  • amazing! Return child to a time that was

  • I've always thought that geeky loser guy from this series turned out to become Bill Gates..

    I wouldn't be surprised :D

  • What was the robot used for in Riptide? I'm sure someone knows.

  • todo tiempo pasado fue mejor. definitivamente¡¡¡¡¡

  • Joe Penny:Pre "Jake and the Fat Man"

Mike Post (music):Pre "Law & Order"

  • @Tstorm73 Mike Post has been around forever. He wrote one of my all-time favorites--the theme from Rockford. Oh, he also did Hill Street Blues. And I think he did A-Team as well.

  • @greg55666

he also did the magnum p.i. theme

  • @nedbigby7 the robot was really just a creation of the nerdy dude played by thom bray creation, he used it to bring him drinks, the newpaper and things like that

  • I remember this show, but I don't remember it looking so cheesy. I guess nostalgia really does give you rose-colored glasses.

  • @Wyrmwould It really does....

  • 80s where the real life was!

  • the Boz and Roboz was the best !

  • @;26 I thought OOOOOOOH, and heard it too :)

  • for me the best theme of the 80's series just before Simon & Simon

  • daraaa babam bambam diiiiidededeeeee.......haaaaaaaa awesome 80s classic

  • looks like a fun tv show

  • I remember watching this when i was a kid with my dad.awesome

  • I forgot about that orange robot lol

  • That 58T doesn't look so good in pink. IMHO

  • The problem with Riptide was that it wasn`t on in a kid-friendly timeslot. It followed The A-Team as well on Tuesday nights, whose act was tough to follow then.

  • Awesome! The Boz was ahead of his time.

  • i loved thisshow!

  • TURN RIGHT BOZ ! TURN LEFT BOZ !!! BHUAHAHAHAH XDXD

  • Steven J. Cannell, and Frank Lupo owned '80s television.

  • @zepherford how about glen a. larson? i don't recall everything he did, but wasn't it like knight rider, fall guy, a-team etc.?

  • @zepherford ...yeh, and Mike Post and Pete Carpenter owned the TV themes production of the 80s ;-)

  • Fuckin series sucked the only thing I liked was the helecopter the actors were a fuckin joke

  • I remember arguing with my mom who was cuter..I liked Joe and she liked Perry.

  • @slosh29 Your mom is pretty cute, too.

  • Man what I wouldn't do to go back to the 80's great shows, ladies wore some hot clothes and the times were laid back and fantastic,to all the ladies that lived through it back then thank you for the great times!!!!!!!!

  • I had the Hot Wheels of the car. Good times.

  • Perry King and Joe Penny in their underwear...sigh...so many youthful daydreams spawned by that short scene...

  • How could a show with an orange robot go wrong?

  • this show could work today to lots of pretty girls a cool old chopper the robot please dear god no more reality shows

  • those kick-ass 80's TV themes!

  • after the cold war and into the 2000s Hollywood and the country has been taken over by unimaginative p.c. zombies

  • Aaa the good days. When TV meant quality. Not some politically correct "deeper meaning" bullshit . GOD I miss the 80's!

  • @bigwhitehound I agree with you 100% I wish we could bring the 80's back, I dont want to live in the 2000's anymore.

  • @52DODGEM37 Agreed. Somehow since the middle 80s the world has become more darker to me. I miss the colorful and quite futuristic 70s and 80s. Ok, i'm getting older, but i feel some kind of "pressure" around me. Nowadays dreaming and fantasy is somehow not allowed and essential parts for that are missing. No wonder that People get sick.

  • You can still find some of the rare RipTide toys on ebay from time to time. I saw a sealed in the box 1/25 scale of that red corvette with the flames on the sides for 10 bucks. RipTide didn't "take off" like The Dukes of Hazzard did or Knight Rider though. It was still a cool show, with a Magnum P.I.-feel to it.

  • What else did, or has Thom Bray been in?? That name is so familiar!!

  • @Manlyrog The only other thing I saw him in other than a spate of 80's TV was John Carpenter's "Prince Of Darkness"-hes was the guy Alice Cooper impaled on the broken Ten-Speed Bicycle.

  • Joe Penny *swoon*

  • I own the Roboz. :)

  • I love the BeachBoys part :)

  • Riptide is supposed to be coming back in 2011 or 2012!!

  • I Loooove that Sikorsky S-58T and that Bell 206 Jetranger!

