@moosey62 I wouldn't say climbing K2 is either. Disrespectful to whom? You must know nothing about the ways of mountaineering if you could say that. So in turn, it doesn't really matter your opinion.
i was there in concordia.it is a place near k2 few hours walking distance i talked to a pakistani high altitude porter he was so exhausted of the climb i contactd him on walkie talkie. after few hours he was no more.. loss his life while rescuing a 61 years old climber from U.S... RIP who lost their lives on k2
Climbing mountains mean just putting your life to the mountain itself. Dieing from a mountain is not a shock for mountaineers.. All sorts of natural disasters happen up there, that's what gets me rushing to go to a mountain!!
"IT'S BEAUTIFUL, IT'S ACHIEVEMENT, I THINK IT'S FACING DOWN DEATH", It's more beautiful to search for peace chase down ur western government to stop conspiring on nations and causing so much death and pain to many middle eastern n other nations around the globe. Typical selfish ego's who seek nothing for humanity. Facing down death is only respected when you face and fight back Evil for the sake of humanity n freedom. True freedom not the fake American one n who whoever goes by it.
they do it for the attention also, ego will make you do some pretty weird things. If one runs for more than twenty minutes when not running from a cop or a lion; IMO they are running for someone else.
Graham Bowley's incredible book 'No Way Down' started me on my fantasy adventures climbing K2...............on that dreadful day in 2008, there were unforgotten yet unassuming heroes. Please read the book to find out.
@zabraoota1 .....have you read the book ???????.......in mentioning heroes, I believe there were many on that climb and most of them were Sherpas and the men that saved lives in purely doing their job. Some died helping others to live even when they were relatively safe themselves. Tell me....what is your idea of a hero !!!!!!!!
This happens alot with climbers maybe not to the extent of 11 people dying but people put every thread of energy in there body to make it to top and leave nothing to get down with
@hauser2808@un42n8karma Might sound whacked out. I'm talking day trips. Maybe running from a depressed hangover. 28,000' is whacked out. Bigger than a hangover. Guess I'm just agreeing with your statement. The mind doesn't care who it kills to get what it wants. It's a curious thing.
have this book its great not only for the story what happened but also good history and character of k2 anyone who loves k2 or in general loves mountain should give it a try
its a very silly way to go...if only half the enthusiasm funding and human ability of all the mountain climbs, was put into getting man into space and exploring planets - then we could call that real human progress...look beyond the mountain tops...way beyond
It was a great book and if it doesn't terrify you then you don't deserve to be on a mountain. Looking at the seracs looming over you as you traverse the bottleneck would almost be enough to make me want to stop.
@mimprincesa there are 40 heighest peaks of the world there in the north...k2 is the heighest of them and world,s 2nd...dangerouse deadly mountain..nanga parbath is another mistrey mountain also called the killer mountain....the most deadly in the world..this is pakistan....but it looks good in movies and videose..i am from north and i know how it is in reallity.....its beautifull but lethal as temp is from -20 to -40..
this makes me want to climb k2 even more..the feeling you must get having cheated death and the unbelievable achevement at reaching the top must be life changing..i really want to climb this mountain
@RayKalmNiam i suppose the achievement of climbing k2 is far more greater than everest..its probably cheaper too regarding the Chinese charging you up to 15,000 dollars for a permit to climb everest..its a hard choice :/
Really don't know what I would do if it came too turn around point and I was still two hours from the summit, turn back or just give in too death and reach the top. Would be a decision I would make up there.
I thought Kurt Diemberger's The Endless Knot : K2, Mountain of Dreams and Destiny, 1991 was a fascinating read about the disastrous 1986 K2 season and possibly a bit of a guidebook as to what can go wrong on non-guided high altitude expeditions.
I guess its sad because the extra weight of a rope for abseiling isn't that great. Summiting at 8pm is pushing things unless they were prepared for a night out and conditions were good.
way to capitalize off of this tragedy. you dont have the honor to write a book about this when you werent even there and probabaly arent even a climber.
@rexious5 this is a story you must not forgett, and he's is somewhone who said i will make a book of it. he did this for the people who died. and when you do that it doesn't matter if you are a climber or not.
@rexious5 Get your facts straight before judging people. He interviewed the climbers who survived extensively and they agreed that he should write the book BECAUSE he was impartial to the events.
Fascinating. Sounds like a great Xmas present book for my dad, who was a keen climber in his day. I'm certainly glad he never tried anything like this ogre of a mountain.
@level2seven also read "one mountain, thousand summits" by freddie wilkinson about this tragedy. felt it was better researched with regard to the nepalis involved in this.
People, stay at home...if you need adventures you can find it with trekking all over the Alps.
But this extreme climbers, are not useful, there are no need for any medical-scientific experiment.
They just to shed tears, and to risk more lives for the rescue operations.

Reckless behaviour. Disrespectful, even.
Some things are not meant to be done. Climbing up that mountain is one.

@moosey62 I wouldnt say disrespectful, if we werent meant to climb up it they shoulda put a big sign up!
