  • Meanwhile back in lousy 2011 Aerosmith is bringing their "one of a kind live show" to Latin America and Japan oh fuckin' yaaaay!

  • So much better than The Cadet's version

  • They're musical influence is outrageously over rated. In the image and attitude department, they're in the upper echelon. But lets not get carried away. They were bold and confident coming out on stage in a drag. By audacity alone they seemed to have been persuasive. But if they didn't look the way they looked they would not be remembered for their songs alone. Thats a fact.

  • @Ronniewants2die you're full of it. watch the documentary "end of the century" and hear the ramones talk about the great and simple (as in no long solos, etc.) music of the dolls. do some proper research (and NOT your biased opinion) and you will find out just how influential the dolls were (and continue to be) to many bands. never say "that's a fact" when you don't know what you're talking about.

  • @Ronniewants2die Are you Steven Tyler commenting under a pseudonym?

  • Comment removed

  • Don Kirschner: comic genius.

  • I think I've just spotted Steve Jones Les Paul that Sylvain Sylvain is playing that's if it is true about Malcolm Mclaren robbing stuff from the dolls

  • @wipers86 That is Steve’s Les Paul custom. But McLaren never stole it. Sylvain gave it to McLaren to take to England, and he said that he would come out a little bit after...but he never did. So he gave it to Steve.

  • And David Johansen was great as the taxi driver/ghost of Christmas past on Scrooged.

  • I heard the album version and if they had released a version without the screeching background singers, it would have been a big hit. I can't make it more than than 30 seconds of the album version.

  • Brilliant combination of classic rock, punk and their own twisted sensibilities.

  • Bad ass!!!!

  • This version kicks fuckin ass

  • Great footage. Lots of TV shots got destroyed. Glad this was saved & even gladder that you uploaded it. Thanks!

Yes, the Cadets (recorded this song as the 'Jacks") had the famous version . The Jayhawks did the original version. Like many up-and-coming-but-never-got-there bands, their cover was quickly covered by the Cadets. Marketing muscle took over from there. Karl Perkins knows how this goes.

Don't forget the writers. Stranded in the Jungle was written by Ernestine Smith and James Johnson.

  • A 50's do-wop group called the Cadets.

  • @wilbar2922 not true, it was originally by The Jay Hawks. The Cadets covered it (like they did all the time).

  • I can't believe I never knew that the NY Dolls covered this song til now.

  • @wilbar2922 Who did the original?

  • @wilbar2922 THIS

  • A guy in Chicago, Michigan started glam rock by using pool chalk under a beer light at a dive across from the 1920's wood pallet and auto graveyard. That town isn't even there any more. It turned into a beer and wine shop for right wing crackers who get high.

  • Great Koo Koo Kook ...!

  • So, who invented glam rock? These guys, Bowie, or Marc Bolan? Most people I've asked say Bowie.

  • @bigal838 A mix of people started it.

  • @bigal838 Bowie, but you know, I saw them in 1974 (I was 14). They were a little more human than Bowie!

  • @bigal838 Bolan

  • @bigal838 I think all of them had "invented" it. They had a very different style, but the people says that they were glams for his clothes style and make up. But if you look to Bolan, Bowie and the new york dolls, they are very different.

  • @bigal838 i did

  • @bigal838 Well, New York Dolls (& Lou Reed) in New York, it was just the fashion of the New York underground and all. Bowie was influenced by Marc Bolan, but was already dressing strange (red hair in Space Oddity video, Man Who Sold The World cover, big hats in the Warhol meeting). But when Bolan broke trough with White Swan with all those glitters and all, Bowie must have thought ''Let's go all the way'' and then invented Ziggy.

  • Van Halen got their idea for Everybody Wants Some from these guys.

  • Put Them In the Hall

  • @ThePENON how TF can they not be in the hall? its repulsive that they have been over looked for so long.

  • @thorinbane then don't listen to the radio. The radio has always sucked.

  • Thank God for Don Kirshner for broadcasting these bands.

  • Not to mention that everything on two legs in that room had pretty much a 90% chance of getting laid that night.

  • beiber beiber beiber !!!

  • meanwhile back in shitty 2010 ... !

  • @giggie make it better

  • @poolpig yeah,you're right !! i'm trying mate !!

  • @giggie right on me too, howre you?

  • OH MY GOD.

I WISH DAVID WAS RELATED TO ME.

  • Now this is why I like youtube, to be able to find bands that I liked as a kid. I use to dig these cats.

  • Glad I'm an old fuckin' duffer. Good times back then.

  • im 19 and effing love the new york dolls. we need more music like this!!

  • It sucks being the age I am, there are no good bands like this around anymore. I'm fine listening to New York Dolls and Ramones and various punk bands from the 70's and 80's, but there are no good shows to go to. Musicians now just aim to please with what is popular regardless of how much they suck at what they are doing.

