  • I think the very first lineup of Iron Chefs here was the greatest lineup, followed closely by the very last. :)

  • @archo89 do you have the episode octopus battle between Chen Kenichi and Cheng Kazuhiko? :)

  • Ugh, they got lazy and messed up the opening sequence.

Got BOTH Iron Chef Japanese and Iron Chef French wrong.

This is my first viewing of an Ishinabe battle, so this'll be fun.

  • Where is sakai!? D:

  • @EonFigure Ishinabe was the original Iron Chef French, Sakai wasn't an Iron Chef yet. It gets confusing because the title sequence has multiple discontinuites.

  • Anyone know what battle is shown during the opening when that chef beats Hiroyuki Saki??

  • I only wish Kaga actually was the Chairman, instead I find out that he's an actor, :(, BRING BACK IRON JAPANESE VERSION!!!

  • @rohannesburg he doesn't speak english, plus morimoto is over here in america, the all the chefs except for morimoto and kobe are in their late 60s and are retired or retiring (rokusabaru michiba is actually 82). chairman kaga is actually somewhat of a character, because the guys name is actually takeshi kaga, so the name is real but the character isnt.

  • it's so epic when they are just straing each other down once they pick the iron chef

  • I LOVE YOU CHAIRMAN KAGA!

  • @Moonwalk5000 It's Hans ZImmer I forget what the title is but it makes the entire show....

  • @yankeesfan2006 "Show Me Your Firetruck", from the Backdraft soundtrack.

  • I miss this guy the new American version Chairmen is shit...

  • @yankeesfan2006 I KNOW! and he calls Kaga his "uncle," which kind of pisses me off. I don't think they're actually even related.

  • @mokshalovely They aren't, but that's part of the "story", as it were. Don't forget that the man playing "Chairman Kaga" is also an actor, and the show is just that: a show put on for our entertainment while also showcasing the culinary advances in Japan by the top culinary artists.

That said, I also miss Kaga... his over-the-top-yet-refined style cannot be copied.

  • @PrinceOfAltea all true. but still, the American show pales in comparison to the original :)

  • whoa, is this pre-sakai or post-sakai.

  • @Averyofthemain - Pre. Ishinabe resigned after this battle, and Sakai took his place.

  • MOF: Mother F*****

  • I really love Iron Chef French Yutaka Ishinabe. But only one of them aired on Food Network, and that is this one.Even though it does not air on Food Network anymore, try to e-mail Cooking Channel to show the first episode.

  • 石鍋さんが唯一負けた回ですね。

  • Kaga-san = Badass.

  • SJAAAAAAQEEEE BORRRY§!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The chairman is a fucking badass ^_^

  • MEDDDDY

    KRISSSSMAS!

  • I loved it when Kaga had said, "Merry Christmas!!!!!!!!!!!" Better than politically incorrect saying, "Happy Hollidays!" Nice job in keeping Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior during Christmas Season!!!!!! ^_^

    Sincerely,

    Anita Jean Augenti (ajaugenti)

  • wow wow wow hold on.

since when is Nakamura the Iron Chef Japanese?

  • Since 1996, after Michiba retired. Morimoto took his place in '98.

  • ahhhh

    thanks~

  • i dont wanna sound like a queer or nothing, but id really like to have sex with the iron chefs right now

  • we all would. with chairman kaga watching from the balcony giving us his approval

  • if it meant I could have one of them cook for me, me too.

  • @CaptCow haha i remember i just watched orgasmo when i wrote that. LOL

  • Merry Christmas to you too, Kaga!

  • @RageFire12 Amen dude!

  • omfg when he said merry christmas that was fucking awesome. i LOVE kaga. god that guy is a badass

  • @chuckomaticka That was so wicked awesome!!!!!!!

  • So how come in the begining of the show they introduce Sakai and Nakamura, but when they actually bring out the Iron Chefs it's, Ishinabe and Michiba as Iron Chef French and Japanese respectively???

  • Sakai retired in the middle of that season, the lazy editors didn't bother to change the beggining

  • @DyingElement Ishinabe is the orginal Iron Chef French, Saki followed as Ishinibe san could not handle the pressure of Iron Chef... He complained that he could not prefect his dishes in the time limit aloted, plus Inshinbe san was a perfectionist... Which in term got him like a 19-1 Record in Kitchen Stadium...

  • @yankeesfan2006 his record was 7-1

  • Well, this was a special battle for Food Network back when it was originally aired, for Christmas obviously, so they didn't have Ishinabe in the intro, and it was during the time they were airing episodes with Nakamura in 'em so that's why you see Nakamura. This was the first and only time we ever got to see Ishinabe battling in America besides the 2000th dish special.

  • chicken ~~the chef make it look extra delicious .. mouth watering

  • Qui vais choisiSer?

  • "MERRY CHRISTMAS!"

  • He has a massive mouth.

Nearly everything ive seen him eat he takes in one bite

  • Two things:

One, I remember thinking "How do they stay so still when they're on those platforms?" But Ishinabe-san seems to have a problem staying still...nerves, maybe?

