The guy with long hair is a politician in Hong Kong (nicknamed "Long Hair," obviously) who got in trouble for throwing bananas during parliament.

The character's whose house is destroyed receives very little money in compensation, a regular occurance.

The old man is supposed to be the "King of Kowloon" calligraphy-graffiti artist, whose work the government promised to protect but has been mostly destroyed.
