I have a refinished Late 60's model that I bought for cheap. it's amazing. It almost falls apart every time i play it. But It's one of the best studio basses I own (Aside from my trusty Fenders)
This is such a marvelous instrument, I hope to own my own in the near future. Although I am a guitar player it might come in handy. Peace Love and Music always - BoyMoptop
actually, you are wrong. The vintage '64 is EXACTLY the same as the vintage '63, with the exception of the neck binding. Both the vintage '63 & vintage '64 have the same neck shape.
@pigfarts992 It was "Silly Love Songs" from Paul playing with Wings, although Paul played the majority of Wings, especially that song on his Rickenbacker 4001s.
I notice the 63 Hofner has a more brown finish to the body then the 64's and up...or is that just because it was recorded with a camcorder and it distorts the color a bit?
Hey Mr. Vintage, Do you own a shop or anything? Because if you do I'm a recent college grad seeking employment haha. Seriously though, you have the COOLEST damn collection of guitars I've ever seen. Check out some of my videos if you get a chance - you might just dig them. Anyways I think your fab gear is gear fab. Keep rocking my friend.
@venomchaser88 Hey dude, Paul used a Vox T-60 in the Early Beatles days and then moved up to a T-100. As Far as the Wings-Era goes I'm not too sure. I think it was probably some kind of Fender or Marshall.
Hi MrVintage.. i always dreamed to have that bass (eventhough i dont play one)... can i ask you a question.. what is your recommendation for less expensive hofner violin bass? as far as i know there's contemporary series and icon..
@lordduckstraw so whats your point other then running your mouth . Looks like a junk bass . why dont you see anyone else use these other then the beatles ??
@jokertt14 Sorry! :( These basses are nice though! they are something different compared to other basses, unique. Different sound and, as you pointed out, different look! Didnt mean to sound rude. I think others dont use this bass due to its link with the beatles, not because of what its like.
Thank you for showing what the controls do. Everybody just seems to either talk talk talk or just play Beatles songs and it's annoying for those of us who want to see a real demo of what the bass can do. So again, thank you. The modeling of the bass for the camera was a bit too much though, but I think it's understandable to be proud of it, and I would be too.
nice bass sir... but i thought the original mccartney basses didnt have a strap thing on the neck, cause paul used to wrap his under the neck or something like dhat so yeah...nice bass anyway thanks for the upload...can you please make a video on that blonde bassman?
you have some of the best videos.. good thing i don't have all those guitars i would never leave that room!! must be a pain to get people to leave after they come to visit
I have a one-owner (me) '67. I have to say, the quality is also great. Other than the pups, pretty much the exact bass you have, but with the neck binding (without fret dots in the binding) and enclosed tuners. My pups are the "blade" type, rather than the desired "staple" design. I've checked into replacing, but size difference between the two don't allow it. I also have the original black/red interior violin shaped case as well. Love the vids Dave!
@tmo7734 flats, always. The quality of the old Hofners from 62-63 is superb. You cannot compare to the newer ones. From 64 onwards, there was so much demand, quality suffered, and the specs changed too.

Paul's bass did not have a strap nut screws. He had to "tie" the strap around the neck and fasten a hook onto the tailpiece.

Paul McCartney used a Hofner 500/1 1962 Bass, Even the Hofner site states he used a 1962 given to them in 1963

Paul mcCartney plays an original 62 Hofner, given to him in 63. It therefore is basically still the 62, as it contains the 62s features. :)

The Shure SM58 (as opposed to the SM57) is more suitable to speech because it has a windscreen to cut down on plosives.
