The answer is quite simple. When one is a right wing, christian sociopath who has amassed millions by wearing their jesus badge in public and being a complete and total fucking scumbag in their private lives, being a hypocrite is quite easy. Also let's not forget Bobby Schindler who now makes a very lucrative living running a tidy little "not for profit" as the weak and desperate bible huggers among us have nothing better to do with their money!
I think this issue has already largely been settled. Frist has already been thought to have been pandering to the religious right with Terri Schiavo. In this case, he simply didn't want to risk his credibility any more than it was already tarnished.
Frist simply declined to comment, I wouldnt want someone telling the whole world about my medical condition. His comment on schiavo's condition was based on his interpretation of the footage he saw. I see no problem with his making that statement, rather with the other senators assuming it has any credibility.
How can you critisize a comment that was never made. He said nothing about Johnson yet you made it seem like he did. I don't like Frist either but lets be fair here.
Frist was a talented MD and many people are (rightfully) grateful for his skills as a transplant surgeon in saving their lives. With that said, it shows just how corrupt a politician can become and how Frist denegrated into a braying, moronic jackass. I think it is a legitimate video showing the hypocracy and destruction of any qualities Dr. Frist had before taking office.
yeah, LV, his johnson silence is all about a pack of media there because johnson's condition is hugely important to both parties, and frist doesn't want to be seen as attempting to spin anything. Looking at the Schiavo question narrowly, her condition was somewhat "ambiguous," i.e., her appearance and responses could be mistaken, particularly by people who don't understand how the brain produces behavior.
Becaaaaause...it's all political? Because this guy couldn't diagnose a train wreck standing next to the tracks? Because he couldn't tell a conscious, recovering patient from a head of cabbage? I, You Tube, declare it to be so.
Probably because in the first case his political/dr. diagnosis helped cost him his job and made people hold him up as an example of what is wrong with the GOP. Maybe there is some hope for the GOP learning what complete jack asses they've been and trying a more moderate 'reality based' approach to govt?
Youre right. Its a lot easier to tell in person if someone is conscious after surgery than it is to tell by video if someone is vegetative or responsive.
But, for those that missed it, I fault Frist for his Schiavo comment NOT his Johnson silence
Wow this turned into a shiavo debate quick! Uhmm...honestly, i don't find it that big of a deal. Maybe he was requested by the family not to talk to the media at all. I really don't smell anything foul here
I think we all know why Frist could magically decide terri was alive, but is unable to discuss Senator John's condition. Rush Limbaugh and Karla Rove haven't told Frist what to say yet!
I wish I could conclude that he has learned his lesson, and will keep his mouth shut. We do not need his medical prognoses for particular cases, no matter how ineptly rendered, interjected into the political debate.
Alas, it's all too clear Dr. Frist will say anything for political gain, and likewise, only political gain will shut him up.
While I agree that Frist has no business commenting on the Schiavo case, the reason people make 'no comment' is so that you can't actually allege anything on him. You have no foundation for a logical case against Frist in the events of Sen Johnson. Frist didn't comment because he simply didn't want to comment; maybe (I doubt it, because he's a tool) he learned from the Shiavo thing to shut his pie-hole.
nobody wanted her murdered. all the doctors said that her condition would not improove and her spouce, after many months of trying to help her said it was she would not want to remain a vegetable.
MURDER? Right after the GOP put their face in the hospital, I went out and got a living will and power of attorney, to make sure someone could "murder" me if that ever happened! Remember when GOP meant LESS government? You know,BEFORE BUSH?
Please spell out those 'differences'; many of us who regard self-determination and respect the law have been waiting a LONG time for any SERIOUS argument from yr side. PLEASE LET'S HEAR ONE.
[A serious arg spells out claims, answers objections, listens to the opposing side, avoids rhetoric [let alone abuse].
Pls, let's hear it: what have you got?
Pls avoid claims of 'obvious'ness; they don't survive a simple "how so?"
Doctors had already confirmed that Terri Schiavo would not recover, or at least that her chances were so small that they weren't significant. Sen. Johnson, on the other hand, was still alive and had a good shot at surviving, which he did. The only issue in the Terri Schiavo case that had any ground whatsoever in court was whether under Florida law. I'm going to refrain from commenting on that.

Comparing someone with some loss of brain function to someone with a functionally dead brain, that is working at an autonomic level is beyond stupid.

Well geeee, let me see. Maybe the family asked him not to comment? I wouldn't want the public to know my business if I was sick.
Are you really this ignorant or is this a joke of some kine?

Yeh I remember the Daily Show tearing him up over his statements and premature "diagnosis".
Frist is really just an attention whore (sorry if thats a little vulgar).

I had a dream he was dressed as a Fox for Halloween in England.
Cheney shot him on a Fox Hunt and Queenie Liz II snapped his neck.
Aren't we expecting any shooting stars soon?

Frist is a MagikMan: can diagnose at ANY distance.
Surely it's just his discretion and good taste that prevent his answering the question whether his colleague is awake.
May the gods grant we've seen the last of this dreadful, indeed horrible person.
