  • So it makes no sense at all to argue that God is displeased with musical instruments in NT earthly worship when HE clearly IS pleased with musical instruments in worship in the OT and in the Heavenly realm as described in the book of Revelation in the NT.

  • Also, the book of Revelation - in three different pasages - describes God being worshipped by angels playing harps and singing. So just use your common sense: musical intruments in worship were pleasing to God in the Old Testament; and are pleasing to God in the heavenly realm as described in the book of Revelation; but God is displeased by musical instruments in NT eartly worhip

  • The NT tells us to speak to one another in "Psalms, Hymns, and Spiritual Songs." The Greek word for "Psalms" is "Pslamos" which means "to pluck or strike a cord or string of a musical instrument." You guys have to look deeper than the KJV and learn what words actually meant 2000 years ago. Go ahead, look it up.

  • Well, my belief is that using instruments during worship isnt authorized in the bible. Think of your objective of getting to heaven as a math equation. a+b=c. Musical intruments are just another variable to the equation. ex. (f,g,h,e,w etc...) why would you add another variable, and possible get the final outcome, or answer in this case, wrong? Same with drinking, smoking, tatoos, peircings, etc.... Keep things to there simplest, Base, form, and it will be easier to accomplish your goal of heaven.

  • Heaven is full of music and singing. God is the starter of music. But we should,nt copy the worldly style of music. with all the insane noise and screeming etc.

  • Puke - This man is a small concrete idol to himself when is he going to retire? Hasn't he sold enough books yet?

  • read Psalm 150 :D

  • What a sad and pointless question.

  • Yes but you must understand that Paul says in 1st Corinthians that Singing is prefered over instruments, to sing is more apropriate according to paul, because it is alive while instruments are dead, also paul states that people are more apt to get saved from the words of songs then music, paul says, how can they tell the words to the song if they dont know the song. The KJV says it is a commandment of Jesus. I voted Yes, I loved it. Although i disagree to an extent,(only partialy) he is great.

  • David used music, intraments, danced giving praise to the Lord. Cant pick choose things from Old testiment to fit an agenda.

  • @pjz1967 modern day christains follow the new testament though not old.

  • I'm majoring in sacred music to become a music minister. =)

  • There are circumstances that the New Testament is silent on like where the preacher stands and how to set up the seats. However, worship is not circumstantial: we are told to worship God by singing praises. In the Old Testament, the use of musical instruments was strictly under His authority. If I am to worship God in the assembly, then why don't I bring my own instrument to play along with the band? God does not leave the decision whether to use instruments in worship today up to the Church.

  • It is not that emotion is bad. It is that the enemy has influenced man to think that we only truly worship God when we can FEEL it. But the Bible shows us that we must walk in the light and that Jesus is the light. IE, follow what Jesus says to do in His Word and find joy in the promise of eternity and make a joyful noise from our relationship and understanding not try to GET a relationship by singing / playing a song. Some music only rouses emotion but doesnt stem from a worshiping heart...

  • Come on, in the Bible it has a verse to encourage us to use them.

  • As a musician, I would agree with him.

As long as we play the music for the glory of God, it's ok.

  • @maxhiner699 - As long as we know what IS to the glory of God. We can't just do what we like or think is right and say it is to the glory of God. That's why we are so blessed to have the Word of God to show us.

  • The church he is referring to is the Church of Christ. I grew up in that "denomination" although they claim they arent. Glory to God for releasing me from that group. If they were so "by the bible", someone ought to ask them why they dont greet with a Holy Kiss.

  • Amen to that! You'd have to eventually just exit the planet, and go home. We walk through this world, being a light to the darkness. We don't abandon it. It's so perverted to think on these terms. I hate boxes. Jesus is the only way!

  • If one took a strict interpretation of the regulative principle from the NT only, they would also have to exclude the use of microphones, lighting, carpet, and even Christian church buildings.

    Legalism is death.

  • @robertpiercy: Amen brother!

  • @robertpiercy - how do you interpret "legalism". I hear that word used so much but is it legalism to follow the Word of God and not the traditions of man? Obviously there are things which are an aid in modern living. The issue really is is anything we do (including the songs we sing, clothes we wear, life we lead in general) more about what we want and what makes us feel good and not really about praise the Lord?

  • @hihosilverlining2 When I say "legalism is death" I mean to say that adhering to a moral code to obtain a right standing before God is futile. Paul does an expose on this topic in Romans 3. In the end, he says, "Do we then overthrow the law by this faith? By no means! On the contrary, we uphold the law."

  • @robertpiercy - hi. Thanks for your response. Romans 3 reminds us not to boast because we have ALL have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Paul had a message to the Jews and "Gentiles" that reminded them that the acts of the Ceremonial laws and acts in the temple were looking forward to the coming of Christ, the true Lamb of God. The 10 commandments however were written by the finger of God and are His character. They are the mirror to see our need of cleansing by Jesus.

  • @robertpiercy - part 2 lol - so when we by the Word and the Holy Spirit grow in our relationship with Christ, we will want to learn the things He delights in and do them. Jesus says "if you love me keep my commandments" John 14:15

  • Yes, great answer. The regulative principle should take into account the whole of scripture. Anyone who rules out instruments based on their absence from the NT is not properly applying the regulative principle due to the commands in the OT for their use (Psalm 150 & 1 Chron. 25, for example). The regulative principle is meant for guiding elemental principles of worship, not fundamentalist impositions.

  • @bberchin The old testament is the old law. christians should follow the New Testament as they are instructed to. Sure the old testament Had a lot of great points to live your life bye.....But that was before jesus died for our salvation. Are you also suggesting we should go and sacrifice pigs and other goods to god?? That was in the old testament.
