What happened to her was a tragedy. But it is an even bigger tragedy to lump all gun owners with the asshole who shot Giffords. 99.999999& of us gun owners are law-abiding people who hunt, target shoot, plink, or keep guns for self-defense. Besides, if large-capacity magazines were banned, he could buy one off the street (just like they do in the uk).
@HomleandSecurity I'm in canada. We don't have the same issues. What exactly WOULD you say is the cause of america's rate of gun death that is many many times higher than anywhere else? It's an unfortunate reality, but why is this if you feel that gun control can't deliver on the promise of safety, then what can? And why is everywhere else so much safer despite having these false safety laws? It's just really curious to me.
@no2religions There are two factors at work here. 1) Canada has a much smaller population, so of course there are fewer violent crimes. 2) We have the terrorist Democrat Party.
One more example of cenk and tyt being completely incorrect from their initial year ago conclusions of motive and cause, Little wonder these guys were scammed by hope and change. This was the doing of the Republican party according to Cenk a year ago.
Are you kidding me? American wouldn't even DARE push any legislation against guns... the right nut jobs would go crazy. Every other right though? eh, they'll take those away easy...
Here's the thing, banning high capacity clips won't do a damn thing. If he wants 33 bullets, he's gonna take 33 bullets no matter how many magazines he has to carry. Idespite all the gun regulation in the world, if a bad guy wants a gun, he can get a gun. That's the fatal flaw in gun control, it just takes guns away from the good guys. How about making it easier for responsible citizens to arm themselves? I know arizona has open carry, where are those guys?
Possibly some legislation to address the problem of Domestic Terrorism. Put some more oversight on Right Wing media. Of course limiting how many bullets can be in a gun.