  • Loved the ROBOZ (the robot pelican). Also, I remember when John Astin played a character named Larry/Lenny The Bum. He was really a millionare and gave Boz a sleek helicopter. Perry King's character wanted to retire the Mimi, but Joe Penny kept her. Bring RIPTIDE to DVD.

  • Theme shows always they always had something like boat a car plane something that make them really work and you just forget about life if you wanted Reality you turned on the news or walked outside

  • that fucking helicopter fucked me up for life.

  • I watched the show constantly, just for the Screaming Mini helicopter scenes. Pink choppers WERE cool in the 80s.

  • @K4rt80y totally. it was basically a show about a kick ass pink helicopter, with some other stuff thrown in. I don't remember any of the other stuff.

  • Funny how bullets never hit anyone in the 80s TV shows.

  • Oohhhh...Thom Bray!!!!! Makes me so wettt!

  • the 80s had a vehicle show for every conceivable type of transportation: knight rider, street hawk, airwolf, and this. i suppose it lacked a show about jets and submarines? lol

  • omg this looks so corny

    MUST WATCH

  • Thom Bray is my drama teacher!!!!

  • @CAHilarious

That's awesome! Ask him what the Roboz is doing these days!

  • @ShmorgelBorgel He (Thom Bray) actually just started growing out his beard for a musical!! :D Hahahah. He just taught us an acting scene. Just recently, he showed us an episode of Riptide and i thought it was hilarious because he looks exactly like him when he was younger! :) hahaaha <3

  • @CAHilarious

Well, please tell your teacher I have many fond memories of that show--which I used to watch when i was about your age. I was thinking of it because of the recent death of Steven J. Cannell, the show's producer.

  • @ShmorgelBorgel sure!! I will tell him. I know about Steven,.. Bray did a performance or a speech thing about him, and it was soo very sad!!

  • give me back the 80's !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @FLORENT2222

I didn't appreciate the '80s enough when I lived through them, but now I want them back!

  • @FLORENT2222 FARK YEAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH BROTHER!

  • Me habría gustado ver por el History Channel, el programa Cementerio de Maquinas a ese helicóptero oxidado y pudriéndose.

I would have liked to see on the History Channel, the program Cemetery machines that chopper rusty and rotting.

  • Can't remember a single espisode. too bad. remember that stupid helicopter.

    Rip stephen canning.

  • I thought this was a cool intro growing up.

  • That helicopter is beyond ugly.

  • i love it.........riptide, hardcastle & mccormick, A-Team, Knight Rider, Tj hooker, all these great action series i grown up with..........the shows these days are totally crap.......

  • This series was a second rate version of an Australian series from the late 1960's.

  • hhhhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaa los 80´s esta serie la vimos en colombia, me encantaba el elicoptero y un robot que habia.....que tiempos aquellos

  • funny

  • this show was back when there was reason to watch tv.

hard to believe now looking back at all the cool shows and great music we had in the 80's.

  • I remember watching this but wtf was it about? were they boat inspectors or what? and where'd they get a robot?

  • I so do wish this series with Perry King and Joe Penny was shown in Australia. Is this TV Show available on DVD? There was a Riptide series over here starring Ty Hardin, anyone remember that?

  • And if memory serves correct, didn't Boz(the nerdy guy), always break his thumb when he punched someone because he always kept his thumb covered by his fingers when making a fist? I think it was running gag on the show if memory serves me correctly

  • @brounbuck

I remember that too, now you mention it

  • perry king and joe penny was in vietnamwar 1965!!

  • @dragonquest20 Perry King was born in 1948 so it is possible that he may have served in Vietnam. Joe Penny was born in 1956 making it impossible for him to have served in 1965 as he was 9 yrs old at the time.

  • It is a trip going trough these obscure old (oh, dear lord, did I say old?) shows and see how many others have looked them up! Not as obscure as I thought!

  • What was the name of that little robot?

  • @wahbal76 Roboz was the name of the robot created by Boz.

  • Joe Penny was just too gorgeous! I was sooo in love with him!

  • great theme-but isnt the show Somon & Simon on water?

  • Yeah, the good ol' times. They were so nice and simple... ;-)

  • i wonder what those chicks look like now lmao

  • i think i remember this

  • I didn't see so many Jews in the credits, WOW!!!!

  • I remember in the beginning dude was about to touch the girl in the red shorts butt, and in my 8 year old mind, I was like, who would want to touch a girls butt???

