  • I have played/owned 4 dr zs. Terrible compared to my 59 tweed deluxe. No comparison. My friends (we are tone snobs) own 6 underwood guitars between us, and they agree my tweed deluxe is the best sound in the world.

  • @124slowhand They were terrible, but yet you kept buying them? I'd say your hand is not the only thing that is slow.

  • @TheCommonbondband Probably just gave em the benefit of the doubt, and kept trying different ones.. or is a troll. I know when I started venturing into tube amps, I really wanted a Marshall, but no matter which ones I tried ( tsl's, handwired pieces, beefed up jcm800s, etc) they just weren't for me. VHT and Elmwood ftw lol

  • @124slowhand Ummm ya...okay. I wouldn't say "best sound in the world". To each his own. Dr. Z is my personal favorite.

  • Plenty of headroom with my 1x10 and Ramrod and it will blow your pants off ...

  • My Tone Tubby Alnico works well with my Dr. Z Maz 38 Sr. It's a little darker/fuller sounding, so when I engage the EQ By-Pass foot-switch, the OD tones really sound smooth. And it takes pedals much better than the stock speaker. Nice demo!

  • Sounds fantastic man! U play very well.

I love my Z-28... just got the blonde 1X12 yesterday... first band practice tonight and they were all very impressed. plenty of head room! My lead guitarist looked at me proudly and said, finally you have a REAL amp!

I used to play a Fender hot rod deluxe... it is like going from the kid pool to the adults swim! A REAL AMP! I Love it!!!!!!

How do you protect yours out live? did you get a nice flight case? or sweet amp cover? I have to do something.

  • No, in fact I own the worlds greatest Tele . . . in fact the worlds top two

  • screw headroom, dirt is the shit,, go play an acoustic

  • The tone of that Ceramic Tone Tubby is great.

  • Sorry GMD, I own the worlds best Tele : )

  • What is the music on the intro in this?

  • i wish you'd do a video just showing all your guitars and amps :(

  • Man Dude, you got some nice axes bud!

  • i have a PRS CE-22,all mahogany, less than 2k, and it is a really well made axe. I replaced the DRagon II w/ a P90, and its a very good guitar, but you can get as good for less dough.

I have a Squire Tele with nice parts that is amazing. I have had offers to buy the Tele all the time...

  • great sound, Dr. Z amps are godly, but overpriced. There are a lot of great cheaper options out there if you know where to look.

  • I have this same amp.... only in head/cab format. It's FANTASTIC.

  • In an age where I think that guitars and amps are stupidly overpriced (Gibson...etc...), I think I can truly say that Dr. Z amps are the exception. I've never played one that didn't thrill me, and they're still built right. Dr. Z amps will still be thrillin' long after the competition's (more expensive) amps have bit the dust.

  • stupidly overpriced for you maybe. there are many things that are "stupidly" overpriced to ppl who cant afford them

I want a personal jet, but I think they're too overpriced

You pay for what you get, I have a $4k PRS guitar, and I've played it next to countless $1000 & under guitars, and so far...their tone, feel, look, craftsmanship, etc are NOWHERE near the PRS's, so I'm completely satisfied with my purchase.

They maybe out of price ranges for some, but that doesnt mean overpriced

  • PRS is good. No doubt about it....

BUT, never assume that you get what you pay for. Especially with amps or guitars! Some of the best sounding amps were built by the cheapest labor, slapped together, and sold for cheap. And let's not forget some of those cheap (really cheap), killer, tone monsters out there, that don't have the big name on the headstock, but could blow away any of the big guys in terms of tone.

These lessons just come with time, and age. Just wait, you'll see.

    :)

  • Best Amps I've ever heard : Bad Cat, Diezel, Matchless, & Dumbles.......I wish those were made by cheap labor, wait, no I dont! I'm glad that those were all handmade, point to point wiring, with no circuit boards.......let me know when you find one of these sold for "cheap".

I don't know many axes either that are tone monster's that are cheaply made/sold. I know that maybe back in the 60's you could've gotten a Gibson/Fender "cheap" in todays standards, but dont know that they're cheaply made

  • All good amps indeed!

But think about the Fender amps of the 50's and 60's, or the VOX line. But let's get deeper with the Danelectro killers that are out there, or the Valco made amps that made (Jimmy Page sound so great). Or the Magnatone amps that still don't have any equal. All great amps, all point to point, hand wired, made by cheap labor.

