Rei isn't OVAs of the first season, but they are OVAs. However, Rei happens after Kai. The explanation for why Hanyuu is a ghost in Rei is probably because Rei is based after the "Miotsukushi-hen (Matsuri, game)" rather than "Matsuribayashi-hen (Kai, anime)", in which *spoilers*hanyuudies*spoilers*
