Nah Soldiers i knew joined infantry or armor or any real combat arms group for 2 reasons, ! we like to be destructive and to w have Balls and brains enough to do it all, rear echelon people just dont have the constitution for the harder life i the mud that some of do
Most soldiers do not join infantry because of a lack of options but because it is a lot more interesting then sitting behind a desk all day and being harassed by CSM. Now day because of a num they are sending out pog attached to take up seats. When I was in I watched to many of these FOB hero's who never left the wire but think they are the shit and complain about working a 9-5. Then when we got back from mission and were harassed by officer for being dirty or not doing the dog and pony show.
The average 11 series scored higher on asvab then non infantry according to Army times. The average infantry company has more people with higher education because they need more NCOs then say a mess unit. The sad part about all of this is that most of the support units with tons of people require a lower score then infantry.

She really did a beautiful job, politics aside, doing her bit, entertaining the troops, visiting the wounded, et al. But the best clip was the one where she's about to turn in (having been billeted in one of Saddam's palaces) and a Chinese 107mm whiz-bangs nearby. The look on her face is priceless.

I've cleared little pice of shit huts and houses. I'm proud of my CAB. I dont even think you have ever left the wire.
The regulations for a CAB are retarded let alone the CAB itself. For CIB's the regulations state one must be fired upon and return fire, ie. a firefight; unlike the CAB were all you have to do is be there or near some kind of activity. Thats what a combat patch is for, so why the need for a CAB, . all the pogues and non-Infantry wanted something to make them look just as good, but nobody respects anyone wearing that gay CAB "Cock And Balls"
So by Army regs, did anybody qualified for a CAB on this attack? When I was there in 04, according to the way it was written, you could qualify for a CAB, but I don't think anybody got one for sitting in a bunker.
Not sure what the reg was in 04, but the current reg to qualify for a CAB in an indirect fire attack you must "be within 50 meters and no barriers between you and the blast." Most of us already had a CAB or a CIB, but if there were guys who got one for sitting in a bunker..that woulda been just gay.
