We need to show Microsoft, Nintendo, and Activision how bad we really want this game on the Xbox Live Arcade or whereever they can make this game available. Nintendo did publish the game but they didn't develop it, Rareware did. Activision has absolutely nothing to do with the original version of this game. If Activision really had the respect for this game to make a reimaged version of the game then they should have the same respect into letting Microsoft make this updated version available.
Okay, this is a really dumb question. I know the story behind this being canceled with Nintendo and all that, but is there even the slighest chance this game could come back again, in like, later 2012 when Wii U comes out? They could put this game on Xbox 360 and Wii U with the same graphics and everything, could it happen? I am also aware of Goldeneye Reloaded with Daniel Craig, got that game for Wii and it was decent, but no Goldeneye 64. So could it come back? Goldeneye 64 Remake?
@derekis007 The reason it's not on the XBLA or Virtual Console in the first place is because of the Xbox's advantage. Even if the Wii U is capable of having this on there, Microsoft won't let Rare develop for Nintendo.

i hope this game will never see a release on the xbox. after what they did to perfect dark zero and banjo-kazooie, i will never trust microsoft with another series again. some might say that goldeneye wii ruined the original's glory but i see it as a completely different product that is also great. it breaks away from all the other FPS's and delivers things from the original and adds their own ideas.

Although Perfect Dark is a much better game from a technical standpoint and did indeed further evolve the first-person shooter genre, I happen to prefer Goldeneye 007 over Perfect Dark. I just seem to have more fun playing Goldeneye than Perfect Dark, sure it might be nostalgia playing a role in my preference but given the choice between the two I'll take Goldeneye over Perfect Dark any day.

There are still some charms which can't be replicated by PD:
-The missions, memorable on their own.
-The weapon set; rarely can any other game match the diversity and awesomeness GE's weapons. PD's weapons are of a largely sci-fi nature. Though cool, this leads to my next point.
-The game's general setting - Bond license or not, the game's modern timeline and varied locations blended well with the mission based gameplay and shooting style.

I dont think this at all is running on a 360. The weapon he's holding was the beta version of it. Also the textures (along with everything else) is in low definition. This is probably the n64 beta rom of the original game, running on a computer.

I have absolutely no desire to go back and play Goldeneye again, and probably wouldn't have bought the remake even if it had been released. It's vaguely nostalgic but it's extremely primitive and very little fun by today's standards.
@UK31337 Eh, I'd definitely buy it for the campaign and cheats alone. Plus I could finally retire my N64 then. Online multi kind of failed for PD XBLA but that wasn't a big factor for me. I just love turning on the cheats in missions and playing them my own way. :P
@Shadowz41 That's what I keep trying to explain to people. Goldeneye definitely has that awesome nostalgia factor as well as a huge history and community of hackers. Perfect Dark was overall a much better game and Rare thinks so too.

It seems from the marketing that Activision's "remake" is just trying rehash Rare's classic and evolve it into modern gaming. I'm sure it will be a great game, but I think it's going to heavily disappoint GE007 fans looking for a proper rerelease of their baby.
@thegman1234 Rare's GE007 fans are already severely disappointed. We just want the N64 version ported over to XBLA with the updated graphics. Perfect Dark XBLA is as close as we're going to get with the classic GE weapons. Still, I'd like my Phantom machine gun back. :P

hey today i found out that Perfect Dark 64 will be out on release on xbox live arcade in march 2010! It great news since we were all denied Goldeneye 007 on live but get this instead since Perfect Dark is alot like goldeneye anyways.
Perfect Dark is honestly the next best thing we can get from Rare regarding GE007. It's superior in every way though GE007 has more nostalgia going for it.
I'm hoping if it sells well enough perhaps MS and Nintendo will come back to the negotiating table and finally greenlight it to be released. GE007XBLA was finished to the point PD XBLA is at now, they were that close to getting it out the door.
I believe Nintendo had some licenses on the game. I'm not sure what. What'd crazy is MS, EA, and Nintendo of America were onboard with this idea. It was Nintendo of Japan that turned this down.
What I don't understand is why Nintendo of America couldn't have had the final say. If they did we would've been playing this two years ago.

If you look closely at the characters it seems like they have a higher poly count and more detailed textures. Also if you pause at the right moment around 0:27 the scientist's hand looks like it has an individual thumb and fingers, unlike the original game where hands were made of a single block.

@hecrpd Perfect Dark was made by RARE. Goldeneye was made by RARE. Perfect Dark was quite thesame, but more. More guns, sci-fi action. IMO it weren't a real ripoff since companies usually -copy their own stuff-.

@Shadowz41 I agree. I've got the XBLA Perfect Dark remake and it's currently all I'm playing, and same went for the N64 version too.
I have absolutely no desire to go back and play Goldeneye again, and probably wouldn't have bought the remake even if it had been released. It's vaguely nostalgic but it's extremely primitive and very little fun by today's standards.

@UK31337 Eh, I'd definitely buy it for the campaign and cheats alone. Plus I could finally retire my N64 then. Online multi kind of failed for PD XBLA but that wasn't a big factor for me. I just love turning on the cheats in missions and playing them my own way. :P

@Shadowz41 That's what I keep trying to explain to people. Goldeneye definitely has that awesome nostalgia factor as well as a huge history and community of hackers. Perfect Dark was overall a much better game and Rare thinks so too.

@Shadowz41 Yeah, just another game that's trying to make money off of the name Goldeneye. Honestly, as a James Bond film fan, I always wanted to see another Goldeneye game that followed the film a little bit better, but that's just me.
It seems from the marketing that Activision's "remake" is just trying rehash Rare's classic and evolve it into modern gaming. I'm sure it will be a great game, but I think it's going to heavily disappoint GE007 fans looking for a proper rerelease of their baby.

@thegman1234 Rare's GE007 fans are already severely disappointed. We just want the N64 version ported over to XBLA with the updated graphics. Perfect Dark XBLA is as close as we're going to get with the classic GE weapons. Still, I'd like my Phantom machine gun back. :P

incorrect, ms made a deal with nintendo to have both on arcade and vc, nintendo didn't agree with it and activision actually liked the deal, nintendo of america was all for it but japan division said no, or it was the other way around, and so nintendo overall said no, activision called nintendo immature and it's actually indeed nintendo's doing. The "activision owns the rights their fault" is just a theory, they have the liscense, thats not the point, all three own rights

hey today i found out that Perfect Dark 64 will be out on release on xbox live arcade in march 2010! It great news since we were all denied Goldeneye 007 on live but get this instead since Perfect Dark is alot like goldeneye anyways.

Perfect Dark is honestly the next best thing we can get from Rare regarding GE007. It's superior in every way though GE007 has more nostalgia going for it.
I'm hoping if it sells well enough perhaps MS and Nintendo will come back to the negotiating table and finally greenlight it to be released. GE007XBLA was finished to the point PD XBLA is at now, they were that close to getting it out the door.

I believe Nintendo had some licenses on the game. I'm not sure what. What'd crazy is MS, EA, and Nintendo of America were onboard with this idea. It was Nintendo of Japan that turned this down.
What I don't understand is why Nintendo of America couldn't have had the final say. If they did we would've been playing this two years ago.

If you look closely at the characters it seems like they have a higher poly count and more detailed textures. Also if you pause at the right moment around 0:27 the scientist's hand looks like it has an individual thumb and fingers, unlike the original game where hands were made of a single block.
