....actually, quite informative and entertaining video. Just in case you play trumpet or another brass instrument, I think you might find some trumpet and brass tutorials quite intriguing over at YOURBRASSINSTRUCTOR's Channel.
That was future trumpet giant, Chuck Findley, at the ripe old age of nineteen, who caught the cymbal stand and saved the day. The lead/solo alto was future sax star, Ernie Watts.
wow! at 5:07 that crash cymbal stand takes a dive but a quick, cool handed trumpet player not only saves the song but the trombone player as well. Not to mention the trombone player who just happened to be standing at the time the whole thing happened. When they got on the bus that night I'll bet I know who the hero was....Buddy was very lucky....

just throwing this out there.. who did buddy use to set up and tune his kits..? did he undertake this himself ? i tell you why in this kit the hieght diference between snare and floor is quite large, and the snare is not angled forwards either, makes you wonder. any thoughts people(Buddy experts).
@rdangelo It appears that he is, his was playing the top of the chord at the end, you can see the other guy stop for a second and chuck was playing higher, maybe he had his lead player at the end at this time, you never play higher than the lead player or band leader in the case when trumpet leads the band, unless they say.
or at least all the good ones. And I actually forgot about Mike Douglass. This vid/audio is very, very good. Looks like "Fibes" rather than his usual Slingerland kit. Sounds great!
It was Jay Corre, Don Menza, Pat LaBarbera, Sal Nistico (really short) then Steve Marcus in 1975 with Bob Mintzer. I love the way Mike Douglas didn't get "Trane"
@scopions84 umm no dude. Travis is a great drummer, but there's no comparison to Buddy Rich. First of all, It's a different style of music. Second, Buddy Rich is simply an amazing drummer and plays a lot more complex stuff than Travis.
Why don't you go compare Travis Barker to someone who plays a slightly more similar style of music. Listen to Keith Moon. Travis Barker has nothing on him either. These were drummers leading the way to new styles and sounds...Travis is nothing new or special.
KRO222: Only a huge BR fanatic ( and I am one! ) would really be aware of his Fibes period, because outside of the Fibes SFT 690 COF snare drum, which he continued to play throughout his Slingerland endorsement, Buddy only played the FULL Fibes set for four months! From what I have researched, he played the full set from July of 1967 through late Fall, then of course on to Slingerland, where he stayed for 9 years!
Thanks! I always thought he went right from Vox to Slingerland and never knew that he ever played a Fibes set. Of Course I did know about the notorious Fibes snare drum that Buddy often used instead of the Slingerland models they were paying him to use.
KRO222: Buddy wasn't all that knocked out with the Fibes drums, excepting the SFT 690 COF snare drum of course!, so when then president/owner of Slingerland Don Osborne Sr. made BR the offer to play/endorse Slingerland, Buddy jumped at the chance, which also included a monetary stipend, as you well know. BR would have probably kept playing the Fibes set if the Slingerland deal hadn't materialized, or until another drum company "ponied up" with some drums/bucks!
KRO222: I also want to mention that the hardware Buddy is using with his full Fibes set is a mix of what Fibes offered at the time, and some from his Rogers set. The BD pedal is his Rogers Swivo-Matic, and both "L" arms are also Rogers. I have this complete show on vid, and there are some GREAT close-ups!
yea ;He was helping to Launch 'Fibes' HE AND Grausso knew each other. Heres a PIECE FOR YOU. the ORIGINAL FIBES SNARE was A PROTOTYPE MADE FOR BUDDY W./ ROGERS hdwr.seen it ,w/ all the signatures and documentation etc/ Wasn't much to look at though..
Even if they made DW 9000 series stands in those days Buddy would have still knocked them over!