  • @alk3tom These are the same reasons a lot of good bands got started. A lot of punk bands were tired of the scene at the time or the music the radio was trying to feed them, so they made their own music. A lot of good bands form as reactions to this kind of stuff.

  • @alk3tom And the REAL problem is when you are at a show, The crowd turns into a fucking Karaoke ship from hell. It's impossible to see and hear a band today.

  • Ha.... I remember hearing this once back in the 70s.... not sure they did anything else. was and still not into top40 or big hair bands....

  • genius!,i bought both Dolls albums when they were released, timeless brilliance.Peter,London

  • this is so fuckin cool

  • Thanks for unearthing this! OMG DON KUSHNAH introducing the Dolls!

  • this is how they need to be dressin now. Bust out the platforms and jockstraps. love me some ny dolls!!!!!! 8====D

  • what a genius version

  • nolan rulz

  • "Two fags and Jerry".

  • Holy cow -just by rocking up the riff, they accidentally covered "Baby Boomerang"!

  • this def where "Welcome to the Jungle (GnR)" and "Everybody Wants Some (Van Halen)" originated from. No doubt!

  • David Johansen is hot, but he's a little too hairless for my tastes.

  • fucking unbelievable!!!

  • thanks jett

  • får man ha såna skor när man e pojke?!?

  • @IasinPlural

    haha ;P

    tydligen i new york...

  • go, jerry, go!

  • OMG this is sooooooo fuckin great. I've never heard this!!!! Sweet discovery... like a young boy and his first orgasm.

  • history of rock rite there for all to see, just one more great band to enjoy and remember, you tube is king !!!!!!!!

  • The most fun band EVER !

And although I dig the original Cadet's version; the Dolls top even that.

  • The original by the Cadets circa 1956 way better.

  • Did you hear the Dolls' studio version ?

  • probably one of the less popular Dolls tunes- but I love it! At the Burlington VT show in June 2009 DavidJo asked for any requests and I hollered for this and everyone around me looked at me like I had 2 freakin heads... They did an awesome acoustic version of this during their May 2009 tour of South America- on the radio- DavidJo forgot a few lyrics, but, what the hell..

  • Trivia time!: The white Les Paul custom that Sylvain is using in this show is the very same one that Steve Jones used in the Sex Pistols. Malcolm McClaren got it for him from Sylvain Sylvain. Cool eh?

  • i doubt that very much

  • I threw up on Syl

  • there is alot of bands today that owe alot to the dolls lets put em in the hall!!!

  • Answer: Talented

Go David Johansen and The New York Dolls !

  • Meanwhile back in shitty 2009...

  • RADDEST DOLLS TUNE EVER! <3 Johnny

  • I'd rather hear David Jo than SJH anyday, in fact it's a great way to hear Hawkins material if you ask me. This shit lives!!!!!!!!!

I saw them in Portland back in May, attended rehearsals and then dined with them, filmed the show and went back stage and partied with them, it was an amazing experience. And I do this with plenty of bands, the NY Dolls are as good as it gets, as long as you have good taste you will see that.

  • fuckin great band. saw them last night at the house of blues in dallas.

  • Imho this is the best American band of all times. The first time I heard about them (in 2006) was just one day before I saw them live in Finland :)

  • I love this song, this was one of the first bands with ORIGINAL songs, they were great

  • this is a jayhawks song so its not an origional but its a good take

  • ik, i was talkin bout the dolls in general lol

  • god they were good.

  • This song is so funny, GREAT !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Noddy Holder that is, or Dave Hill on guitar...

  • They never had Noddy.

  • I can easily imagine myself performing some striptease under this music in front of my baby ;-FFFF

  • God I love this song.

But I'm surprised to find out that this is a cover.

  • Jerry Nolan:one of the GREATEST drummers in the entire history of Rock!

  • The singer looks like Malcolm McDowell in A Clockwork Orange .

  • one of my favorite bands.

  • I dont get it, why is Sylvain playing the solo parts? I thought generally Johnny did? Unless I've got them confused...?

  • no johnny useually does but i guess syl just better at this one hahaha on the studio version its like mo town singing instead of the licks

  • cool vid, thanks for adding! anyone know when this aired? btw, the original version of this song was performed by the cadets, 1958.

  • The Cadets? I thought it was The Jayhawks?

  • Right you are, The Jayhawks had the original, and in '56 (not '58).

"Stranded In The Jungle" The Cadets July 28, 1956 #2

"Stranded In The Jungle" The Jayhawks July 28, 1956 #18

"Stranded In The Jungle" The Gadabouts August 4, 1956 #39

  • thejayhawks and cadets arent they the same band?
