I've owned 2 TG-16's. Sadly let my friend borrow my last one maybe 12 years ago and forgot about it. =/ Still bonks kicked ass and afew other ones that I played. TG-16 was a great little system for the time. And you couldn't argue with the turbo controllers it came with.
I've never owned or even seen a Turbo Grafx-16, but judging by the PSP/PS3 version of this game, it probably would have been a pretty cool system to have owned!
I played this on the original Turbo Graphix 16 and yes this was among the finest games on this system. Splatterhouse the original one was my favorite though and also Ninja Spirit was pretty amazing too. So those were the best.
@Damauveropolis Yes. If you would watch the History channel you will find that there's many things in history that we didn't think was possible. I'd contribute the elevators to the aliens myself.
why would anybody want to eat anything inside of a dinosaur's mouth? he swims through what is considered the digestive stomach acids. this is indeed a very wierd game. lol
I remember when I first played this. I must have been 4 or 5...Maybe younger. I was outside swimming and I was called in for a suprise from my father. I didn't know much about games but he introduced me to the wild, Meat eating, Head bonking caveman that would change my world. A few days later, I remember my first rage against a video game...Then It was trying to get over the first wall in the 2nd stage. Now it's those fucking Commando and One Man Army kids...
Man!, this sure brings back memories. I used to play the crap out of this game in 1993 back when i was a patient at the Shriner's Hospital for Children in Springfield, Massachusetts.
The recreation room at the hospital had a few videogame consoles you could play with, including an NES and Turbografx 16 videogame console. I have been waiting for another chance to play this game ever since.
I have played the NES version of this game, but its not the same. This is the REAL Bonk's Adventure
The finest on the TG16? Nah... But it's fine trilogy of platformers. All fun games. Gotta love the prehistoric setting. Not a lot of platformers like that.
My aunt gave me turbo grafx 16 back in the day and this game and I was like what the hell is this but I am glad she did because I loved this game as soon as I played it!
What's with all these games that have levels where you go inside a creature's belly? There's that level here, they did that in Chuck Rock and in the Incredible Hulk game on the Genesis and SNES, hell even Zelda has gone in that direction. Why did the game developers keep insisting on putting characters through disgusting ordeals like that?
It's still popular, check out the new "Mario & Luigi" game! I really don't know exactly what's up with this kind of thing... I mean, I don't exactly place getting eaten and, uh... "working my way out" high on my fantasy scenarios list.
Maybe it gives free reign for developers to do whatever nutty things they want, 'cause, who knows what all those kooky things inside a giant lizard looks like? ...or maybe it's because one dude did it, the game sold, and now everyone else thinks it's a standard.
Um, wow, yeah, I guess it sort of is if you think of it like that. Keeping in mind that the whole game is supposed to have an exaggerated, childish, manga look kinda explains it, some.
Just for fun, I went on Wikipedia and typed in "TurboGrafx 16." One thing their article mentioned is that TurboGrafx 16 had a hard time getting support from third-party software developers and publishers. And one of the reasons for this was that Nintendo was engaging in anti-competitive practices that were later ruled illegal.
Yeah, I remember Nintendo did some stuff like that. Even if it was the wrong thing to do, it worked out for them in the long run. Business is a sticky thing.
I more or less forgot that the TurboGrafx 16 system ever even existed. For some reason (or perhaps a combination of reasons), this system just never really picked up steam. I personally only remember ONE of my friends having one of these things when I was a kid.
does anyone else find bonk's tranformation from spicy meat racist? he starts out white and well mannered, he turns mexican and get's a little fiestier, then he turns black and gets all crazy and badass, screams racism to me
also I beat this game and Bonks revenge on TG16, best thing about the system was you could get games cheap but they were the size of credit cards so they were easy to lose. I still have the TG16 handheld system that works as a tv, but no games.
Nah, I doubt that was the intent at all. If anything, he looks more and more sunburned to me. Just a pallete swap to make the change obvious along with some anime/manga expression that gets the point across, really.
They were cheap? Never knew. The system you had sounds interesting, might have to look it up sometime. (I've never had contact with TurboGrafx before this)
Wow, I played that game too a long time ago but never realized how much it was a Super mario bros copycat. Stomping the enemies, invincibility meat vs. star, faces vs.coins etc...that's crazy!
Aw, it's different enough! For one, he controls like a... caveman. Also, instead of stomping on people with your feet, you use the opposite side and bonk 'em with your head!
two completely different games. imo bonk had a considerably different amount of depth. dont forget SMB2 wasnt even a mario game originally. every platformer is in some ways similar.
Now that I've seen footage, I am interested in possibly getting this game. I just want to know first though. How hard does this game get? This game reminds me of Mario, but better because you have a decent amount of moves with Bonk's head. And now I know why they call him Bonk. Would you recommend this game for download on Virtual Console and why. Please. Thanks!
