People have no patience these days, they want everything now, with special effects and explosions. They want all the flash and no substance. Well, here is a perfect example were you don't need special effects to tell a Sci/fi story, it was so alien and different and in the end verging on brilliant. Yes, there were rough parts but by the end I was totally engaged. I am so tired with all the fluff on tv these days, well I guess I still have books at least they can't be cancelled.

Seriously wtf, i keep discovering how many original shows are otuhere that didnt last for 10 episodes when there is sooooo much unoriginal shit around.
@au25 the reason why lost was good, was because it was well structured and there was real tension to be felt...at least to season 3 (didn't watch further). They might not have explained everything, but over the episodes everything came together. Expecially in the cut scenes off the island, where u see characters interact who didn't know each other and who would later be stuck together on an island. Outcasts had no structure what so ever. That's why it sucked.
It was good like defying gravity. Unfortunately sci-fi genre on television is underrated, at present there is no good sci.fi even space adventure on television. There's too many haters and outspoken critics voicing their own opinions as if they were fact.
in my opinion outcasts had a gripping story plot (which had just started to get very interesting) and the characters were well thought out and, although acting was slobby at times, it was good on the whole
i enjoyed it as i know a lot of other people did. Those who disagree can get back to their soap opera crap that the BBC shits out like there's no tomorrow.
@theonlysecretman Outcasts was shit, it had too many flaws. Firstly, it would have been impossible to save everyone on earth, so why these people?most wouldn't pass a psyc eval and why are they all English/American? Secondly, why is re-entry such a problem when the technology exists to travel in space for many years? Then the real problems start, from the stuff they chose to bring with them to the way situations were handled. A ridiculous hostage situation to running around without hasmat suites
@theonlysecretman The pretentious crap of a child reciting Wiliam Blake was irritating enough, but everything was badly thought out.
The transport infra-structure in this country is shit, yet in 30 years massive space-ships have been built and a select few have been selected, this is where the drama is (think of the riots etc), but the UK is unlikely to be the center of it. If you create a program that requires thought, it has to be very good. I could write a better script in a day!
@Sidowse okay im not saying that it didn't have its flaws but from what i can remember (from 3 months ago) it was the first series made by these people, and you can't deny that a lot of people found it enjoyable to watch and were completely hooked by the plot (as i know i was)
This is possibly one of the worst dramas the BBC has ever made. Acting for the most part was poor, with stale dialogue, 1-dimensional characters, and a plot that just seems to drag itself through each episode. Yet, despite this, the series tries to take itself seriously with overused cliché ideas about mankind ruining the Earth amongst other stolen plot devices. But because of its crappy charm, it will most certainly gain a fairly small cult gathering of followers. What a waste of my TV license!
The idea for the show was great, however the execution is below average. There are two main issues that crippled this Sci-fi show within first couple of episodes:
-half of the cast are second rate actors their performance unconvincing and at times amateurish;
- the writing is absolutely dreadful. The reaction of characters to events is unrealistic and irrational. The narrative is choppy at best. The issues that main characters face seem extremely artificial and not very well thought through.
Why does all BBC drama have to be absolutely identical?
It's always the same actors, the same clunky expositional dialogue, the same theme music, the same credit animation, it's just bland identikit rubbish.
Why not experiment with NEW writers, NEW actors or NEW ideas?
The BBC used to lead the world in drama, it's not going to get there again with programmes like "Moon Base Holby".
Still, at least it didn't have Julie Graham in it and that's some small consolation I suppose.
I haven't looked up anything about it because i've been trying to purge it from my memory, can't believe that crap is coming back and this has been cancelled.
Its great to know the BBC take our money to provide thought provoking shows that appeal to niche audiences, they don't need to appeal to big business or shareholders as of the legal requirement to buy a TV licence means we get quality shows from the BBC, inform educate and entertain. oh wait... they cancelled it and use our money for more reality garbage like world's strictest parents eh
Thats not about ratings, I believe. TV licence payment is fixed until 2017, BBC anounces needs to cut the budgets, cancelling pricy "sci-fi in space" seems to be logical. It was not the greatest show, but definetely good one. Thanks all the crew for the work they did. The show was not too entertaing, but the good scifi is not about entertaining - it is about perfect place for Your own imagination.
Seriously, this was actually a series I enjoyed watching and the BBC cancelled it because it didn't get 1 billion + viewers. It wouldn't be so shameful if they didn't leave a cliffhanger at the end of the first series, but its just bad taste to give people something to look forward to, and then not do it! Pisses me off.
@woodwyrm nope, unless Ben Richard (the creator) manages to pursuade a broadcaster to bring it back, although I have heard he is considering writing a series of novels to carry the stories on...
It seems the BBC are just catering to the dumb part of the market who can't look at the TV for five minutes unless someone say's penis or swears. Good shows are getting tossed out so that they can bring in a new stupid one, oh and i almost forgot "with Celebrities"! And mark my words if this is the way Sci fi is going on the BBC good old Doctor Who won't be far behind!
I feel cheated. I want my money back! What's the point in paying your TV lisnece to see a great show if the BBC are just going to cut it off after one series leaving it on a cliffhanger! It's like going to the cinema, paying your money and only seeing half of a moviE! All of you who are subscribed the the BBC channel, check your subscriptions box and see all those programs like Snog, Marry or Avoid and stuff like that because that's the only thing that seems to survive the BBC's axing!
Anybody feel this was kind of The Martian Chronicles meets Forbidden Planet.........in a good way though :)
Shame about the finale......... what a let down that the 2nd series has been axed......this had all the makings of a decent sci-fi yarn and a change to the usual crappy programmes the BBC constantly churns out like reality TV and cookery shows.......!
just like to say, watched all 8 episodes and thought it was dog shit. Jack Holt was perhaps the most one sides macho cliche in tv history. blah blah blah, where was the originality. Trying to be a serious sci fi series yet so many plot holes. what a joke
Listen to the voice of the guy up in the spaceship that Berger is communicating with in episode 8 (at 41 minutes).... sounds EXACTLY like Bill Bailey :-) Made me chuckle that did.
I can't believe that the BBC have axed this show, the story and build up were very well executed and the end of episode 8 was timed to cinematic perfection. The so called Programmers/Managers at the Beeb should be ashamed of themselves, letting down the public and the crew and cast of this show. Why didnt they simply schedule it onto BBC 2, it worked for Torchwood and the X-Files when it was first run and it didnt do them any harm at all, very short sighted, I wonder why I pay my TV License....
I'm finished with the BBC now. A few years ago I started watching Survivors, I got to like the the story. I was looking forward to watching it..3.2.1.CANCELLED. Then I started watching a series called Bonekickers. I liked it, I started to like some of the characters, got to like the story lines..3.2.1.CANCELLED. The I started watching Paradox. I liked it, started liking the characters.3.2.1.CANCELLED. Will I watch the *next* new BBC series? why bother it will be 3.2.1 CANCELLED.
1. Too serious. Too slow-paced. Maybe even too realistic. 2. Every episode felt like nothing more than a build-up to the last. The 'climax' within each wasn't strong enough. 3. Nowhere near enough in the way of special effects.
If a second series is ever comissioned, they should rope in a former member of the Star Trek Voyager cast. Most of them are desperate for work, and it would make me watch