@nadeemstine It's stupid that award-winning physics researchers have to spend a decade, and tens of thousands of dollars immigrating, but, Mexicans get a free pass.
And, people actually WILL work for less than they can survive on, and that just encourages exploitative environments to thrive, and harms both the immigrants, and the natives.
Republicans LOVE illegal immigrants, it lets them undermine unions, and the price of labor.
@jhle2011 no it wont stop the mass murder but it will limit the damage done by gun toting pyschos and the reload process gives the police an opportunity to react and bystanders an opportunity to escape
@severe8403 Reloading takes less than 2 seconds, and banning 20- or 30-round mags isn't exactly going to stop criminals from getting their hands on them.
@DeadFishFactory lol reloading what? you couldn't reload a dart gun in 2 seconds. You have to drop the clip were using, eject the last shell, grab a new clip from where u have them stored, slap in a new clip and cock it again....doing all this while your heart is pounding and chaos is ensuing around you.....2 seconds my ass. As soon as the shooter breaks for a second he's going to take a bullet. Giffords' shooter was taken down when he had to reload
I don't care how many bullets someone can fit into a magazine. I think we should limit who could get a gun and force people to do background checks anywhere they are, but I'm not limiting magazine size just because an incredibly great woman got shot, just like how thousands of great people died on 9-11, I still don't think we should erect metal detectors.
How about more stringent enforcement of laws prohibiting the sale of firearms to psychotics like Laughner who had a recorded history of mental disorder.
@liveecarbme any gun law only effects law abiding citizens... no matter how strict the laws are, it only effects the ones that follow the laws... the ones that don't follow the laws in the first place will have a gun regardless of ANY "strict" gun law...
I don't like Boehner whatsoever, but seeing him crying during this definitely makes me think that he really does have a warm and caring heart deep down. He may not show it all the time, but it definitely comes out here.
wooo!!!! so glad she's gone!!!! Maybe we can get someone else in who won't vote for military spending that kills hundreds of thousands of innocents overseas!!! (fat chance)
yeah!!! I'm so happy her last bill was a law that enforces something that shouldn't be enforced upon innocent people who are slaves instead of being able to control what they are allowed to put into their own bodies! Yeah go Giffords!
'Miracle' is a poor choice of word Cenk, when talking about surviving a shooting where other people were murdered. Especially when you're not even a theist.
it has been seen time & time again that gun control doesn't work. if he didnt have the 33 round mag he would have had 4 ten rounders, and it would have ended the same. What we need to do is enforce the laws already on the books, and repeal the one that are unconstitiutional.
Trying to use what happened to Giffords for more gun legislation and the infringement of the second amendment is like saying because a person was high on weed or drunk on whiskey he burned his whole block down while leaving the oven on. You can't legislate or protect us from assholes and morons.
@xxdonaldqxxx yes i use to like TYT but there has been some blatant attack from them on the first and second amendment. Cenk said that oh republican rhetoric is responsible for this and then that we need gun regulation. why can't ppl like him get it that regulations only stop law abiding citizens from getting guns, crazy criminals will always get guns because the ATF would just hand it to them (re: fast and furious)
Glad you think that. Go back to trollschool Donald. You're doing a pretty bad job, hell, you're not even entertaining.
That, or you really do believe the nonsense you say, which mean you're too disconnected from logic and reality for me to even bother explaining to you why what you're saying is absolutely fucking retarded.
@Amsah I think you're the one exhibiting troll like behavior. You make comments but refuse to debate, you do a lot of name calling ,yet have no clear viewpoint on the issue at hand.
Cenk, why do you always have something positive to say about sociopaths, ~John Boener is certainly one of those, You point out how endearing it was that Obama sang at a speech, when Obama is responsible for so much death & world destruction, ~why don't you go on about how endearing Ted Bundy was during his trial? Cenk doesn't make sense to himself is why.
@MirraSyren John Boener is a sociopath, he's is no different than Obama,Clinton,Pelosi,Bush,Rangle and probably ninety five percent of all politicos.
Here Cenk goes again, advocating unconstitutional government intrusions whenever they're liberal and then indignantly decrying them whenever they aren't as blatant disregard of the constitution. Anyone could get an AK with a 30 round magazine for under 200 bucks if they really wanted to on the black market. And that's without mentioning that it takes like 1.5 seconds to switch out a magazine.
@southrules Read her story? She's not a hero at all. She was shot, and lived. That hardly makes anyone a hero. She personally should have resigned alot sooner, because she couldnt really vote or listen to any of the congress meetings or hear them to discuss them on bills so bills and laws that needed to have been passed might not have because of that.
This is the advantage of the Democratic system, whether it be a parliamentary system or our system--it allows our populace to channel rebellion into the system. Don't like your Congressman, Senator or President? Vote him or her out, or get active in politics yourself. This is not a totalitarian regime. You don't need to shoot your leaders because you don't like them, you dumb crazy motherfucking extremists!
The number of bullets in a magazine didn't have anything to do with it. If it were only 10 round mags, the guy could have still done it, he would have had to reload more. The thing that needs to happen is to keep mentally unstable folks from getting the weapons.
@immrlizard How about a single shot muzzle loaded musket, the only thing the people who wrote the 2nd amendment could have possibly considered? The would slow down your mass killer sane or not!
"The number of bullets in a magazine didn't have anything to do with it. If it were only 10 round mags, the guy could have still done it, he would have had to reload more."
No, you're wrong. When was he stopped? When he paused to reload. So no he wouldn't have had to reload more. He didn't reload at all. So if he only had 10-15 bullets, there would have been less casualties and injuries.
@Mattm1986 Not only was he crazy, he was incompetent. It doesn't take more than a second to load a pistol like that. It is a bad argument. I don't remember what country it is but they made all handguns illegal and there was a rise in knife crimes. Then they went after knives. Solve the problem, not the weapon.
@UrbanZ0mbie spoken by someone who's never owned a firearms. i can reload any of my weapons in seconds, this guy was so bad with his firearm he couldnt clear a jam, mag size had nothing to do with it, it jam'd on the 10th round
yes Cenk, its a real same to let a national tragiety go by unexploited, someone should have used this event to pass an unpopular and useless law. Your right Cenk, some idiotic "Progressive" Cail. Douche should have been there to do that, Giffords would have loved it, her being pro-gun and all. Cenk you are a disgusting humam being, and the worse American ive seen outside fox newd
She is an American hero, she will do great things from here, helping to bring awareness to our slack gun laws that the psychopaths at the NRA keep pushing to slacken even more.
@SelfImmolator I'd argue that she's an American hero for attempting to bridge the gap between politicians and the people by offering her constituents direct, unhindered communication with her (as she had done many times before). She was aware of the volatile political climate and even expressed fear for her safety; yet, because of her democratic convictions (in a general sense, not a partisan sense) and her devotion to her constituents, she put herself out there.
@beasta so youre saying if politicians would behave like actual politicians...meaning putting the people who they represent in front of everything else then they would all be American Heros? And it doesnt seem like to me she did that (meaning since she took a bullet to the head...she has been recovering...NOT doing her elected job...so I wouldnt call her an American Hero)...
@123trymeout In today's Congress, which is more concerned with partisan gamesmanship than actually progressing the nation, yes, I would say that a politician like Gabby Giffords is an American hero -- a hero of the democratic process. All politicians with the audacity to put our nation and its people before politics are absolutely heroes. As for not serving on the House because she was recovering from a NEARLY FATAL BRAIN INJURY, I'm not really sure what you expect from her.
@beasta all I am saying...I dont think anyone would even know who she is or what she did if she didnt take a bullet to the head...otherwise Serving your country in either the miltary or elected...should be a honor...not a scam like it is today
@123trymeout Fair enough. I'm from Tucson, though, so I was (and still am) fairly invested in Gabby, even before all this happened. And you're right, she performed her job exactly how you expect politicians to perform. Unfortunately, in this day and age, such representation is scarce, and that's pretty damn sad. I bet Gabby herself would agree that she's not a hero, to be honest. Just doing her job.
@beasta I see someone has beat me to replying back with roughly the same point I was going to make. I personally don't see why she's an American hero. Your reason: that she took a risk by talking to her constituents, seems absurd. We don't call every police officer a "hero" because they patrol the streets, and that's far more dangerous and brave.
@SelfImmolator I do. I think police officers are heroes. As are firefighters; as are doctors; as are any people of whom we trust with our lives -- and aren't we essentially entrusting our lives to politicians. Of course, there are always corrupt individuals in every job sector, and I don't believe they are heroic, but I like to believe that there are individuals who do these kinds of jobs because they love their communities (or on a larger scale for politicians, America).
@beasta Ok I see. What you're calling a "hero", I call a "public servant". I have higher standards for what constitutes a hero. I'm wondering what you'd call the fire-fighters who rushed into the twin towers if they're all already 'heroes'. Anyway, semantics. Regardless of what term you use for public servants, perhaps we can agree that she did nothing special, she just did a fundamental part of her job: talking to her constituents.
How many fans of this site think that prohibition of marijuana and other drugs is a waste of time, does not stop the sale of drugs and interferes with personal freedom? Yet many of these same people are for the prohibition of firearms for self defense.
@mecher3k I think it ! Do you speak for everyone? I happen to think marijuana should be decriminalized and firearms should be allowed because we have a second amendment right to self defense. What do you think?
@xxdonaldqxxx yeah because all those people that died in columbine and the fort hood shooting from people bringing in marijuana is a real danger to society...wait...
Boehner's really got one of the ugliest crying faces... Like an orange that's completely rotten inside.

