  • what is the city code for Yakutat, I flew thru there 7 years ago on AS, ANC-Cordova(need taht one too), Yakutat-JNU-SEA. Thanks

  • Nice Reverse Thrust

  • The scariest thing about the video is the fact that it's a 737 200.

  • That was a cool view of the reverse thrust!

  • This was indeed a scary landing. Although, I wasn't onboard this one, I have experienced many 737-200 rough-air approaches similar to this. They're fun when drunk...terrifying otherwise. Great video.

  • Flying into Valdez Alaska here man I have seen and been in some rough landings and bad bad wind!!

  • AWESOME

  • That's one hell of a fast approach o.o

  • @itsGazaIan

No it isn't. The video is sped up from real time. I guess the poster wanted to show off or something. If you're not sure from the approach, just listen to the announcements after the plane lands. The voice sounds like a 45 record played at 78 rpm.

  • Shit. That was a rough landing!

  • why do they retract the flaps...don't they have to extend them again on takeoff?

  • Looked like a pretty tame, calm landing to me. Being a pilot, I've seen far far far worse!

  • good job with that camera, looked very bumpy

  • great work with the camera

  • This isn't so bad...Ive seen worse..In the Philippines there was a typhoon (they get it all the time I know) But not over Philippines just off the coast. And the plane was just going up and down 10ft all the time for approach....Yeah this isn't so bad.

  • I get a worse ride driving to work. Pretty normal approach and landing by one of the most durable jet aircraft ever built.

  • That loud noise u hear are those the breaks? Cuz he was going fast and then u hear that loud noise when the lady gets on the speaker and the plane slows down really fast

  • Oh, wow. Haven't landed this far north ever. Just Ketchikan and Juneau, but this one looks cold and bumpy and scary.

  • if i was in that plane i would shit my pants

  • fast approach!

  • what year was this? when did they remove the 200s? departure airport? lol sry so many questions :p

  • I love this braking noise, specially on the 732!

  • Wow...looked like the plane was coming in a bit too fast for final approach.

  • this is so lame... any alaskan will tell you this is easy

  • @akpothed thank you for pointing that out!

  • Nothing unusual there, this is just one of thousands done the same everyday. I've had to use push broom to keep snow from getting too deep on the inlets of the 50K Hp engines

  • Noisy brakes!

  • I agree, really scary landing, you are brave holding the camera in the middle of that!

  • Out of hundreds of these types of videos, yours is the first where the video actually showed a really bumpy landing. Good work with the camera.

  • @eastbaylifter Thanks! i tried to hold the camera still...but it was quite "shaky". Unfortunately the video quality isn't the best...

  • Based on the runway marker, it looks like that lovely old 737-200 landed in approximately 3,000 ft of runway. Well done old friend.

  • What i wouldn't give for a nice cold turbulent flight!

  • she also

  • he cut through that wind lol

  • Hehehe, funky reverse thrust. Looks like the engine cover is about to fly off.

  • looks like he was hauling ass lol

  • that looks sooo windy

  • Ah, love me some 200 series 737s :)

  • Next time, zoom out a bit more so we can see more of the wing, engine, and surrounding scenery.

  • I'd do it, but that film was made with a simple photo-camera! Quality isnt that good but at least nobody sees you using "electronical devices" and gets scared ;-)

  • @Flowis311 Just tell them it's solar powered. People will believe anything.

  • nice soft touchdown

  • definitely a 737-200, the breaks should be check though, they sound worn.

Well things have come a long way with the newer NG (next generation) series of 737. With glass cockpit, modern avionics, better engines with increased power and fuel efficiency just to name a few. My personal favorite is the 900ER I have logged thousands of hours on these birds(simulation) and I still get a thrill every time I fly them.

very reliable aircraft, flown buy many airline companies today.

  • when i hear Yakutat I think only about cold. I don't feel like going to Alaska . I think i will never do this :P

  • That's a 737-200. It was the workhorse in the state of Alaska. Alaska retired the 200 fleet a few years ago. Definitely not a low cost company. I'd challenge Southwest to fly in the environment Alaska does: Barrow to Mexico, Hawaii to Miami. Do some research!

  • what was this shitty aircraft lokks like 60s plane,if i was you avoid this low cost company,it's your life flo

  • so what u f**k

  • That "3" marker on the side of the runway signifies 3,000 feet of runway left going the opposite way. In other words, you used 3,000 feet to stop!!!

  • the runway is only 6000 feet long. They flew this jet (737-200) to Dutch Harbor where the runways is only 3900 feet long. I trust an AS pilot and co pilot over every big legacy carrier in the US

  • brakes are friggen loud haha feel like im flying in a KLM 733 when stopping. KLM rocks

  • Phew! My teeth were clenched just watching that!

  • Wow I'd be freaggin scared if I was on that plane...holy!

  • Its not fuel, its the air condensed for the wings.

  • Lord!

  • is there a fuel jettision in approach?