  • thanx ARL007...wow..thats a long time..Ill google it , I was a big fan back then..!

  • men! This was my favorite tv show back in the day..whatever happenned to Joe Penny?Anyone knows?

  • Last time I saw Joe Penny, he played the villian in a TV movie about a dentist who rapes patients under anesthesia. This was over a decade ago.

  • Screaming Mimi !

  • El helicopetro simpre tenia problemas para encender...jajaja

  • good tv series

  • Screw the vette, I loved the robot.

  • One of my favorites... Loved the vette as a kid.

  • I didn't know Jeff Foxworthy has a show in the 80's!! LOL

  • @KRN762 ummm...that's Perry King.

  • @JerryBrownTopCop4Gov

It was a joke. If you look at a pic of Jeff Foxworthy from the same time period, he does bear a striking resemblance to Perry King.

  • I didn't get this show

  • I use to live vicariously through these shows. Somehow made life more interesting and gave me something to look forward to? Poor kids now a days have 'Law and Odor'... yipee! Who wouldn't want to live in the tropics, be a P.I., drive a Ferrari, have a buddy who owned a Hughes 500, babes galore, and getting shot at every day! Good times!

  • @bythedog the days of the 80s action shows are long gone. Although your right about the law and order crap.

  • @bythedog Getting shot ? I don't think anyone got shot in 80s TV series.

  • @supercreamysperm

Getting shot 'at'. Miraculously people very rarely died.

  • @bythedog you said it brother

  • @bythedog

And most of all, the series had awesome intros, now it's a 10 s intro and one minute recap for the dumb viewer, who lost his memory.

And the 'getting shot at' made my day! Lol

  • @bythedog Where do I sign up?

  • @bythedog Now these two actors are reduced to doing the abusive evil husband role on lifetime movies.

  • @bythedog

And a robot! Do not forget the robot!

  • this is often a overlooked show when great 80s show are listed, but I liked it

  • this was a cool show back in the day

  • sikorsky 'chopper doesn't like you hitting it... silorsky ' chopper will cut engines right when you you turn off camera

  • This show was pure genius. It managed to rip off both Simon & Simon and Magnum P.I. in one fell swoop.

  • I love this song

  • I guess going from here to Jake and the Fat Man wasn't such a stretch for Joe.

  • In the 80's Stephen J Cannell was the man!!!

  • @yojuacas and he got the part as a bad cop in renegade ^__^

  • This was a goofy fun show. Me and my cousin Tom were big fans. I never missed this show..sometimes it made me laugh so hard that I would be crying. Love that opening sequence too..you never see anything like that nowadays. It's to long for today's shows I guess.... the networks would never allow it.

  • Einfach sympathische, kauzige Charaktere von "der Yacht nebenan"! Unvergessen!!

  • I used to watch this as a child with my ma. Mental. I l live in Ireland and was born in 85 so I presume some crappy Irish or British station bought the rights to so it maybe around '89. I was soo young.

  • If anyone is interested the first season of this is out on DVD now.

  • I think they were P I s with a techno nerd that helped them with his computer, something they had no clue how to use. Guess watching an episode would help refresh. Wasnt Knight Rider or A team, but entertaining none the less.

  • @kizzie48 they had there nerd just like Criminal Minds has that lady computer nerd

  • what the hell was this show even about???

  • THIS TIME NO SAY TO THE ACTORS WHAT THE STOCK PRICE IS AN OTHER NO CAN BY THE OUT BY THE BAR SPY AN COP FUND, WHAT TOOK PLACE WAS A FUN SHOW OTHER THEN THE WEATHER ,

  • JuJuhuuuu

  • The 80's had the best intros hand down!

  • Was this the show with Jack Bauer and the clock?

  • Tuesdays,right after the A Team no?

  • @kizzie48 Yep. When I needed to be punished for a minor infraction I was denied Tuesday night television by my parents. Those cruel monsters!!!!

  • @rickygervais1776 that guy in he glasses died of aids. poor man

  • @sierria64 Thom Bray is very much alive.

  • I used to watch this show as a kid!! wow..

  • OHHHH DAMMN I remember this show. I miss this

  • Oh, man. The memories. ^^

Thanks for finding and uploading this. ^^

  • do any body remember this tv-show on NBC-tv going against the ''love boat''[abc-tv] around 1983-84 season with this old lady saying with a shot gun ''they are going to blow ''the love boat '' out of the water.

