Islamofascism in Iran or Americofascism here, its all the same--government against the people, government allied with powerful internal forces against the people. Oh, by the way, Obama is turning out to be just Bush lite as I expected. Glad my vote went to Ralph Nader.
This is the smartest political statement I've read in a long time. I voted for McCain myself. I didn't like him but I figured him to be the lesser of the 2 evils. I should have voted for Nader.
Just how would you deal with violent protestors/ I experienced a Peaceful protest at the Entrance to the Presideo in San Francisco. Anarcist entered the group and all hell broke loose. Same at the G8 Summit in Seattle a few years back. What your solution?
A lot of those situations are staged to give police a reason to violently disperse the protesters. The same cowardly tactics are also used to discredit smear protesters as violent radicals who want to destroy the country LOL. Check out this video from Canada to see cowardly cops in action getting caught staging "Anarchy"
The so-called violent protests are often very easy to contain. At the RNC in St. Paul in 2008, there was only one march that broke away from the main route and caused some property damage, but it was nowhere near the other protesters and even within this so-called anarchist crowd, there were only a few dozen actually destroying things. But the police didn't stop once it had been contained. They continued their crackdown for the rest of the week against ALL protesters (continued)...
Watch the movie "Terrorizing Dissent" and you'll see what I mean. It's here on youtube and you can watch it for free. People were pulled out of peaceful rallies and charged with felonies when they had committed no crime. Entire crowds were rounded up, many of them that weren't even protesting, held against their will, and then arrested, the police making up the charges on the spot. A few window breakers on a different day from a different crowd doesn't justify the police stomping on democracy.
Demohracy? fif i read right? that started dying since the ceation of th FED now its Plutogracy i hate to admitte it but its the terrible truth in many countries
Police beating up women? Yes, many times. Police killing innocent people in the U.S.? Yes, many times. That doesn't mean 90% of our police aren't good people. But the deaths do need to be covered more extensively.
How can you compare Iran to what we have? I have been there many times. Do you live in fear after making this video? Wondering if your IP may be tracked? We may have a false sense of freedom here but it is nothing in comparison to the mulla regime in Iran.
I was making a comment about our media. I'm not saying the US's suppression is equal to Iran's. However, yes, some people have been arrested for simply having on tee-shirts with Arabic or donating to a Muslim charity. So while America is much freer than Iran, people do get sent to "black sites" for little or no reason.
Yes that is true, I have seen it. Especially at the airports. I do a lot of traveling, many times with Arab business partners who are constantly harassed. America government is so paranoid now it is scary. Soon we will not be able to posses guns.
this looks awful. How many of these innocent protesters did the US police torture and kill?
It is estimated that there could be over 50 dead protesters in Iran and there are over 500 missing youth, parents have been told to ask for their children in a month.
I'll bet the evil americans killed 100 protesters and kept 5,000 in prison for 10 months! Americans have no freedom. They cannot use the web, vote, wear what they want or practice their own religion. Iran allows all these freedoms.
Your sarcasm is adorable, jjmcoates, but evils don't have to be equivalent to be worthy of reporting. According to your logic - since the genocide in Sudan doesn't equal the numbers killed by Hitler, the media should never speak of Sudan. Maybe my point wasn't that the USA is less free than Iran but rather that our media should mention when our own nameless, faceless riot cops abuse our rights. It's okay you didn't catch that. It was a really confusing video. (wow, you're right, sarcasm is fun)
Love your stuff Lee, wish you'd writer more of it for the Huffington Post! Luckily when you're not there I still get your brilliant topical humor here.
What are you equating what is happening in Iran with?
Where were these pictures taken and for what? How many people died? How many were arrested. Was this real or an exercise? Were the police responding to a riot, a protest, violence, peaceful demonstration, no reason, what...?
Do you think it matters?
Sorry to ask quesions, I know you people don't like that. Go ahead... mark me thumbs down.
I've heard rumors that there was a girl killed by a rubber bullet at the RNC. The story didn't make the news because her parents didn't want her to become a martyr. There was also a kid who was tortured by police while being held in the Ramsey County Jail. His name is Eilliot Huges. Enter his name in the youtube search bar if you want to hear his testimony of how he was treated by the freedom loving Ramsey County Detention Officers.
Good job Lee, I was in Seattle and watched a movie about the WTC meeting and ensuing riots. The cops took little girls who were blocking a sidewalk and put teargas that was in a bottle under their eyes with Q-Tips, they faced no charges even though the girls were on a street that was not in the way. They did it, to do it! That's America baby, freedom and to torture!
yes! I love how everyone is saying that the Iranian election is a sham ...and how the media is backing that up. Why didn't the media back up those who said the Bush/Gore election was a sham? Wow!
(Shamwow...you know those Germans make good stuff.)
Yeah, I'm a little surprised about the cops going this far for even American protests! The media doesn't probably show that much, since the gov't may just block photos, stories, etc. from the people, but this all gives me another good reason as to why it's still not a good idea to protest about ANYTHING in the U.S. It may be a given freedom, but you can still get arrested!

I guess we should be thankful that the police don't use live rounds of ammunition on protestors.
Unarmed minorities, yes, but protestors they just beat and unlawfully arrest.

You're right Angel, every conceivable question should be answered in a one-minute video. Let me run get all the cops' names and addresses.
And since you asked - most of the photos, though not all, are from the 2008 Republican & Democratic National Conventions.
