I dunno....I loved everything half life had to offer in that time period. I remember buying the pack that had HL1, Opposing Force, and Team fortress.

I don't remember playing much of blue shift, but anything in that Half-Life universe I enjoyed.

I loved it. I also loved Blue Shift. They don't feel like Half Life, but they still feel like great games. And, when I played Half Life 1 for the first time, I always wondered about those security gaurds, and a bit about those soldiers that were ordered to "purge" the facility. It's just cool that they gave Half Life two remakes through other prespetives.

I enjoyed OpFor a lot. I thought it had some great set pieces (like when your trapped in the room thats filling with acid and at the last minute G-Man opens the door for you), and it seems to have aged a bit better than Half-Life did (coming from someone who had only first heard of Half-Life about 5 years ago).

Personally, the boss fights in this were a little better than half life, however, it wasn't as well rounded. I dont know. Interesting to say the least. Gearbox huh? Duke Nukem Forever... Wonder how that will turn out.

You can obtain the crowbar if you first teleport to the Anomalous Materials lab and fire a teleport ball at the Anti-mass spectrometer. You then get caught in a harmonic rift that teleports you to the entrance of Blast pit. There you get the crow bar.

I always thought attacking with melee weapons looked kind of weird in this game. Shepard just barely taps crates with his wrench and they break, and he appears to be punching with his knife, rather than stabbing or slicing.

Opposing Force is the first Half Life game I ever played. I found it completely amazing. Then I played Blue Shift, then I played the original...yeah I know. For me, the 3 are unerasable from my memory. Great review !

@xjod9 Depends on who you ask, I suppose. A lot of review outlets tend to curve their scores a lot so that, essentially, anything below, say, 8/10 is a 'do not buy'. I use my 1-5 scale evenly, making 3/5 okay, which is what OpFor is. It's just no Half-Life.

I disagree with almost everything in this review! This is an incredible game. After playing Half-Life I was blown away at how amazing this game was. Then I played Half-Life: Opposing Forces expecting little to be new, but was even more amazed with it. It's an outstanding expansion pack. The new weapons are really cool, the new enemies are really cool. The new puzzles are really cool, and the gameplay is really cool. This game felt way more "epic" than any ( () |) game I'll ever play!

I just finished OpFor on Pc, this game blew me away! even for a game thats 11 years old, still kicks ass! it was very interesting. At the end the Gman claims he will have further use for CPL Shepard, sounds like a hint at a future Opfor game... but who knows. May not happen.

well your review is great. Its just I think they did a good job I really loved the gameplay and thought the new selection of ai and weapons were a unique and great touch. Besides the storyline was cool, I really liked the part where right when you get through the door you see freeman jump into the portal to xen and you look back to the time when you were playing the original half life doing the same. I really enjoyed this game.. But I guess you just cant please everyone :/

Blue Shift is arguably the weakest. Introducing nothing new to the series except for the HD pack. It even has the nerve to borrow the OpFor Soundtrack. 2 hours on average for completion and no weapons of it's own. I was bored to death whilst playing it.

Taking into account the sheer size of the Black Mesa facility; it's perfectly plausible that in the 3 levels from when Adrian Shepard meets the Race X for the first time and when Gordon Freeman leaves for Xen that Freeman just happens to be lucky enough not to encounter any of the Race X.

@Otakulicious If one to say that Race X isn't plausable because Gordon never encountered them, one could also argue about where the new breeds of head crabs and the antlions come from in half life 2. No one brings that up. The combine could have bred the headcrabs, yes, but I highly doubt the combine world bring in the antlions as they are more of an annoyance to the combine. It seems best to leave well enough alone and don't pull on the threads. It is--just a game, after all.

Is it the point where Freeman goes through the portal thingy? If so, I had that problem too. Check the Steam forums - there are a few fixes.

I believe I got through it by enabling the console and turning on noclip, and just flying through the walls to get past the room that causes the game to freeze.

I don't understand why people like the solider combat so much. It's deeply flawed and far too difficult. You arbitrarily win or lose any encounter and it is always a case of save, inch forward, reload. And you cannot avoid taking damage. The black ops are faster and even more unfair versions of the original soldiers. The last run before the end boss is ridiculously unfair. Get massacred, load, get massacred, load, get massacred, load, magically do well, save, get massacred, load. Forever.

Hey, I'm trying to install the HD pack for Opposing force but it's not working, the problem is that I have to put the folder in the "steamapps" folder and then my username folder, but the name of the HD models folder is the same as the game folder "opposing force" so I can't overwrite it, changing its name a little doesn't help at all since the models don't appear, I don't have the steam version models installed...if anybody can help it would be great.

If you like the 'fish weapon' you should check out an unknown game to you, I bet, that is due out this year on PC, called 'The Precursors'. I think nearly all the weapons are 'organic'! :) The game will also include land to space battles (ie spaceship battles ala Freelancer and first person shooting on land with RPG lite elements)

As for VBS2, nope, however I did manage to get VBS1, and i'm not sure about an enhanced version of OFP - first time i have heard of it.

I hope if OFP 2 comes out, that it remains a realistic experience.

But it might just become another regular war shooter where the gun is always held the same "in the screen swaying".

I just loved the situation, the flexible story, and the feeling you get after surviving hours of suspense and action.

It's just you, your notebook, a map, a watch, weapons, and your instincts.

Many would agree that this game should get a makeover mod, a graffix update.

OFP2 isnt being made by Bohemia the original creators. ArmA.... which is techincally the spiritual sequal to OFP is available, but its singleplayer is a hit and miss compared to OFPS.

Otherwise OFP1 is still one of my favourite games, played the hell out of it from 2001 till 2006 - thanks to the addon/modding community and editor.
