  • Thank you very much for this video and recepie of pupusas and curtido. I'm not Latina, but my husband 's family comes from El Salvador. One day I was reserching the information about El Salvador and found out that November 13 is Natioanal Pupusa Day in El Salvador. So I'm going to cook some. I took a day off at work on November 13 :)

    PS: I have a question about pupusas with cheese. What kind of cheese is usually used? Thank you :)

  • thank you so much for making this and the recipe, i've never made them, we're salvadoran but my mom doesn't really cook. I just have a question, is it white cheddar that she uses. and with the meat is it ok to chop it up in a food processor? thanks, also what other kind of cheese would be good for this? thanks

    Hi,

    She used medium sharp cheddar and the yellow one, but I don't think the color matters. And about the meat ( I think you are talking about when it is already cooked) I guess it'll be fine to use the food processor. However it is pretty easy and fast to do it with your hands. I hope you are motivated enough to try to make the pupusas. Once cooked, they freeze well. All you have to do is put them in the microwave and they'll be like just done. Enjoy!!!

  • i like the oil on my pupusa.. it makes it tastier and juicier. there's a local lady that lives by me that makes the best pupusas i've ever had. i love pupusas.

  • when my family cooks this we put the meat in the food processor. then we add the cheese. makes it a bit easier.

  • No soy Salvadorenia pero me gustan las pupusas. Segui las intrucciones y salieron muy ricas, ecepto la ensalada, resulto incomible porque tenia demasiado vinagre, 1 1/2 tazas de vinagre es demasiado, 1/4 de taza es mas que suficiente.

  • I tried to make these about 2hrs ago. Mine turned out nothing like her's- her's turned out so nice and flat! Mine were big, thick things. Will have to work on my technique!

  • @MattyMatt761 well she makes them thin everyone has a different technique to make them i personally like them a bit thicker with a lot of pork filling

  • Also check your local "carneceria " or mexican market. They have 2lb bags of fresh masa already made for $2! It will taste better.

    Also look up revueltas which is beans, pork and cheese pureed together and quesilla & loroco which are little pickled flower buds that are smiliar to ...uh, maybe like a relish.

    You have to try it!

  • Flatten it between a heavy plastic bag (like the ones bread comes in cut open on the sides).

    Roll a ball, squash with coffee cup or large can. Press it flatter by hand, peel it off the plastic & fill it as full as you can & still close it. Pinch off excess masa, ball it up.

    Put it back between the plastic & flatten with the can and mash it flatter by hand this time using the other hand to go around the outside and push the edges back to keep it round and the same thickness everywhere.

  • Why is she adding oil, shit my mom doesn't do that the cheese and meat will release its on oil that shit must be greasy thats why she is that size hahahahahahaha

  • I don't think she added any oil, only vinegar to the meat. The oil is to prevent the masa to stick to your hands. This is a very sweet lady and I enjoyed working with her.