  • Now that's what I call flying lol

  • skilled pilot!

    fine landing

  • And what brand of serious deodorant do those pilots use.....and endorse ?? Man what a ride !!!!

  • wow. from landing a 737 to a political bitch fight. must be the fire water.

  • Holy Crap! Look at the 'wing-flex"!! That looked like some dicey landing! Why I would never fly in Alaska in winter!!

  • I'd fly Alaska any day of the year. If you think winter flying is a harsh ride, summer weather is bumpier, anywhere. This is nothing.

  • @SenorSpode Yeah, hotter air is usually far more unstable.

  • wow

  • Skilled pilot. Spooky ass landing.

  • water on runway... this was scary

  • holy shit

  • as you made that u-turn at the end of the runway the marker looked like it said 5 for 5,000ft left..or did it say 3? thanks.

  • Damn that looked fast & fun

  • say what??

  • I can't see Russia from the window

  • Hmmm... Where's Sarah when you need her?

  • i'm moving here in a couple weeks. i am so excited. i have seen some pictures online and seen how beautiful it is. i hear it is has a record number of fish congregating there. i am looking forward to meeting the people and just experiencing the outdoors like never before. whoo hoo

  • Enjoy, Dan! I lived there for a long time and only moved for a great job opportunity. It is wonderful! I'm getting there in August for my yearly visit and can't wait! Buy yourself some Xtra Tuffs, some Carhartts and a good wet weather jacket; you'll need it. It does rain a lot but when it's clear it's the most beautiful place in the world. Be careful and have a great time.

  • amazing video!

it comes in quite fast, doesn't it?

  • It's tough to respect a state who would elect a ruthless, religious fanatic with not much intellect like Sarah Palin

  • She's attractive though! and at least its not Islam she supports

  • And here folks, with xesionprince, I give you the mentality of the Alaska voter.

  • What kind of fucking idiot comment is that. What does Sara Palin have to do with this video. What a hack.

  • Apparantly, it had enough to do with it get a +4 rating moron. You must be a fan of that cunt, which makes you a moron.

  • Your an idiot.

  • You voted for a lunatic old man, and a not very bright religious fanatic in 2008, and I'm the idiot??? OK.

  • Better than a broke, welfare recipient democrat.

  • Ummm.....it was BUSH II who made us broke genius. How much did Iraq cost??

Also, broke is honest. Religion is an insane, self-manifestation by people who are simple and fear death. So, yea, I'd rather be broke then crazy.

  • Ok, so we're just forgetting all about what Clinton did during his term in office as well?

    Okie Dokie!

  • Ok....elaborate please?

Last time I checked, he didn't create a war that cost BILLIONS of dollars a month. Clinton wasn't great, but the economy boomed during his presidency, AND, he operated with a surplus.

  • what the fuck does this have to do with a 737 landing in Alaska?

  • Comment removed

  • @737200LVR Yeah.... I wonder how a 737-200 landing in yakutat, alaska has anything to do with a 737 landing in alaska

  • @737200LVR it is

  • @737200LVR Maybe everything? Since it's a 737... landing in Alaska.

  • No you are. It's "you're", not "your". Learn the language.

  • Someone should let that bee out of the jar.

  • Alaska is pretty good, but on landing at Phoenix on perfect conditions we hit the runway hard and yawed quite a bit, corrected with a hard rudder stab. Next day flew from PHX to SEA and landed in storm conditions, but the pilot greased it in. Quite ironic.

  • What plane is that? The old 737-200?

  • yes

  • hey dude, it`s not my fault that you are affraid of flying, maybe you can take the bus next time

  • yeah, i guess you guys in the netherlands are only used to taking the bus...but Alaska is maybe a little bit too big! thanks for commenting

  • @Flowis311 or riding a bike...

  • u´d all shit ur selves!!

i think mr.robertsasyannick never flew on a plane... only in his bedroom?

  • seems not so scary to me and what says that woman?

  • i can guarantee u´d shit urself in there, feeling traped, and to the ride untill the end....

  • now i know why, u´r holland, full of shit!!

  • dude that plane was way to fast man. holy shit

  • Yeah, you mean like they took good care of their MD-80s? Seriously, all morbid joking aside, I would not feel comfortable being a passenger in a 40 year-old plane that has probably 75,000+ airframe cycles in it...no thanks!

  • Nothing wrong with it if it's well taken care of, the continental express which just crashed in new york a couple of months back was a 2008 plane and look what happened.

  • Good Lord, Alaska Air still uses those rickety old 200s? That's rather disturbing.

  • Nice.. Thanks for sharing this landing video =)

By the way, back track / U-Turn on the runway, is normal on short runway

  • A reverse-taxi at the end! Whoah!

  • may i ask, what type of plane were you flying in?

  • 737-200

  • Dont see many of them around any more :(

  • Beauty

  • when was this?>

  • say hi to sara palin if spelled right...

  • if you can see Russian soil from up here, her house is nearby

  • boooowwaaahhhhahahahahaHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

  • lol

  • Just slowed down after touch down, and she's already quacking on the microphone. Why do they always do that? Nobody listens anyway.