Encryption IS a weapon, albeit a passive one.
It's easily swayed the balance of power in international affairs, and turned the tide of wars.
It has shielded criminals and child molesters from prosecution.
Why are we letting private citizens implement it on their own computers?
They should at least have to register it, and turn their keys over to the local police.
What? You think that dis-empowering citizens could invite government abuse?
Hah!
That couldn't happen here!!
AnonymousElektron 1 month ago
What legitimate reason do you have to encrypt your files with AES256 algorithms??
Are you a pimp? A drug dealer? A money launder?
Why don't you just let the nice policemen examine your laptop?
What do you have to hide?
A child's live could be in danger if we don't search your laptop!
Why do you hate children?
There's no legitimate reason why a private citizen needs access to military-grade assault-encryption!!
We could have saved lives if we outlawed it!!!

@jhle2011 no it wont stop the mass murder but it will limit the damage done by gun toting pyschos and the reload process gives the police an opportunity to react and bystanders an opportunity to escape
severe8403 1 month ago
@severe8403 Reloading takes less than 2 seconds, and banning 20- or 30-round mags isn't exactly going to stop criminals from getting their hands on them.
DeadFishFactory 1 month ago
@DeadFishFactory lol reloading what? you couldn't reload a dart gun in 2 seconds. You have to drop the clip were using, eject the last shell, grab a new clip from where u have them stored, slap in a new clip and cock it again....doing all this while your heart is pounding and chaos is ensuing around you.....2 seconds my ass. As soon as the shooter breaks for a second he's going to take a bullet. Giffords' shooter was taken down when he had to reload
severe8403 1 month ago
@severe8403 Okay, do you even know how to use a gun? Have you ever used one? Judging by the way you describe reloading, I don't think you do.
And, like I said, banning 30-round MAGAZINES (not clips), would not prevent people from obtaining them.
DeadFishFactory 1 month ago
I don't care how many bullets someone can fit into a magazine. I think we should limit who could get a gun and force people to do background checks anywhere they are, but I'm not limiting magazine size just because an incredibly great woman got shot, just like how thousands of great people died on 9-11, I still don't think we should erect metal detectors.