On the other hand, there's something about Ishinabe's still photo at 7:05 that just screams "badass".

  • My two things for your two things

One, I think they should have come up with a more comfortable pose for him.

Two, 6:56 has the same effect. Almost like the final boss of a video game, this major 'You wish to come after me, puny weakling! I shall fricassee you! MUAHAHAHAHAHA!' feeling. Michiba has that same look sometimes. None of the others have it quite as profoundly as those two.

Oddly enough, Ishinabe (7-1-0) and Michiba (32-5-1) have the best records. Coincidence?

  • Well, Ishinabe's pose is pretty much a mirror image of Sakai's...I don't think it was a matter of it being uncomfortable...

At that point, his grin just seems like one of those deviously evil ones...he may look like a friendly old man, but then when he starts cooking...OH CRIPES!

I don't think it's coincidence at all. They really know they can take down (almost) anyone they face. Though one wonders if Ishinabe had stayed longer...how would he have done?

  • If I am not mistaken Kaga is slowing down while speaking for the challenger. Good show on his part

  • It feels weird not to see Sakai up there!

  • My guess is because Ishinabe was only there for a very short period of time.

  • Yes. Ugh, don't even mention that mockery to me!

  • You can do a lot with chicken.

  • I believe Kaga is trying out some French, if I'm hearing him correctly.

  • "MERRY CHRISTMAAAAAS!!!! .... eh..." *crickets*

  • Where's iron chef Italy?

  • you mean Italian on the side actually but we can not see in that part we only see 3 rigth

  • This was from the early days of Iron Chef...he wasn't there originally.

  • i lol'd so hard at kaga's "MERRY CHRISTMAS"

  • I've seen a handful of Nakamura episodes, but never Ishinabe. How long was Ishinabe on the show? I don't think that long. When Hattori attempted to become an Iron Chef, Kaga said it had been seven months and Sakai was already there...so I'm guessing his tenure was EXTREMELY short...but how long was it exactly?

  • I think Ishinabe was on for 7, 0r 8 episodes, and only lost one, or was undeffeated.

  • He only lost one. The show began in October 1993 and Wiki said Sakai started in early 1994, so just two months. He quit due to stress.

  • Your Quick, thanks. I have the Iron Chef book that was but out with Food Network, but not sure were it's at right now!! LOL Love Iron Chef!!

  • I love the Japanese Iron Chef. I HATE Iron Chef America with a passion.

  • Yeah, Food Network didn't show very many of Nakimura's battles, and I believe this was the only battle of Ishinbe's that they showed, except for a special one were Sakai, Ishinabe, and a chef named Joe were on a team, angainst three other french chefs. I used to have that one on VHS were I had taped it. A great battle it was!! The secret ingredent was like 5 of the most expensive ingridents in the world. Truffels, Foi Gras, Champange, and I don't remember the others.

  • I bet caviar was one of them.

  • Actually, I think canier was one! Thanks!!

  • lol... chef named joe...

I think it was Etsuo Joh, it was the 2000th dish special, All French vs. All Chinese. Archo has it.

  • Ishinabe only had about 6 or 7 battles if I remember right before he retired. I'm guessing Food Network didn't air his battles much, even in the re-runs, because I watched the show a TON and don't recall them ever airing any.

  • Anyone else notice that they show the incorrect introduction at the very beginning? They show Sakai and Nakamura instead of Ishinabe and Michiba.

  • hmm...the chairman didn't open up with his usual questions...

  • merry xmas to chairman kaga

  • M.O.F

    the Meal of Fighters

  • love how chairman kaga flinches after biting into the bell pepper.

  • I love the restraint of the Japanese audience. If Oprah were to say Merry Christmas the way the Chairman did, everyone in the crowd would be screaming and having heart attacks. Gotta love it.

  • "If Oprah were to say Merry Christmas the way the Chairman did, everyone in the crowd would be screaming and having heart attacks."

    Now that's a funny thought.

  • Which is why I cannot watch Oprah. Sorry. :(

  • THANK U!!!!! LOL u are my hero this is the best show of all time :D :D

  • well Iron Chef is just outsed, they want to be outsed cause they are chefs to and have to run restaurants.

  • The BDJ in this battle is hot.

  • is ishinabe new or old im used to seeing, michiba, kobe, sakai, and kenichi up there, but i've never seen ishinabe before.

  • Ishinabe was there for a very short time before Sakai.

  • fuck yea!!!

  • The Challengers used to win all the time in the early years. I remember Sakai was on a three match losing streak at one stage

  • is there probably a chance a challenger will win?? for me the iron chef is definetly and expert, and has yrs of experience compare to the challengers.

  • damn this show has class

  • Iron Chef = BEST DUBBING EVER lol

  • It's funny to see how maniacal a character the Chairman was in the earlier episodes - by the time this show ended its run in Japan, Kaga's character was a little more subdued (but only a little more...)

  • Still, he was always quite a character! Ya had to love him!

  • I love Ishinabe in this battle. We barely see him in other battles.

  • I think he got the sack and then we saw Sakai

  • Nope, he retired, saying the pressure was too great.

  • battle chicken! brill.
