Any rebeling in any country in the Eastern bloc was dealt with swiftly and brutally. They could get the resources they need from them. China has more oil than the US did and Russia is one of the top ten countries with the most oils. Any rebeling in any country in the Eastern bloc was dealt with swiftly and brutally. Examples of this are Germany, after WW2 against having a communist government, Hungary, Where they tried to break away from the Warsaw Pact and failed, and Czechoslovakia, also wanted to not be under Russia's control.

The US and USSR at the time would have kept going but resources ran out for Russia and some bad choices were its downfall. If the US did stop fighting the USSR, the USSR would've won plain and simple. Then the US had bragging rights for a couple of years but that's worn itself out and we're on our way out as a superpower. They could get the resources they need from them. China has more oil than the US did and Russia is one of the top ten countries with the most oils. And if we didn't pit Russia and China against each other they would be close allies and would share each other resources. Also having the most resource didnt matter it was the nuclear weapons.