  • yea this is scary! ive been in a plane landing wit crosswinds dats no joke!!! but these pilots know wat dey doing!

  • Ive been on a 737 in alaska before

I think its scary i dont see how some people done

  • wow 1:30 - 1:42 looks like the pilots were really battling out that wind!

  • the stupid people who say that these landings are not scary obviously do not understand the fear of take off and landing. I've been on dozens of flights and i have experienced good landings and some nasty ones, this my friends is a pretty bad one. When your there sitting at the window and watching that wing wobble up and down and praying for the fucking plane to land already your heart starts to beat fast. i know the feeling, it is scary.

  • I really do not get it why people post videos of perfectly normal flights and title them as "scary". There was nothing unusual about this landing. Just because you are scared on planes doesn't mean the landing was "scary". I suggest you take the train next time.

  • And I really do not get why people who don't have a clue about the situation of flying (especially in Alaska) comment on a video and act like they are soooo tough and cool. Since you might be used to flying in Britain with big airports, long runways and modern airplanes I dont see your point. A bunch of people in this aircraft would have taken a train maybe, but there is NO TRAIN from Juneau to Yakutat...so COME ON!

  • FAST landing!!!!

  • piece of cake.

I've never flown a plane & I reckon I could have done that.

    I'm also blind.

    And deaf.

    Wheelchairbound

    Hungry

    thirsty

    dandruff

    pale?

  • I dont get it. But I am REALLY sorry for you!

  • I thought the landing was actually quite soft compared to the approach...

  • NICE, Im getting a woody just watching this, great skilled landing. GO 200'S!!!!!!!

  • beautiful

  • Defenetly a -200 those control surfaces are always fun to watch. Yes, I thought he came down a little fast. Its the 737s unique clam-shell thrust reverser design.

  • did anyone else think that the plane was coming in a little fast?

  • I hope you didn't pay too much to fly with that old plane...

  • Wow Great video! gotta love flying in Alaska...

  • wo that was a short landing!!

  • what a skilled pilot! hard landing

  • That actually looked like a greaser, even on a nice day! But to "roll it on" in those conditions and get it stopped in 3000' of wet runway, that's just outstanding.

Did Alaska scrap those -200 Combi's, or did they sell them off to another operator?

  • leave it to alaska to give ya bad flying conditions

  • what plane is that?

  • It's a 737-200 Combi, means that the front section of the plane is for cargo, and the rear section is for passengers...

  • That plane really stops on a dime! Impressive braking.

  • Thats reak fying! Every Alaskan Airline pilot is sooo skilled!

  • that looked like it sucked lol, been there many times flying into aspen. good landing but very bumpy due to the mountains.

  • As an airline pilot myself, I thought the landing was fine.

  • Since there were no complications I think so too...But it was sort of more spectacular than those "regular" flights in the lower 48s.

  • thats "FALL OF THE WILD"

  • wow he maid a amazingly fast final approach and touch down like a mouse's feet.

  • It certainly had a lot of wind... its obvious.

Did he make his final approach really fast (especially when he was in low altitude) or am I wrong?

  • Y5aggeg :P

  • ncice view of the thrust reversers

  • This pilot is the man.

  • This pilot is the man.

  • This pilot is the man.

  • This pilot is the man.

  • Something about on the left after walking down the ramp inside the terminal is a smoking facility.

  • what did that girl say at the end?

  • That was a smooth landing for that kind of weather.

  • Im from Ketchikan and wind is norm now days

  • WHats there to do in Alaska besides making fun of the eskamos?

  • My guess is, you are a city person, with no mind expansion. Alaska is the most beautiful place in the United States. The outdoor activiyies are huge with excellent fishing. Fish bigger than you. The wildlife is also amazing. There are very few Eskimos in Alaska, they are referred to as natives, not Eskimos. Calling them Eskimos is like calling a black guy the "N" word. Talk about makinf fun of someone? Learn to spell...eskamos??? Shallow!!

  • Excuse me!! you have no sense of humor!! By the way I do enjoy the outdoors when I go to a Chicago Cubs game or a Chicago Bears game ;)

  • That landing announcment was far too premature.... Anything could still have happened, the reversers were just retracting and the brakes still fully operating. She really could have waited!

  • Comment removed

  • BECAUSE it's my job in the airline I work for to adhere to safety regulations. Landing is clearly a time when something can go wrong. If the attendant is speaking, a command from the flight crew to evacuate could be delayed... GET IT? It's safer to wait until the aircraft is off the runway before speaking.

  • Comment removed

  • the pilot really good to handle that plane like that in a windy day like that

  • Despite their size, planes have an awesome turning radius

  • They really stood on those brakes

  • Had to...small runway.

  • No it isnt, their runways are 6500 and 7500.... Whats small about that for a 732?

  • there is something to be said for having confidence in your equipment...that bird was doing some flying and the pilots did a great job handling it.

  • Great shot of the buckets!