This was a radical show that rattled a few orthodox cages i expect being often brimming with conscientious challenges to contemporary folly and thinking. Destined to become a cult classic, but the general public weren't ready for it and the critics were either defensive or it clearly went over their heads. There will probably be a continuation or revisit in about 20 yrs from now. Meanwhile for some of us at least, the characters are unforgetable and the universe seems a richer place somehow.
Shame it was cancelled. To all those complaining about a lack of serious BBC shows, I definitely feel it's a crime that it was so underrated, but, there are lots of books and films on the same level as this...
It's such a shame that this won't be getting a new series, but I saw an idea someone posted on another website which I really like. The idea is that instead of letting this interesting and now fleshed out universe going to rot, the creator (Ben Richards) should commission a sci-fi novel to answer all the questions left at the cliffhanger filled ending. I like the idea. What do you think?
I acctually just cried on finding out this has been cancelled and with such a crap ending! Atleast now I can make up an ending- Fleur come back with the ACs and they expand Fort Haven and all live there together. Then Fleur and Cass get married and live happily ever after. Lilly moves in with Stella and they also live happily ever after. The other transporter decides it does not like the look of carpathia and goes home but Julius decides he will turn good and stays to help in Fort Haven. The End
@Ionarubberducky You have just made up a crap ending... The Outcasts ending was fantastic, a great set up for a second series yet it goes unappreciated by the retards in our own British public who cannot quite grasp the concepts put forwards by this fantastic show.
@Ionarubberducky No need, you'll be busy and in demand, besides i shall recognise you. The characters of Outcasts shall endure in treasured memory, and you'll be the candidate that reminds us of its noble leader: "..My name is Richard Tate, president of Carpathia, as human as you are... Reconciliation is my middle name. I'll always go the extra mile to find some common ground...' . We can't miss the passing of anything that becomes a poignant part of us: It compels us to our own sequels. :)
@intermender Thats me, a true Richard Tate. I'll create a new party called 'Outcasts', ooh and i'll have hermione Norris as my deputy priminister and the rest of the cast too :D
I can see this ending up going down the same path of Survivors, a great show that ends up being cancelled because of low ratings.
I really enjoy this show, the character development is great, the idea is great, Liam Cunningham is definately one of the best actors around but still people cannot appreciate a well-constructed modern sci-fi show on BBC that ISN'T DW or Torchwood.
Amg this is sooooo OP. First The Walking Dead now Outcasts... Gogo Britain and BBC. A huge bow to u all! Absolutely awesome series! I can't sleep dudes, i cant's stop thinking about the Alchemist thingy and goddamn revolutions! o.0 I'm going insane!
@llelo55 i hope so its a good show just a shame that people cant appreciate it more they are simpletons who think sci fi can only mean huge spaceship battles with lasers and explosions
The problem is its just too slow and too miserable I wanna see alian vs human wars and alian relationships and a visit to the edge of the universe. Not some people apparently set in the future wearing 20th century clothing, with orange weapons, in concrete buildings, with vinyl? Its looks like the Sci Fi version of the nativity.
@Roble30ttt And you're what, 12? This isn't a show about huge intergalactic wars and alien relationships, it's about humanity's struggle for survival in the future as a result of modern day failures. It's about humanity struggling to lift out of the darkness and second chances.
@ajw34307 It just comes across as some random city in the wilderness like Survivers was but without anything interesting to see or any sense of happyiness or fun. Its like Silent Hill mixed with Star Trek without the monsters. Its like watching a dramtization of Big Brother. Just people sat in emtyness thinking about how empty their life is wundering what sort of strange thing they can do next or what kind of conflict they can cause. Then when they do its like Oh no that was bad nevermind.