  • do any body remember this tv-show on NBC-tv going against the ''love boat''[abc-tv] around 1983-84 season with this old lady saying with a shot gun ''they are going to blow ''the love boat '' out of the water.

  • i want a helicopter just llike that one. only BIGGER and GAYer!

  • I remember reading article about the H-34 helicopter "Screeming Mimi", and it named the company that owned and operated it for filming movies and TV shows, and how the helicopter was actually always in tip top shape. I always wanted my own Screemin' Mimi.

  • I loved this show, I see Joe Penny in shows sometimes I wonder what happened to the other guys.

  • seaon 1 is out

  • loved it!

  • Its was back to back with the A-Team on Tuesday nights. A-Team then Riptide.

    Memories.

  • Perry King actually auditioned for Han Solo in A New Hope but lost to Harrison Ford and ended up playing him in all 3 Star Wars UPN Radio plays in the 80's.

  • NCIS

  • Stephen Hawking totally ripped off the Riptide nerd, except for the walking part.

  • I watched this show as a teenager when there was nothing else on

  • This brings back memories.

  • Talk about a "guy's tv show" two hunks and one computer nerd with a helicopter , a boat ,and a robot. Featureing bikini clad girls. Solving mysterys and saving the day.

  • i second that, cannot say the same with tv shows these days

  • been trying to think of what this one was for years. thanx for the post

  • mike post & john carpenter...those guys have a knack for awesome music and intros !!

  • @Jetcut83 and in 1983 they composed 3 theme songs at once:

In early 1983, they already created The A-Team and by late 1983 they created this show's (Riptide) theme song and Hardcastle and McCormick

  • @megamanj2004

...and we were both so excited about the guys-

I just now realized that I wrote John Carpenter instead of PETE Carpenter ^-^

    but John is also great!

  • UGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! Dam, what happened to all the great writters in Hollywood? Oh thats right, they're in some rich ass retirement home. Writters today are just lazy and pussified with all this reality show garbage!!! What happened with great shows like this and the great american stuntman???!!! I wanna see Fall Guy, RipTide, The Dukes, Magnum, The A-Team, and of course...Tales of the Golden Monkey. Hollywood sucks nowadays. Whoever started that reality shit needs to be shot square in the head.

  • I used to love this show. Saw them all.

I loved the "Screamin' Mimi". A great old 'copter.

  • i'm old enough to have watched this show originally along with 100's of other 80's shows....damn i feel old

  • @9998833 Right there with you brother.

  • were not getting older were gettin better;) I saw all these too!

  • lol wtf

  • is that jeff foxworthy?

  • There's no way in hell a network would allow a 90 second opening credit sequence nowadays. Hell, even 60 seconds is out of the question. After all, they have to squeeze in just ONE more commercial, don't they? I mean, they don't even let the END CREDITS play anymore without squeezing in a commercial.

  • all about the money....

  • @breakwellpicturez True blood's got one..and is a very good one!!

  • @breakwellpicturez Exactly the same here in France!

  • @breakwellpicturez : too true. However, they will show two minutes of 'last week on such-and-such" as though we're idiots that can't remember seven days ago (and sometime show a 'next week on' that has so much that the show itself is barely a surprise

  • @breakwellpicturez

Guess again - Dexter gotta be 90 sec or longer

  • Guess again yourself. Dexter is on cable, I said network.

  • @breakwellpicturez

We don't differentiate (network & cable)- Dexter was on a "free to air" channel (no receiver/payment needed)

  • @breakwellpicturez And yet, the opening credits and theme songs of those shows are as (if not more so) iconic that the shows themselves.

  • @breakwellpicturez Hahah no shit! What you just said is what put the legendary Mike Post and Pete Carpenter out of business. Sad Sad Sadddddd.

  • @breakwellpicturez Truer words have never been spoken.

  • damn man the 80s life seemed so simple and cool back then!

  • It was!

  • Where was Jeff Foxworthy?

  • I don't think that was Jeff Foxworthy. That dude with a mustache was Perry King. This was before he evolved to Lifetime's made-for-TV (Lifetime Network).

  • the internet is rapid but simple interaction is devolved ie;closing blockbuster/boarders.food delvery to home.office we loose touch of the basic human elements ie;humanity etc, meeting people and in this show smoking, beer drinking robots and a goofy helicopter that needs an oil change;)