How about more stringent enforcement of laws prohibiting the sale of firearms to psychotics like Laughner who had a recorded history of mental disorder.
liveecarbme 1 month ago 23
@liveecarbme any gun law only effects law abiding citizens... no matter how strict the laws are, it only effects the ones that follow the laws... the ones that don't follow the laws in the first place will have a gun regardless of ANY "strict" gun law...

it has been seen time & time again that gun control doesn't work. if he didnt have the 33 round mag he would have had 4 ten rounders, and it would have ended the same. What we need to do is enforce the laws already on the books, and repeal the one that are unconstitiutional.

The number of bullets in a magazine didn't have anything to do with it. If it were only 10 round mags, the guy could have still done it, he would have had to reload more. The thing that needs to happen is to keep mentally unstable folks from getting the weapons.

No, you're wrong. When was he stopped? When he paused to reload. So no he wouldn't have had to reload more. He didn't reload at all. So if he only had 10-15 bullets, there would have been less casualties and injuries.
Mattm1986 1 month ago
@Mattm1986 Not only was he crazy, he was incompetent. It doesn't take more than a second to load a pistol like that. It is a bad argument. southrules 1 month ago
@southrules Why do you say she's an American hero?
SelfImmolator 1 month ago
@SelfImmolator I'd argue that she's an American hero for attempting to bridge the gap between politicians and the people by offering her constituents direct, unhindered communication with her (as she had done many times before). She was aware of the volatile political climate and even expressed fear for her safety; yet, because of her democratic convictions (in a general sense, not a partisan sense) and her devotion to her constituents, she put herself out there.
beasta 1 month ago
@beasta so youre saying if politicians would behave like actual politicians...meaning putting the people who they represent in front of everything else then they would all be American Heros? And it doesnt seem like to me she did that (meaning since she took a bullet to the head...she has been recovering...NOT doing her elected job...so I wouldnt call her an American Hero)...
123trymeout 1 month ago in playlist Uploaded videos
@123trymeout In today's Congress, which is more concerned with partisan gamesmanship than actually progressing the nation, yes, I would say that a politician like Gabby Giffords is an American hero -- a hero of the democratic process. All politicians with the audacity to put our nation and its people before politics are absolutely heroes. As for not serving on the House because she was recovering from a NEARLY FATAL BRAIN INJURY, I'm not really sure what you expect from her.
beasta 1 month ago
@beasta all I am saying...I dont think anyone would even know who she is or what she did if she didnt take a bullet to the head...otherwise Serving your country in either the miltary or elected...should be a honor...not a scam like it is today
123trymeout 1 month ago
@123trymeout Fair enough. I'm from Tucson, though, so I was (and still am) fairly invested in Gabby, even before all this happened. And you're right, she performed her job exactly how you expect politicians to perform. Unfortunately, in this day and age, such representation is scarce, and that's pretty damn sad. I bet Gabby herself would agree that she's not a hero, to be honest. Just doing her job.
beasta 1 month ago
@beasta I see someone has beat me to replying back with roughly the same point I was going to make. I personally don't see why she's an American hero. Your reason: that she took a risk by talking to her constituents, seems absurd. We don't call every police officer a "hero" because they patrol the streets, and that's far more dangerous and brave.
SelfImmolator 1 month ago
@SelfImmolator I do. I think police officers are heroes. As are firefighters; as are doctors; as are any people of whom we trust with our lives -- and aren't we essentially entrusting our lives to politicians. Of course, there are always corrupt individuals in every job sector, and I don't believe they are heroic, but I like to believe that there are individuals who do these kinds of jobs because they love their communities (or on a larger scale for politicians, America).
beasta 1 month ago
@beasta They pay is pretty good, and those jobs can get you some serious ass
BorgKing001 1 month ago
@beasta Ok I see. What you're calling a "hero", I call a "public servant". I have higher standards for what constitutes a hero. I'm wondering what you'd call the fire-fighters who rushed into the twin towers if they're all already 'heroes'. Anyway, semantics. Regardless of what term you use for public servants, perhaps we can agree that she did nothing special, she just did a fundamental part of her job: talking to her constituents.

@SelfImmolator
