  • Thank you, thank you, thank you for helping the rest of us rookies! Very helpful!

  • What a terrific idea!! Too many people get frustrated diving right in, especially the beginners. I'm about to start my 10th layout, this one N scale, and like yours, sectional not modular.

You're spot on about 'extruded' styrofoam. Ask for it by name - the white Bally crap sucks for our purposes!

Experience still doesn't make perfection! I look forward to watching your series, and learning something new!! :-)

  • Fantastic series, great use of words and description. The modular concept and other tips were fantastic. Thanks for taking the time to produce the footage.

  • Jeez, I can't stand people who just LOVE to criticize individuals who post intelligent videos for dummies like me. Thanks for bringing your thoughts "to the table", keeping it simple and thanks for contributing to the fun aspect of model railroading.

  • Thanks for sharing!!!!

  • in the uk we call track connectors fish plates

  • STUIPID BACHMAN EZ TRACK NEVER BUY IT OR OTHER BACHMAN PRODUCTS

  • DO NOT BUY SNAPTRACK it sucks so much and your train bumps all over on the stuff

  • railway not railroad

  • its a good idea to get risers as well

  • which scale model is more easy to use but i can do a lot with the guy at the hobby store said the smaller the model the more work u can do with it

  • I'm gonna make a layout with all ez track.

  • Awsome. I am glad someone stepped up to help new and old hats. Thanks

  • What scale are you using coz i use n

  • by snap track you mean track like Hornby's code 100 track and don't you mean Railway?

  • thanks for posting! the track cupplings are called fish plates in the uk have you tried using chip board or would you reckoment plywood only the chip board is a little heavy and rough but its what i aquired for free so i used it!

  • very good! my layouts are basic and look toyish i have hornby 00 DC at the moment so i'm looking forward to livening it up with hornby scenic pruducts.and learning from your video's you mention the easy track is useless for switches is the cork underlay better for avoiding derailment because my switch points aren;t very good i can;t tell if they are faulty or i should use more sturdy even base. and is it worth converting DC into Dcc? as ive started out with DC ive been building up a collection!

  • You could paint your ties a concrete color.

  • How tall are your tables?

  • Good start, thanks for helping others.

  • Flex track is best to use since its east to make track move the way you want and you can cut it down to size where needed!!! A lot of ppl say concert ties are the modern thing, but I haven't seen much of it lol Around where I live seems most of the track is still make up of wooden ties!!! I figures I would do a combination of concert and wood on my layout in the future, probably with concert used in the cities and industrial areas!!! nice video

  • hey great video, im just wondering can you get the flexi track in that other dark colour, and can u connect them?

  • @311William you can get the flex track with wood ties or black ties. You can connect them with rail joiners. I use atlas rail joiners

  • @jlwii2000 ok tanks!

  • @311William - You can even get flex track from Peco with simulated concrete ties (we call them sleepers).

  • Good stuff. Although I've been around model railroading a long time, I appreciate you keeping it simple, step by step, including the basics. Far too many folks lose me when they gloss over the obvious...so thanks for not being that way! Looking forward to the rest of the series.

  • Thank You for having these videos I'm going to try to follow what you say through the entire series I have subscribed to you.

  • My Uncle and I suggest if you want great working turnouts you should go with either Peco or Walthers Shinohara turnouts. We currently have the Peco and they work great. The Shinohara but have not tried it yet, but from what I have read on them they work great also. The Peco are quite expensive though.

  • Thank you for these video's you'll make it easier for me to do my layout although I live in a mobile home with very limited space I have to run DC for now as I cannot afford DCC at this time.I run code 83 track I don't like the easy track not only did I have alot of trouble with it but I wouldn't be able to build a double grade crossing for vehicles as I can with this I plan on runnin a freight and passenger train.I run H.O.Scale trains.