I got it because I wanted to see what the TurboGrafx system was capable of and heard that this was a fun platformer for it. It does get a bit harder as you go along, and you probably won't be able to beat the final boss your first try, that's for sure. Once you learn where hidden items are, it becomes a lot easier.
Would I recommend it? There are better platformers out there, but if you're curious about the headliner for TurboGrafx, I'd say try it out!
TurboGrafx 16 is my first console in which I owned and loved for many years. It's also the first console in which I could say that I've beaten my first game all the way through without cheats or a guide. Bonk's Adventure have been my first game in which I've done so. Second would be Yoshis' story, then Super Mario World, but Bonks' Adventure started my obsession with video games. It was straight forward and simple, yet challenging. When I think of video games. Good times.
Inside the dinosaur's belly is a good place to get extra lives. After you grab the 1up at 5:13 you can get under those tadpole things below you and keep jumping from underneath them to rack up a silly amount of points. There's also a hidden 1up to the right of you at 6:10. Just jump into where the gray bricks end and the dinosaur's body begins.
you missed a couple of secrets in the first level. There's a free guy right at the beginning if you land on your head just to the left of the start sign.
I found it to be entertaining enough. My comment was basically alluding the the fact that he is no Mario, and should not be expected to control like one.
As soong as I saw this video, I went and watched all of them, and it's amazing, how much I can remember of it, considering I only played it when I was about... maybe 4. And Kudos to you as well, for beating what I can think of, being one of the hardest games I have ever played! I thank you for posting the entire game. Reminds me of my childhood.
I heard so much about the game, so I had to try it. Also, I heard that the TurboGrafx included a "Turbo" button on their controllers, but I decided against using it. I wanted to beat it without turning Bonk into a spinning pinwheel.
Glad to hear the video reminded you of earlier times.
Yeah, I rememeber my older brother turning him into a spinning pinwheel, even without the turbo button. He was always good at mashing buttons. Again, I can't thank you enough for posting the videos, I've been watching them on a daily basis, and it's been fantastic :)
i'm not sure if that's exactly it. i mean like how he jumps on the stuff and then it dies or whatever they do lol.
and then when he gets that one berry or whatever it was he can run through and kill everything without dying himself. and a lot of the things in the level kind of looked like it too.
It's kind of like Mario, a more awkward controlling Mario at that. Personally, I always thought that it was kind of different how you couldn't just jump on enemies without using your head!
I remember getting this game and a turbo grafx for free from my aunt for Christmas 1990 or 1991, I was like what the heck is this game and system but I liked it. I was really spoiled that year because I got a regular Nintendo with Super Mario & Duck hunt as well from my parents..
ive been looking for this game for so long, and i forgot the name of it ;_; im so happy you posted this. i loved this game ^^ reminds me of when i was 8 years old :D
Don't you hate it when that happens? I've played a lot of random old games, so I get people who only remember little things about an older game ask me to help identify them.
Thank you for posting this up! I remember getting this for my tenth birthday a gift from my dad. And boy! did I play it all the way through the end and saved the princess and I also finished Bonk's Revenge.
hey white I posted Bonk's Adventure onto youtube I did before but it was horrible so I done it again plus you might wanna see it there something when you start the game you didn't get
I remember when I got the turbo grafix 16 all my friends were like "what the hell is that thing...... no seriously im not staying over at your house if you dont have a nintendo"
This is the original game for the TurboGrafx-16, although, it is emulated on the Wii (Bought from Virtual Console). I don't really remember what the SNES version was like, although I do recall there being sequels on that system.

I remember getting this game and a turbo grafx for free from my aunt for Christmas 1990 or 1991, I was like what the heck is this game and system but I liked it. I was really spoiled that year because I got a regular Nintendo with Super Mario & Duck hunt as well from my parents..

Don't you hate it when that happens? I've played a lot of random old games, so I get people who only remember little things about an older game ask me to help identify them.

I still have my TurboGrafx and the game. I always hated that you couldn't save, but it was a fun game anyway. Brings back memories...

Thanks. I don't really understand your language, but I think I've got your meaning.
It's in mono because that's all YouTube allowed when I first uploaded it. I can now upload things in stereo, though.
Thanks for the comment!

Hey; I played somthing like that in the SNES. But the levels in your vid are completely diffrent; except for all the monsters. It's fun really.

This is the original game for the TurboGrafx-16, although, it is emulated on the Wii (Bought from Virtual Console). I don't really remember what the SNES version was like, although I do recall there being sequels on that system.
WhiteKhakis 4 years ago
The game on the SNES was called Super bonk.