Just seen this trailer in a forum, but ive never heard of it - could someone explain me the plot? The trailer looks awesome, i really like scifi and drama
@Skaldicgoth Humanity have evacuated Earth after it was presumably destroyed. We discovered a planet in a Goldilocks Zone named Carpathia, the show is about humanity getting a second chance to rebuilt society on a world that doesn't want them there whilst also facing internal problems as the leadership falls apart. It's a fantastic show.
This is taking it's cue from the new Battlestar Galactica, minus the cool space battle thing. Judging by episode 6, I reckon it could improve dramatically given the chance of a second series.
The premise is great and it seems realistic enough and well acted but it doesn't seem to work (much like the society it depicts!). The characters are too bland maybe, and the sci-fi element is too underplayed, so its kind of disappointing for sci-fi buffs. Hell, they haven't even explained where Carpathia is yet? Which star system, how far? And how have they achieved interstellar travel? Also, I get the feeling the explanation for these 'doubles' is going to be mighty poor.
Nothing to do with reality. For the survival colony torn a need healthy men and women with big bottoms. This is reality. Show this is not removed. Skinny actress looks good, but where the colony can find drugs to like it. And judging by her pupils her psychotropic medications are needed. Although if you're not an Arab, a northerner, you'll love these girls. Unusual eyes. Ha, ha.
I real like this show it's really intresting and it's relistic and doesn't have stuiped lasers or ships that can fly across the galaxy in seconds. It is by far the best sci fi tv show brits have ever made and theres no american crap in it and I am glad. I also want to find out what happened on earth and why they left maybe they will do I whole esipode about all the chacharters backgrounds, and is it true they are cancelling it because I like this better then doctor who or merlin.
Just a brain spin here... So they are 5 (years travel) from earth... the planet they are on supports life. With lightspeed travel etc it would be pretty cool if carpathia turned out to be future earth. I mean, it has the same breathable atmosphere, same types of small animals such as horseflies etc, dead homanids.....and has high nuclear radiation (from the possible nuclear war-WW3) I know it wont be this, would just be a cool twist.
this shows just started to show its promise. sadly, due to penny counters at bbc we will never get to see what happens. what everybodys background stories are that have only been hinted at etc. it makes you wary of watching a new show like this if its never gonna pay off fully.
@petujaymz He sorta looks like a baby with facial hair, especially when he cries. I first thought he was the future version of that baby Fleur brought back lol
This is one show i have become big style addicted to, finally a really decent brit sci fi show, a big thumbs up to the people who have given this show a chance. Thankyou.
Sad,Poignant,Intelligent, this series is one word.....Awesome! more please BBC and Doctor Who isnt shite its just over glorified... remember it too was cancelled until 2005!
its sad really, its got good potential, thing is its a step down from the 'over idealistic, perfect looking' american dramas of today... its good at its heart, and sure, the writing isnt the best but is enjoyable and gets FARRR too much shit, aim all that at like Dr Who or some other shit thats just pure ridiculous, silly and messy sci fi. Honestly if people find that engaging, then you're just immature, its a joke really...
Well I am always willing to give a tv series or a movie a go before I decide upon an accurate level of interest or not. I am however pretty upset with BBC at the moment for canceling Survivors. Now that show was brilliant and they need to it bring it back and end it in the right manner!
It's so frustrating to see what is happening to this show. Serious adult sci-fi drama doesn't seem to be able to complete these days with popcorn garbage like Dr Who and the like. What a sad nation of philistines we have become.
@01000001011100100111 this series doen't have much of a sci-fi element to it.just people trying to kill eachother, dont we get enough of that every weekend when the news reports another teenager stabbed to death in london or manchester....
for the people who want to know, the song is called Spanish Sahara by Foals