  • Great Idea, Just one thing, Trains are pulled by Locomotives which have engines in them but they are not engines. Cars have engines in them but they are Cars. Planes have engines but they are planes. I don't know why this bugs me, but it does. Lets teach them right! But love your video's

  • i just love ur collection very well

keep forgetting is o or ho ur layout

  • Hey, like the fact that you're making this series. Will help novices like myself to take the right steps towards building a good layout.

  • Hey whats up dawg! How was the move? Fun or hectic? I see you save your boxes. I do not. I threw out so many because it takes up so much room. I will have a hell of a time trying to find a box for the item I had in it. I do have three bags of boxes from back in the day when I USED to save them. Well enjoy the new hood. :)

  • @MonsterRailroad Hey man the move was hectic as hell. Even with movers doing everything we still had to unpack all the stuff and get rid of a bunch of boxes. Anyway, yeah I keep my boxes but I still have 4 or 5 moving boxes full of train boxes with rolling stock and engines I haven't unpacked yet. I think I'll keep them in the moving boxes so they're not all over the basement because half of them are half hanging off the shelves as you see behind me. Keep in touch dude!

  • Thank you for posting.I also have made mistakes myself that cost lots of time and money.Watching videos and learning personally has helped a lot. Thanks again!

  • Hello . New house new train room how big is the room ?

  • nice start video for the novice as someone else mentioned,do you have a track plan? are you going to do all the wiring? look forward to next vid

  • Great video. You are so right - it can be difficult to find someone on the net building up an entire layout from start and still documents it. I have a suggestion, which you proberly already know. remember to have the tracks on your modules cut on each end so that when you have to move again, then it is much easier for you to put them back together. I will try and find some videos from our module layout to send to you. Keep up the good work.

  • cool, i'll be watching. ive been a model rail nut all my life, but never truly took the time to get past the early stages, i'd build benchwork, lay track, and run trains. now, i have a ten year old and he's VERY motivated to join the hobby, so now i have a new excuse to maybe go to the next step. i too have watched alot of ''greatest hobby'' vids, but i'd like to see somrthing different. so i'll be looking forward to detailed roadbed and track laying, ballasting, and scenery vids. thx!

  • Very well done and much needed. Thanks and I'll be watching.

  • Good work keep it going?

  • great great video!!!! thank you... just want to let you know your time taken to make these videos is very much appreciated...

  • Nice will be watching your video series!

  • and i also had a bunch of EZ track switch problems until i switched to code 100

  • nice video!!! i made the same mistake with foam to, your not the only one Lol

  • can you show us your trackplan?

  • Hey man great video!!! Another downside to e-z track is they really jack up the prices because of the road bed attached. It is a black hole of money!

  • great video, im with you i haven't joined a club either as i don't want to do what they want to do, im like you ..do your own thing and you enjoy it more i think..looking forward to seeing your new layout being built and following it on you tube..keep it up ..thanks again

  • Thanks for the great tips!

  • I used the white stuff, it works fine for what i need it to. But what i did do was remove that protective layering because there is no use for it, and the glue does not stick to it very well. I would have bought the extruded form board but apparently it is not available in my most my state/ or at least no where within driving distance. Great video.

  • I'm a beginner so this is a great video.

  • nice nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! im going to view all ur videos to see what i can upgrade mines!!!!! i love all ur videos !!!! and i nevers stopped watching them!!!! keep em coming!

  • @108chicken loving the new series and planing on watching everyone of the videos

  • Did you know that they are now starting to replace the concrete ties with traditional wood ties again due to the concrete not holding up to the load like they were supposed to aand are now breaking and cracking. Just a thought.

  • thanks for the tips bud and great video...looking forward to more

  • I'll be doing the same thing for my layout, so I'll definately be watching this series so I do it right. By the way, my ez track turnouts screw up alot too.

  • looking forward for the other vids.

  • i can't wait for the next installment,

thanks for all your efforts in teaching the newbies,

    keep up the good work

  • hey I have enjoyed your videos and like the stuff you put out there, that said there is another reason not to use the first foam you had, the covering is metal and could possibly creat a short, looking forward to the rest of the series . Keep up the good work.

  • Who is holding the camera?

    Keep it up.
