I just came to this page, first vid i watched, and already i have so much to say, but i will start with the starting at a young age, my 8 yr old nephew keeps calling me fat, and it makes me sad, it doesn't hurt me personally, I'm used to it (which is horrible for anyone to say) but I'm sure I'm not the only one he says it to, I'm sure there are kids his age he says it to, and he had to get it it somewhere, so there are other kids saying it in front of him, why is it engrained in kids so young?
Have you asked him what he thinks 'fat' means? Can he really define it? And if he does, ask him why he says it? Sometimes I think kids make jokes without really understanding that the words have real meaning and that they can cause real hurt. 8 is probably not too young to have that conversation. And not too young to call him out on using hurtful words (done in a nice way).
I was pretty much nodding my head along with everything that you were saying!
I can really hear the researcher coming out in you when you address these issues as well - it's a good thing though! Very analytical and considering all angles is good. I agree with you about the male perspective... it would be neat to have a male viewer of the month every so often, or even more so, individuals who subscribe to different races, sexual orientations, etc.
A lovely, smart introductory video.