in my opinion outcasts had a gripping story plot (which had just started to get very interesting) and the characters were well thought out and, although acting was slobby at times, it was good on the whole
i enjoyed it as i know a lot of other people did. Those who disagree can get back to their soap opera crap that the BBC shits out like there's no tomorrow.
theonlysecretman 9 months ago 13
@theonlysecretman Outcasts was shit, it had too many flaws. Firstly, it would have been impossible to save everyone on earth, so why these people?most wouldn't pass a psyc eval and why are they all English/American? Secondly, why is re-entry such a problem when the technology exists to travel in space for many years? Then the real problems start, from the stuff they chose to bring with them to the way situations were handled. A ridiculous hostage situation to running around without hasmat suites
Sidowse 6 months ago
@theonlysecretman The pretentious crap of a child reciting Wiliam Blake was irritating enough, but everything was badly thought out.
The transport infra-structure in this country is shit, yet in 30 years massive space-ships have been built and a select few have been selected, this is where the drama is (think of the riots etc), but the UK is unlikely to be the center of it. If you create a program that requires thought, it has to be very good. I could write a better script in a day!
Sidowse 6 months ago
@Sidowse okay im not saying that it didn't have its flaws but from what i can remember (from 3 months ago) it was the first series made by these people, and you can't deny that a lot of people found it enjoyable to watch and were completely hooked by the plot (as i know i was)