    Killer tone monsters!

    Now for the guitars.

Remember that they all need good amps so they can shine. Best g-tar in the world, sounds like crap, if played through a crappy sounding amp.

But just some of the tone beasts to be had:

Supro. Single coil PU's that looked like humbuckers. Pure screaming tone.

Danelectro. Made out of scrap parts. Nothing else like them.

Harmony. DeArmand single coils. Lusted after by Rockers and Jazzers for their tone. Tons of models out there.

    Kay. Same as Harmony.

  • cont...(last one)

There are amp and guitar companies that I don't have the space to mention. The Japanese have their own cool thing going. But the point is, when it comes to tone, price has nothing to do with it. A Sunn amp that went for 2K in 1972, can be had for $200 in a pawn shop today. Whereas a once cheap Fender amp, or VOX etc...

    See what I mean?

  • he just paid for the price tag and now he cries for some reasons.

  • *droooling*

  • i don't understand !

In this demo the tone tubby get the worst results IMO ( watch?v=jWK0sa7tlfI )

  • Not every amp will sound good with any one speaker it's all preference that is why speakers are voiced. A vintage 30 or a greenback wont sound good in all amps! Speakers are sort of test and go but some preferences and comparisons of specifications can help the right choice to be made. Personally I am not a huge fan of vintage 30s but with my Bugera v22 it sounds better to me than stock which isn't bad just different. -PK

  • Gearman dude, what happened to your jaguar amp? Do you still use it?

  • Not hearing much for mids. Sounds a lot like a Mesa running with the contour engaged.

  • @live2rock4u hmm, i definitely hear some nice mids, especially the low mids.

  • needs separate gain and master volume controls, but still sounds pretty damn good

  • these are some proper gear demos i must say!

  • Oh gearmanndude you whore, putting all your guitars out at once making us drool all over ourselfes. /jealousy

  • Sounds incredible! Had a Z-28 once and sold it...BIG MISTAKE. This is one of Doc's best designs.

  • I like it. Its got a way cool southern rock kick to it

  • no headroom

  • @taygoo13 Sometimes thats a good thing if your looking for low volume practice with a little bit of grit.

  • Wrong.

  • The EQ is HIGHLY interactive w/ the gain on this amp. Turn the T/B down to 9:00 and crank the volume... lots of headroom.

  • @taygoo13

I disagree - I own one and I get a lot of headroom. If you keep both tone controls below noon, you have a lot of clean headroom. The bass and treble add gain to the amp above noon. You'll have all the clean headroom you'll ever want with a single coil guitar, or turn down your volume a bit on a humbucker guitar. It is an EF 86 based preamp - so that tube has lots of headroom. This guys ears were bleeding when he made this video. Of course, I'm not playing to 20,000 people either.

  • @taygoo13 No there is pleanty of headroom but after the treble is past 12:00 it acts like a gain control. If you had the amp volume up loud and the bass and treble around 9:00 it would be very loud and not break up at all.

  • how many watts is this

  • 28.

  • why doesent it have middle

  • its an open back cabinet

  • which means?

  • @7ibanez7 Because it isn't needed.

  • why isnt it needed? why does like every other amp have it?

  • Middle knobs are typically just a variation of a volume knob. Since a guitar is a mid-range instrument it already has all the mids it needs, turning a "mid" knob up simply makes the amp louder. Many boutique amps don't have mid knobs as well, in the case of this amp it is supposed to be simple and therefore doesn't need it.

  • So if I'm wanting to play a Metallica riff, and I want there kind of ´signature´ sound, everybody says that they turn down the mids; that cant be the same as turning down the volume can it?

  • No, it's not. It is true that you can't scoop your mids w/o a mid control, but this amp is not made to play Metallica. That's really what I meant when I said it isn't needed, this amp is just fine w/o a mid knob

  • listen...this amp is made to make your guitar sound good and natural, like it should..metallica thought it would be cool to make their guitars sound like tit, so they cut all their mids, thus murdering their innocent guitar tone

  • no. that amp sounds tit without a mid knob

  • wow, great amp!

  • In Canada, these amps are called Doctor Zed.

  • @snoopjmcd

    Z sounds cooler.

    America: 1

    Canada: 0

  • @snoopjmcd In Soviet Russia, guitar plays YOU!

  • @snoopjmcd thats my nickname bro haha
