you know what? at first glance, i thought the ribbon sucked... then i looked further. a windows 7 document folder compared to this one actually takes up more space. i have no idea how or why, but it just does. as a plus lets say you have 24 files in your folder, w7 shows 22, w8 shows 25, in one page.
anyways, i think its pretty cool...and if you dont want it.... alt+1 or something gets rid of it...
also, the file directory copy paste will be sooo helpful!
Nooooo!!! No ribbons! Just taking up space. Explorer in Win7 is the worst explorer since windows 3. It's so annoying and full with bugs, that you have to install a bunch of addons to be able to use it (or use a complete alternative). Ribbons, the last thing that could make explorer worse.
And "Copy path" as a feature?! You serious? After 15 years of it being avaiable as a simple addon you finally get it that it's useful? Wow! That's innovation speed.
Now with cut and paste!! Seriously why microsoft have that obsession in ocult the existence of a filesystem in Win Vista / 7? I don`t want to pay for another edition only for fix the Microsoft mistakes. Microsoft thinks all users are 10 years olds, moms and facebook users.
First of all thanks for sharing, then, if I- may, I'd like to make a small request, 'cause there's a thing in explorer for 7 that i really find annoying:
I like to look at all my files with the detailed view, but whenever i select "apply to all windows", 7 simply ignores my commands and keeps on using different styles for folders with different contents.
What i'd really like to find in the new explorer 8 is the ability to apply one view to *all* folders, no exceptions.
Yes, win7 explorer is totally broke, except if you are someone who wants to look at the pictures of the last vacation. If you have to actually do work with a computer (e. g. as programmer) it's totally useless. Try to find text in files with varying file extensions (like log files) with explorer search. If you haven't defined somewhere that a file is of type "text" explorer search wont search it. You have to install other programs to give you a basic feature of decent OS...
looks like this dude's got no idea what he's talking about. UX has at least SOMETHING to do with minimalism, reduced interface and not an overblow of needless options and questions. but what's buggin me most: how did my photo from amsterdam go onto this guy's computer??
Well it basically looks like office has been imported into explorer. I don't see it as a bad thing, but more importantly with pictures shouldn't an editing feature be included in this section. Even a simple acdsee style editor? Any feature that helps users with short cuts is awesome. Keep up the good work doodz!

This looks great. Definitely excited about the 3rd party applications using this, such as Dropbox.

@MicroHive Have you read the blog, Microsoft are stupid and decided that no third party applications can extend upon the ribbon control.
