for a reason. I just dont buy it.

You like it? Wonderful for you, really. I am sure you have tons and tons of bad music on your ipod and you consider yourself full of this music culture you speak of.

  • well, so let's ignore the grammy that they received by "best dance recording" and the other one for "best electronic album", let's just say that i know all the bands that are mentioned during the song and i bet you know just a few, don't mess with me asshole i know more about music than you, get a life and stop fucking

  • well in that case... all hail the mighty koridatz! geez i had no idea you knew so much, i am so sorry i messed with such a musically knowledgeable person. I can tell how passionate and dedicated you are! its hard to show sarcasm in text so ill just tell you i meant none of that.

You know all the bands that this song mentions so that means you know more about music than me? yeah that makes sense. and winning grammys for best dance recording and best electronic album means nothing to me

  • i think i'm in love with you, could you give me your e-mail?

  • The lyrics are genius and the whole atmosphere the loop creates is amazing.

It doesn't matter much if you like it or not. But if you don't, don't be an ass like you are now and fuck off without commenting,

You have about the worsted opinion I have herd

  • I agree. Great lyrics.

It's really about how all these kids nowadays can go out and get a lifetime's worth of experience in music in about a week. They can see all those shows online (for free). They can read about and even interact personally with musicians who were pioneers in their genre.

  • You listen to Pink!

    The end.

  • Sweet! Never seen this vid before thanks for uploading.

  • Hey Margaux and Nigel, do you guys hang out together, or are you just the same bitter person? 'Cause if you are really are two people, you should date, and make each other miserable. Just an idea!

  • that might be your opinion, but i think it's a cool track.

but ok: it isn't a really great track, but it has its interresting sites