krzysiekd22 9 months ago

-half of the cast are second rate actors their performance unconvincing and at times amateurish;
- the writing is absolutely dreadful. The reaction of characters to events is unrealistic and irrational. The narrative is choppy at best. The issues that main characters face seem extremely artificial and not very well thought through.
TheStanislavlem 10 months ago 2
@TheStanislavlem i totally disagree i thought they choose great actors for the parts and that the writing was great too
blueipodgal94 10 months ago
Why does all BBC drama have to be absolutely identical?
It's always the same actors, the same clunky expositional dialogue, the same theme music, the same credit animation, it's just bland identikit rubbish.
Why not experiment with NEW writers, NEW actors or NEW ideas?
The BBC used to lead the world in drama, it's not going to get there again with programmes like "Moon Base Holby".
Still, at least it didn't have Julie Graham in it and that's some small consolation I suppose.

It seems the BBC are just catering to the dumb part of the market who can't look at the TV for five minutes unless someone say's penis or swears. Good shows are getting tossed out so that they can bring in a new stupid one, oh and i almost forgot "with Celebrities"! And mark my words if this is the way Sci fi is going on the BBC good old Doctor Who won't be far behind!
legodarknight101 11 months ago
I feel cheated. I want my money back! What's the point in paying your TV lisnece to see a great show if the BBC are just going to cut it off after one series leaving it on a cliffhanger! It's like going to the cinema, paying your money and only seeing half of a moviE! All of you who are subscribed the the BBC channel, check your subscriptions box and see all those programs like Snog, Marry or Avoid and stuff like that because that's the only thing that seems to survive the BBC's axing!
legodarknight101 11 months ago
Not a lot of people know about this show. It needs a chance to grow. Its awesome. It should have at least have one more season - and a proper ending.

Shame about the finale......... what a let down that the 2nd series has been axed......this had all the makings of a decent sci-fi yarn and a change to the usual crappy programmes the BBC constantly churns out like reality TV and cookery shows.......!

MrNayl0r 11 months ago
I acctually just cried on finding out this has been cancelled and with such a crap ending! Atleast now I can make up an ending- Fleur come back with the ACs and they expand Fort Haven and all live there together. Then Fleur and Cass get married and live happily ever after. Lilly moves in with Stella and they also live happily ever after. The other transporter decides it does not like the look of carpathia and goes home but Julius decides he will turn good and stays to help in Fort Haven. The End
Ionarubberducky 11 months ago
@Ionarubberducky You have just made up a crap ending... The Outcasts ending was fantastic, a great set up for a second series yet it goes unappreciated by the retards in our own British public who cannot quite grasp the concepts put forwards by this fantastic show.

Roble30ttt 11 months ago
@Roble30ttt And you're what, 12? This isn't a show about huge intergalactic wars and alien relationships, it's about humanity's struggle for survival in the future as a result of modern day failures. It's about humanity struggling to lift out of the darkness and second chances.
This show clearly isn't for you.
ajw34307 11 months ago
@ajw34307 It just comes across as some random city in the wilderness like Survivers was but without anything interesting to see or any sense of happyiness or fun. Its like Silent Hill mixed with Star Trek without the monsters. Its like watching a dramtization of Big Brother. Just people sat in emtyness thinking about how empty their life is wundering what sort of strange thing they can do next or what kind of conflict they can cause. Then when they do its like Oh no that was bad nevermind.

It's a fantastic show.
ajw34307 11 months ago
This is taking it's cue from the new Battlestar Galactica, minus the cool space battle thing. Judging by episode 6, I reckon it could improve dramatically given the chance of a second series.
Its not brilliant, but the potential is there.

excellent British TV series, British tale best.
Biogem369 1 year ago
The premise is great and it seems realistic enough and well acted but it doesn't seem to work (much like the society it depicts!). The characters are too bland maybe, and the sci-fi element is too underplayed, so its kind of disappointing for sci-fi buffs. Hell, they haven't even explained where Carpathia is yet? Which star system, how far? And how have they achieved interstellar travel? Also, I get the feeling the explanation for these 'doubles' is going to be mighty poor.
